Kanye West "My Music is Perfect" -- The Beethoven of this lifetime

Where in this topic did anyone even imply something like that?

I didn't even see anyone stating they hated hiphop in this topic.

Personally I don't really mind genre at all when listening to music... my favorite bands of all time are Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica, but I appreciate musical acts as varying as Fleetwood Mac and New Edition.. Kate Bush and my favorite video game composers.
I'll listen to hiphop too if it gels with me.

I just find it funny/interesting how defensive of Kanye West I see people get on forums sometimes, like in this topic when someone suggested he isn't much different from other top 40 acts like Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber.

Maybe some of his albums are really good... I haven't really listened to his stuff... but I have of course heard "Niggas in Paris" (dreadful) and to a lesser extent "All of the Lights", and when I listen to that I don't get the feeling I'm listening to something profoundly different from all the other top 40 acts.

he's not a singles artist, really. if you listen to his albums and don't like them, fine, but just know that he made his name with albums like the College Dropout and my Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy not with fucking Niggas in Paris, which is just Kanye getting fucking lazy. (At least all of the Lights had a great beat, even if the verses were shit) I mean, it wouldn't be fair to judge Metallica purely off of Enter Sandman or some shit off of Load/St. Anger, would it?

frankly, the guy changed hip hop. some say for the better, some say for the worse, but there's no denying that the guy is talented as fuck. everything else, that's up to you.

Not perfect at all but his albums from the previous decade were some of the best during the decade (aside from 808's).

Not a fan of his attitude but he backs it up. One of the very few modern mainstream rap/hip-hop artists that are creative and makes "fresh" music.

Heh, so you are basing an artist as a whole on his recent radio singles?

You do know they were radio singles for a reason right?

It's crazy, he's got everything figured out. Everything in the world figured out. But you think he'd sacrifice a real life for it? The fame, the flashing lights?
No Gucci, no Louis Vuitoon, no YSL would take his heart of out his hell, or his mind out of that jail.

He just wanna be a real boy, he just wanna know what it feel like to live a real life.

He keep it too real boy, he keep it too real. =*(

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a perfect pile of steaming shit..

College Dropout >>> My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy > Late Registration > 808s >>>>>>>>>>>>>> WTT >> Graduation.

Prince took that throne already, Conway.

College Dropout >My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy = Late Registration > 808s >Graduation >>>>>>>>>>>>>> WTT

Perfect production? Dunno...but it's usually much better than everyone else's.

Perfect rhymes? Dunno...but they're found to usually be rather introspective and complicated when broken down. They're not words just rhyming for the sake of rhyming. That counts for something in my book times dominated by nursery school rapping. His anthology certainly contains several tracks that can fairly be considered "essential" hop-hop. Certainly more than any other solo hip-hop artist post-2000 outside of Jay.

All I really know is that College Dropout and Late Registration are timeless works. MDBTF is an interesting look into his soul and the life & times of the man. Graduation still offers some of the coldest beats on an album this side of the new millennium.

Entertaining topic, nonetheless. Mostly just mindless, directionless ranting against an obviously talented guy who's offerings are simply not to your taste. Always amusing how...inflexible some people are when it comes to music appreciation. I guess that's because half of you are teenagers. When you can jump from Radiohead to Kanye to Duke Ellington to Denez Prigent to Arcade Fire to Common to Sam Cooke in a single listening session and enjoy every second, we can talk about music.

tad rough, don't you think
probably just a day.

Was. Everything pre-808 was.

EDIT: Oh shit 808 fanboys are already prowling.

EDIT: 808 and MDTF are great albums, but Kanye's first albums were basically as good as modern rap got for me. I like 808, but he peaked at Graduation.

I think overall, his quality in music, lyrics, and beats is pretty fantastic for as long as he has been at this thing.

Godly, or perfect, no... every time is drops a new track... "ohhh shoot, no he didn't."

There are two kinds of Kanye West fans. Those who know and understand that 808s is his best album, and probably will continue to be. Then there's everyone else.

I liked 808 to a degree... but it didn't have NiP on it..

Or maybe humans have varying opinions.

Either way, Graduations dookies on everything else.

I feel like 808's could have been his best but it needed more time in the oven. Also I felt like he should of gave the album out for free.

Too bad he can't rap for shit. He's the worst part of his songs.

He's not terrible, but at his absolute best he's very mediocre and often times puts out some of the worst rhymes possible. Take away the background track and a lot of his stuff is very simple; the kind of stuff the guy down the block who dabbles in rhyming comes up with in his spare time.

I've noticed that the people who think he's the best rapper ever tend to skew younger and are generally not exposed to hip hop music as a whole. Kanye himself knows he's not the greatest anything, so why do they think so? Because they buy into his troll antics. He almost didn't make it in the rap game because he obviously sucked big time in his demo tapes and no one liked his boring rap style. His delusion is that he was "too different," which of course doesn't explain Busta, Eminem, Outkast, and other "out there" artists making it big at one point or another.

its not just his raps alone that make him great. its everything about the man. he wants to be the best so he calls himself the best. the dudes drive is unlike anyone I have ever seen in the hip hop game.
