Darksiders 2 new info! [one month away from release]

Just a quick note: anyone who is interested in the Darksiders lore, I fully recommend buying the new darksiders novel. It is basically set before the events of the first one but gives real insight into Death as a character and just how important it was for virgil to change tack and make a game about him. It also shows much of a badass, sarcastic asshole he is compared to war. I'm not a person for games that are story focused, but death oozes so much personality in the book I can't wait to hear his one liners in the game.

I bought the book yesterday evening and finished it in one sitting. It's that well written compared to most tie in fiction.

Best you can expect is an action adventure 4 player coop game but each horse man acts like their own class their own loot and skill trees. Strife the classical ranged class, fury the mage class, war the strength/tank class and death the melee agility class.

Would be an ambitious game though and it will be hard also incorporating the adventure the series is known for.

What? There are only 4 horsemen how are they going to make it an mmo

don't worry about that if they ever go down that road their will be Plently characters to choose from.

the horsemen are the last survivors of a bloodthirsty warrior race that at one point threatened all of creation. For reasons unknown they defected, but a MMO could explore further what exactly they did and why.

If anyone could pull it off at this point I can see vigil doing it. Just going to be a really intense project to make perfect. I really want to see how they handle a mage character. Death's spell tree barely gives a glimpse into it, it's more necromancer style than a real mage.

hahaha well we would know the event that would happen when they shut the servers down :P

I never played the first one and i've only been following this sporadically but i find myself getting hyped as hell after watching the vids in the op. Which doesn't happen that often.

Just looks so fun.

mortis book code?

If you preordered the Darksiders novel, it gets you a code for a gauntlet. Though I imagine xbox hasn't generated codes for them to use yet.

Yeah, it's okay. I'd compare it to the writing quality of a 40k book if you've ever read one of those. Kind of corny but generally interesting.

Fair enough.
I liked it, but it made me far more interested in the exploits of the nephilim, what prompted their acts of murder and conquest, than the stories of the horsemen during the fake apocalypse. Most importantly, I am interested to know why Death & co defected just to become errand boys for the charred council. I hope future novels explore this, if the games cannot.

Technically its pronounced with the H, but most people I know just say it as "Sigh" so how about:

"Darksiders II |OT|: Scythe-O-Nara"

Please don't hurt me :)

Those characters are amazing. It seems like an elfic language XDDDDD Are you sure thats greek?

Yes, that is Greek. They have really old language that was not copied much by other civilizations. Roman alphabet [and Arabian numbers] was the basis for the majority of European languages.

Glad I pre-ordered the book, forgot about that.

The book was pretty decent, it's not Lotr or anything but it's fun and a good look at some of the lore behind the games and worth the time and price to read it.

I'm about halfway through it, and it's a fun read. Looking forward to read how Ari wraps it all up. Nice to see how others expand our universe/lore.

Also, bonus question to both tragic and hdn, seeing as they both post here. What is the origin of the name 'Darksiders'?

The name was made up by Joe Mad, and seemed to fit the idea of the four, selected Nephalim quite well.

They are neither good, nor bad and their jobs is a messy one. Their targets are many (Angels, Demons and everything in between).

Haydn, I'm not sure how you can answer this best but, I was thinking about the mission of Death, "to clear his brother's name". I know DSII takes place parallel to the first, but
the Charred Council were the ones who used War in the first place
, so what does he have to clear up?

hdn any chance you could push the release date up :P

I'm sitting here, bored as all hell, staring at my DS2 preorder in my Steam library and frowning. Patience is not my strongest trait.

Death doesn't know that.

Death doesn't know the council have anything to do with what happened.

War himself, only finds that information out later during his adventures, so how would Death know?

Finally entered this thread because the outdated [one month from release] bit in the OP was bugging me for the past week.

"Darksiders II |OT|: Featuring THQ's Death"
That's pretty funny. :lol

I really like Darksiders II |OT| No. Not Alone.
That makes me sad they're (from what I've heard) not using the terrific setup from the first game. :(

Actually, that's got me curious. Haydn, what made you guys decide to go with Death's story parallel to War's instead of continuing from where DS1 ended?

Just to be clear.

Will every piece of DLC, Side-Quest, Weapons, Armors, Gear, given in pre-orders, Season Pass, etc be available later for everyone to buy?

How much will cost the Season Pass?

THQ handle all the DLC and how it's distributed. I'll see if there's a definitive answer to this question.

In Ds1, it was a close call between having War, or Death, as the main character. Many people asked what the other horsemen were doing while War was going through his trials and, we loved the idea of taking another horseman and expanding out the game mechanics from the first. It also let us explore the underworld and "some", of it's worlds.

Joe had already done concepts for him too, which we all liked. So, it basically all fell into place.

Wow, I want this so bad. I thought the ending of Darksiders 1 implied something along the lines of this. Please, Vigil!

I really like the idea of Vigil making 4 games about the different horsemen, each game with its own particular mechanics and in the end a game with all four or an entire new character that ended the story. I'll be rooting for you guys to keep up the amazing work!

Darksiders 1 - War
Darksiders 2 - Death
Darksiders 3 - Strife
Darksiders 4 - Fury
Darksiders 5 - all four horseman are fully playable and the final chapter in the Darksiders saga is revealed. It's four horseman against the forces of heaven and hell in an epic war to return the balance of good and evil on earth!

This is the approach I want them to take so much.
