| Day 4 - Summary |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry for the delay. Work is a tad busy right now, so we gotta go FAST.
We had very many participants for the trivia contest, which is a tad surprising, but glad you all liked it! Thanks again to speevy for taking care of creating the questions. After the extension, we'll also finally end the FS contest.
No proper badges today either, BUT I have a surprise badge coming up later.
| Day 4 - Contest Winners |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lets finally get the FS contest out of the way, shall we?
#8 - Frozen Synapse

There was no voting or highscoring, so I'll just take all the entries and draw 2 random winners. We had 15 participants, and from those the first random winner is The_Monk! Congrats! And thanks again for helping out :) Our second random winner is Firebrand!

Games:
The_Monk - Alan Wake + DLC! (sponsored by Xelios)
Firebrand - Hamilton's Great Adventure! (sponsored by Falxix)

Well, those were certainly nice gifts! Congrats you two :)

#9 - Shatter

For this one we had 13 entries, and to no surprise...

LFF 151.587.120
LuffyZoro 107.321.600
MNC 59.325.700
OmegaDragon 52.271.800
Tobinishi 50.159.460
A Human Becoming 39.119.000
Firebrand 39.111.200
Herla 36.684.800
BigAT 33.447.700
toddhunter 33.315.500
S. L. 31.456.200
mclem 30.893.600
mannerbot 20.484.100
...LFF took the cake with his incredible score. From the other 12 entries, Tobinishi takes the random win!

Games:
LFF - Dirt 3! (sponsored by S. L.) (that was only 1 spot away from the russian roulette surprise! Wonder which game we'll see there.)
Tobinishi - Cthulu Saves the World + Breath of Death! (sponsored by Acrid Meat) (aka our coal since everybody already owns it :P)

#10 - Trivia
Well, well, well. Lets just say that Speevy tried his best to verify the answers for his questions. Thanks again for thinking them up! Lots of people appreciated this contest very much!

The problem is that some of your answers are completely valid, but we simply didnt expect them. 25 replies named 15 different PS2 RPG's for example ;) That is why I simply decided to throw all the participants into a bag and draw a random winner again. Here are the solutions that we initially expected:

1) In the 2002 Gamecube game "Super Mario Sunshine", name two fruits Yoshi can eat.

Answer: Papaya, pineapple.

2) In the SNES game Super Punch Out, how do you make Narcis Prince angry?

Answer: Body blow, then hit his face.

3) In the Gamecube game "Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean", which town looks like a collection of desserts?

Answer: Parnasse

4) In the game The Elder Scrolls Morrowind, what are the names of the guards in Vivec?

Answer: Ordinators

5) How does the DS game Giana Sisters use the system's microphone?

Answer: Once you're inside a bubble, you can blow into the system to go upward.

6) Which PS2 RPG is known for being brutally difficult, and not allowing you to save your progress often?

Answer: Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter

7) What was the first Xbox Live game for the original Xbox?

Answer: Mech Assault

8) What's the most valuable fish you can sell to Tom Nook in the original Animal Crossing?

Answer: Coelocanth or Stringfish

9) Name three weapons Master Higgins from the Adventure Island series can use.

Answer: Hammer/tomahawk, boomerang, fire

10) Rubber chicken ____ _ ______ __ ___ ______
WITH A PULLEY IN THE MIDDLE.

Props to Razakin and A Human Becoming for actually naming the RPG that we had in our solution.

As a sidenote:
Out of ALL the entries, two people did not get to the answer for #10. And Cth's answer really deserves a mention here...
Cth said:
wants a corset on its batman.
..and the badge I promised earlier:
eg3WI.png

xIKoJ.png

I know, I know. Its batman on a corset, not a corset on Batman, but come on. Close enough. Suits you well! ;)

So the random winners are mclem and LuffyZoro! Congrats!

Games:
LuffyZoro - Nation Red! (sponsored by Sye d'burns)
mclem - Nuclear Dawn! (sponsored by Snapshot King)

Congrats again to the winners! Give me a bit time to organize the gifting. You should have it by tomorrow.

New contests coming up in the next 1-2 hours. See ya later guys!

Yeah, like I said, it's tough.

I suspect that some people tried to look too deeply into the games, and others found details that I missed.

In any case, that's what is great about games, isn't it? We take from them the bits and pieces that we will.

Without reading the responses, I can imagine that the Morrowind question and the PS2 RPG question prompted the most varied responses.

I can also guess that the Adventure Island question prompted some people to name the dinosaurs as weapons, or to only include the NES games as "the Adventure Island" series.

First Xbox Live game was a little tricky for me, but the answer I thought was how I remembered it in 2002.

I hope at least there were some standouts, and it sounds like Toma was a very fair judge.

That was the answer to Question 10? BAN that man! Well it was 3 AM in here but still...

I still don't get it...

Thanks a lot for the Questions Speevy! It was fun.

I'm laughing so hard at Cth's answer, brilliant. One thing that threw me bit off in that tenth question was the one extra underscore on the first word. Sneaky.

Also, can we get a list of all the rpg's named? Had myself bit difficulty choosing between BoF V and Nocturne, because BoF V ain't hard people, get to know the battle mechanics and it's a breeze.

Anyways congrats to the winners.

Sure, I'll write up a list with the RPG's mentioned later.

I'd be interested to hear the numbers who went for each; I said Nocturne, too.

I had no idea, so I said Dragon Quest 8. Anyway, I'm happy I finally won something (though I wish it had been with Shatter), but I already have Nation Red, so I suppose what I'll do with it is give it back to Toma for this.

Yeah, thats why I tried to counter that fight before it even started and entered everyone into the draw.

By the way, what if winners get games they already have? :p

They are free to do whatever they wish with it! Gift it back to me for the prize pile or gift it to someone else instead :)

Oh hey, if you're looking for another game for a contest, why not Trackmania Nations Forever? It's a free racing game.

I am actually considering having a contest around all "F2P" games. Trackmania might get a single contest though. Great suggestion, thanks.

Contest #11: Videogame Haiku
My gf orders me to ask you to do some Haikus after reading A Human Becomings entry to the idea contest. ;)

You are free to choose any game/gaming experience you wish.

Haiku rules:

- Only three lines, totaling 17 syllables throughout
- The first line must be only 5 syllables
- The second line must be comprised of 7 syllables
- The third line must be 5 syllables like the first
- Punctuation and capitalization rules are up to the poet, and need not follow rigid rules used in structuring sentences
- Haiku does not have to rhyme, in fact many times it does not rhyme at all
- Some haiku can include the repetition of words or sounds

- Contest runs until the next batch of daily deals goes up, so tomorrow 7pm GMT+2,
- 1 winner chosen by vote, another one randomly
- You can submit more than one Haiku, but please post them all in the same post. You are of course free to make a new post in the thread to inform people of a new post that you added to your initial Haiku contest post.
- Your first post containing a Haiku will be the one I link in the list on page 1.

Have fun!

After using my Google fu I too was deciding between BoF V and Nocturne. I've didn't find Nocturne that hard from the few hours I remember playing it, so I went with BoF V.

Your girlfriend has good taste Toma. ;)

Wow, kinda surprised I won the Shatter contest.
I already have Dirt 3 so I guess Luffyzero can have it if he wants, or it can go back into the gift pile.

For the RPG question in the quiz, I went for Grandia Xtreme, as I'd heard it had a lack of save points.

Thanks for the contests!

I've got Dirt 3 as well. I've got to know though, what'd you do to jump your score up that high?

Contest #12 Tobe's Vertical Adventure Highscore Challenge
75% off for a bit over 1 dollar. One of those hidden gems that people keep missing because its not on the frontpage. Props to jarosh for recommending it in the Steam thread.

Level to play: World 1 act 2: Mystical Caverns

- Console version is fine too, take a photo then
- That level is probably also available in the demo, if you dont want to spend 1$. Someone please verify.
- Make a screenshot of the endlevel screen. Its a HIGHSCORE challenge, not speedrun.
- If you accidentally beat this level you might not be able to play it again until you played through world 1 and then choose to replay it via the level select screen. Either play the level, make a screenshot and then immediately replay it, or play through world 1 completely to replay it later.
- If you get the same graphical glitches that I get (win 7 64x), run it in window mode and use the screen calibration in the options menu
- plays better with controller buttons mapped to the controls, not sure whether controller is outright supported, someone verify please.

Enjoy! :)

[

Hahaha, you're right already own it ;). Back in the prize pile with it, i guess ;).

Yeaaah, Tobe! It's à great game that's also available in XBLIG, fyi. I'll try to do the 2 next contests, if I've time :s

Haha, cute. But its 5 -7 -7 instead of 5-7-5 syllables. I wont be too strict on that though :)

Of course.

Oh rly. What a strange coincidence. Currently trying to contact then.

Just want to pop in to say how cool it is of Xelios to hold to his part of the deal after Monk was such a douchebag to him just the previous day on Steam.

Personally, I'd have told the guy to fuck himself after the way he acted.

I really dont like Haikus... but here's mine:

Contest #11
Don't care about hats
but warm you until you die,
pyromania!

Crazy that this is one word with 5 syllables and only 9 letters.

I've got Dirt 3 as well. I've got to know though, what'd you do to jump your score up that high?

I'm not entirely sure, but here's how I generally try to play:
-All balls released to break blocks fast, get tons of shards quickly. I heard that the multiplier increases faster or you get more points with quick successive hits too, so thats where multiple balls comes a lot in handy.
-Suck in shards constantly: tons of shards = high multiplier, i think
-Use shard storm to destroy the last few blocks of each wave to get bonus points at the end of the level and to conserve the shard stormmeter for the next wave, though I don't think this is the optimal way to use shard storms.
-Have a shard storm ready for the boss to beat it quickly for the points. Again, have all balls out on the field and always be sucking in to get the loose shards. Should be able to destroy the boss with the second shard storm.

On wave two, I find it useful to launch the balls so they all go inbetween the two walls of bricks and can bounce back and forth really quickly.

There is also bonus points for not having any balls touch walls in just a single wave of a level, but I didn't go for this in particular.

Also manouveraballs are bad.

I get this. It's because hey get pulled too much when you're constantly sucking in fragments. Pretty much the best power-up to get is the Unstoppaball.

Anyway, sounds like that was basically my strategy, but you're better at not losing the balls.
