I'm trying to get the new Star Wars sets, but I still have so much to put togther. This thread is not helping. My backlog...
From Slave 1 forward is done.
I wish I had this problem. Slave 1 is so good. I have it up on a high shelf and forgot it was there; must play with it this weekend.

I was working on the Blue Roadster MOC on a food tray while watching tv and I splashed my pieces and a few tiny ones scattered on the floor. I think I got the bulk but who knows. Oh well.

I really have no where to put the stuff. My home office is full and my desk at work has a bunch of stuff on it now. At least my wife is cool and even helped me build the falcon during Drunken Lego.

holy tight pants batman, TDKR batman sets, series 7 minifigs, hobbit, marvel

aarrrgh gonna be so broke in the next 12 months :(

Series 8 looks to be the best series yet, very few "filler" or repeats, and even the ones that do I don't mind so much, like the new cheerleader, bad 60s robot etc.

Also I'm very happy with that LEGO Bane so I'm not gonna bother getting my vest printed in a different material, I'll just buy theirs instead :)

Bit worried about my cuusoo tumbler though, I wouldn't mind if they release their own and it kicks arse, but if it's anything like the last one I'll be disappoint

Just picked up the Thor polybag from my local TRU.

Mine didn't have it. But I did grab a bunch of series 6 figs to try and finish my collection. They had a sale for free series 6 fig with a $20 set purchase. Funny enough, the mini figs counted towards the promo. So basically 8 figures for the price of 7.

Also, Toys R Us has the Werewolf set on sale this weekend for $18 and change. Fun little set, but two kick ass mini figs in it if no one has gotten it yet.

EDIT: 8 figures, only 2 I did not have before: surgeon and barbarian. Got an extra sleepy guy and minotaur like I wanted. An extra Grey Alien is not bad, but I really did not need another mechanic, female Samus clone, and most definitely did not want an extra genie.

Only two figures left to get all of series 6: Robot and Roman soldier. Anyone got extras that may need some other series 6 or 7 figures?

after series 6 and 7, yes, 8 looks like a disappointing set on the whole.

i'm tempted to skip and spend the extra funds on more superhero sets :)

I must be the only one who likes series 8, Bavarian, Santa Claus, Fairy, Diving Suit Guy, Redesigned Classic Pirate, Conquistador, Shakespearean Actor, Alien Overlord, Vinyl Emo guy, Cowgirl.

I can't think of any series that's had such variety.

I think it looks great. Someone on Reddit pointed out that the vinyl emo hipster is actually a DJ. I feel like an idiot for my noticing.

I am off to Brick Fete 2012 with my six year old this morning. Photos to follow!

Does anyone know how early Lego puts things up for presale? I reallllllly want that Haunted House and want to make sure I get it as soon as it is released. I definitely don't want to miss when it goes on sale, but I also don't want to have to keep checking Lego.com a couple times a day.

I don't think they have preorders if that's what you mean. They had haunted house on the uk site for a while now - they had it up there at £120 for a few weeks ipuntil bumping the price up to £150 - if they'd allowed preorders I'd have done it.

Oh really? I could have swore that there was a time in the past where I ordered something that said "Order now, ships in August" or something to that effect.

The Zombies comes out next month! But yeah, no free shipping is garbage. I would've ordered so much more if I didn't have to pay the tax and shipping fees. I don't want to use the VIP money I've accumulated to cover those costs, I want it to be an actual discount!! I may take the five-hour ride back to Vermont when the Haunted House comes out, to avoid shipping and tax. I don't care how much has costs!! :P

Nice! Have fun! My wife, my 5-year old daughter and I are planning to go tomorrow. Really looking forward to it...

Depending on the cost I think i'm just going to Bricklink the zombie minifigs. I've bought the small swamp set, but for the most part it's only the figures in the Monster Fighters theme that interest me. Well, those and the Haunted House modular :P

Yep, August brings us "The Zombies" ($40USD) as well as "Palpatine's Arrest" ($80? USD).

I also like how LEGO timed the discount for the Blue Roadster to fit in with the "Build-A-MOC" challenge. Thanks TLG!

Jeeze, on my "to get" list:

4x4 Crawler (day 1)
Unimog
Crazy Scientist and his Monster
Vampyre Castle
Zombies
Haunted House

and I'm still on the fence about getting into the modular sets, which would add:

Fire Brigade
Grand Emporium
Pet Shop
Town Hall
Mini-Modulars

And now I see the Series 8 minifigs and nearly all of them look awesome to me! My wallet is going to be going through separation anxiety in the coming months, that much is certain. I told myself I wouldn't be interested in minifigs or minifig-scale sets when I got back into LEGO, but the campy charm of Monster Fighters and the awesome detail designs of the modulars are drawing me in. I'm just glad LotR, SW, and Marvel/DC stuff doesn't interest me for the most part.

Ideally, if I can hold off on getting at least some of these sets for awhile, is there a good resource to see when sets are likely to go out of print? Does LEGO announce ahead of time, or do they just announce and stop print on the same day?

Placed an order for the two newest modular buildings this last Thursday, the pet store and the town hall. Will arrive by UPS on Monday. Looking forward to building something new again. =)

Regarding your 4x4 and Unimog, wait on the 4x4. I'm REALLY excited about, like, CRAZY excited. It comes out on the 23rd, but that's the FIRST DAY it'll be available. As a result, you can expect to see that set out there for at least 2 years. The Unimog is going to go OOP very soon, so grab that now.

The same can be said about the other sets. If you check www.brickset.com and look up the set's release date, you can get an idea if you should wait or grab it now. Sets released in 2010 are most at risk of going away. Those from 2011 have about another year on their clock. You can plan your purchases out that way. :)

E: For example, if you were going to get into modulars, go buy the Fire Brigade immediately, followed by the Grand Emporium. From there, you've got some time on the Pet Shop and Minis. Town Hall is brand new, so you've got 2 years or so on that, still. From the other sets, Unimog is the only one I can see that is close to going OOP.

Thanks for the reply, and yeah you're probably right on the 4x4, I'm just excited to make Technic RC vehicles, and figured the 4x4 would be the easiest way to do that (I already have the Supercar and Excavator).

As for the the out of print sets, is there a certain time of year when LEGO stops printing sets, and do they announce before they take a set out of print? Do all sets have a 2-year life cycle, or are there variations?

Looking at Brickset for release dates, it seems that I should first focus on picking up the Unimog set, and then Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, and Tower Bridge if I decide to get into Modulars (I forgot to add Tower Bridge in my original list, and I realize it's not a modular, but I want it because it looks awesome).

That's exactly why I want the 4X4! But, I realize that other sets should take precedence given their time of release.

As for when sets tend to go out of print, I'm not sure there is any sort of pattern. All I know is that they tend to disappear around the same time new sets come out. The biggest thing to watch for is in the Lego catalog. Usually if the set is not shown in there, you can expect it to go away shortly. The example I can quote would be the fire brigade. That said has not been in the latest Lego club magazines.

Sorry, using talk to text on my iPhone while in traffic. Hopefully this makes sense!

Went to Target to get the cool cruiser for the MOC challenge. Also grabbed the small "Forbidden Forrest" Harry Potter set on clearance for $9. Seemed worth it for 9 minifigs.

That's definitely helpful, and I appreciate your replies, but don't feel obligated to respond while driving, stay safe! Haha

Does anyone know how many minifigs you get in the box for the Olympics? Is it just the same as the regular series? If so how much is that? Thanks

Been awhile since I posted in this thread...it's agonizing even flipping through it when I can't buy anything! Went all-out for my birthday though. It's all I asked for from my wife and parents, and this is what I ended up with...

I have the Vampyre Castle coming, too. :) They just didn't have it in the store.

Picked up Olivia's House so my daughter will hang and build with me. At some point I am gonna have to post an extensive mea culpa regarding the Friends sets, as we now own pretty much all of them and are counting the days to the next wave. I was way, way off on those. They're a blast. Should have listened to Dr. F!

Nice haul! LEGO birthdays are the best birthdays.

YMMV, but I just got back from my local target and they had a lot of kits on clearance. I picked up the Republic Frigate (#7694) for $83 and the T-6 Jedi Shuttle (#7931) for $40 even.
