I think you need to lighten up.

I think you should darken down!!!

Yeah okay maybe I was a little hard on them...

I don't care if the graffiti is good or bad, vandalism is vandalism.

You have to admit, it's a creative way to voice their frustration. It's too bad they couldn't get in touch with the building owners. Some of these street artists can make really nice murals. With a few ground rules, it could be used to get youths involved in neighborhood beautification projects...

This actually saddens me

Yeah. Talented graffiti artists really need to be given a good medium. There's so much bullshit tagging out there, it's a real shame when something of worth and merit gets paved over.

To be fair, for something that complex to be on the wall with such segregation and not be completely tagged up to shit, they almost definitely would have had to have gotten permission from the store owner. If the picture is to be assumed, the only reason why it was cleared was because the shop shuttered. Doesn't make it any less sad, but it's the natural progression of things.

Graffiti isn't vandalism.
Vandalism is a deliberate attempt to destroy, graffiti isn't.
Also, murals like that one cannot really be done in hiding, so the owner of that property either commissioned it, was aware of it, or the property was abandoned.

p.s.
that picture is awesome.

There is a possibility that mural could of been paid for and a city/community ordinance made them paint over it. I remember a lot of cities were banning mural art even if the owner wanted it on the building.

LOL yeah try using your google "define vandalism" with a cop to avoid arrest.

You are very wrong. In Canada, graffiti is 100%, unarguably, vandalism.

Did you even read the post you quoted? Or do the police everyone outside with a can of spray paint in Canada?

EDIT: Or you were being sarcastic and I fell, hook, line, and sinker.

I've discussed this graffiti thing so many times I'm not willing to go full on into an argument, but I'll say this - there's a fine lin between vandalism and street art, and it should be up to the owner of said property whether or not they wish their walls to be decorated with such things.

A solution, I believe, would be designated graffiti walls (look at Banksy's book and you'll see what I mean). Now the argument of people spreading messages and slogans in the public view is no different from corporate advertisements now, is it? Think about it.

I´m confused. So you´re saying art is only art if it is legal?

So you're saying all graffiti is art?

I'm saying that if they are paid to do it, they are creating art in a graffiti-style, as opposed to simply creating graffiti, which is unasked-for art, i.e. vandalism. In most cases, graffiti is unwanted art or tags, creating high costs for those who must remove it.

EDIT: Go here bro.
