You mean Hope or like, the actual Jean? I want the actual Jean, darn it!

Actual teenage Jean travels through time to the present day, interacting with the current X-Men. She's not alone, i don't remember who else comes with her, i think young cyclops. It's Brian Bendis' All New X-Men book.

There artists, and most importantly writers, have been more consistent. So there is a comparison, and one that reflects Marvel more favorably. Wasn't there a NuDC book that changed writers midissue?

lol
None have changed mid-issue. If you want to talk writer changes, I'm counting 12, including those that have been solicited. (Hurwitz becoming the sole writer of that Finch Batman book, Ann Nocenti coming up on Catwoman, Liefeld on Deathstroke, the guy from Chew on Detective, Matt Kindt on Frankenstein, Ann Nocenti on Green Arrow, Liefeld on Grifter, Liefeld on Hawkman, Lemire on JLD, Jurgens and Giffen on Superman, Lobdell on Superman and Milligan on Stormwatch). You can add some if you count the books Morrison and Liefeld will leave in 2013.

^That is fucking worse. Fuck Marvel.

Every time I read that shit about Jean I laugh at Marvel's "Not just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks" remark. That is exactly what that is. There is no way they thought that shit through.

It was an idea that had been kicked around the office for a while that Bendis liked, and one he developed when his transition from Avengers to X-Men became official.

Marvel.com: Did Avengers Vs. X-Men lead to this new series, or is ALL-NEW X-MEN something that’s been in your head for a long time?

Brian Bendis: Avengers Vs. X-Men led to it. It was an idea that had been floating around the X-Office for a while and I’m still unclear where exactly it percolated. I’m a big fan of these kinds of stories, "Pleasantville" or "Peggy Sue got Married," where a character faces the truth about themselves and what their life can mean versus what it does mean. They’re very interesting stories and the idea of the original X-Men seeing what the X-Men turned into is absolutely fascinating to me. When I first heard about it I was interested, but it never really stuck the landing or came about. I’d asked about it often, as a fan though, but it never found its home.

When we first did the AvX retreat here at my house, we were sitting outside talking after we finished and I said “I guess I should bail off of Avengers when this is done since I’ve been on it longer than anyone’s ever been on it and eventually I’ll have to leave.” Better to leave now than people going “Ugh, leave.” I wanted to make sure I left on a high note and then slowly the idea of everyone leaving their books began to percolate. I don’t want to put too much importance on it, but it created a domino effect where I was leaving Avengers and someone had to take it, so then they’re leaving their book and someone needs to take that, etc. Everyone has this opportunity to start this new part of their career with a strong take on a new book and with that comes Marvel NOW! It’s very exciting, especially to those of us who’ve locked in big gigs early on.

Axel, Tom and everyone were at my house and told me if I was interested I should go to X-Men. I said I’d go if no one is doing the "Days of Future Now" [idea, as it was called back then]. At the time it was only me and Jeph Loeb who were interested in it and Loeb already had other commitments. Before AvX I was already [going to be] the writer of X-Men and it was interesting to write these characters in such dire straits. I knew that no matter how crazy it got during AvX that I’d be handling the fallout, which is always the best part.
Marvel NOW! Q&A with writer Brian Michael Bendis

I think I'll go ahead and get Bendis X-men. I don't think I've read anything of his since whenever he was doing Alias/Daredevil/Powers ....I'm such an Xmen hor

My opinion is that Original X-Men exists for the sole purpose of killing off original Ice Man to make 616 modern ice man all serious.

Higher Earth #3: Continues to be fun high-concept sci-fi. Big stuff about the "main" character revealed in this issue. Also dinosaurs.

Daredevil #16: This has been my favorite arc in a consistently great series.

AvX #9: Some X-Men fought some Avengers. It was pretty rad.

Courtney Crumrin #4: I have a feeling anyone who enjoys Hellboy would like this comic.

I might check out Courtney Crumrin one day, especially if it got a comixology sale.....do you hear me Oni Press??????

Bendis's X Men book sounds stupid.

Well they finally announced another X-Men book... rebooted Legacy. Whatever.

Avengers is where I will be hanging out till hopefully they bring back other writers.

Hickman/Remender lets gooooo!

Is there anything else i should be buying for the Dark Horse sale at instock trades?

Already have Hellboy Library editions, i would be ordering Plague Frogs Omni volume 2 and 3....and i would have to spend $12 more for free shipping. No Buffy or Angel needed since i've read those already.

I'm thinking Axe Cop tpbs?

This all hinges on whether i start and like Plague of Frogs omni vol 1 before the sale ends :p

If you already order comics through DCBS, get the BPRD omnis through them and not In Stock trades. They are an extra 5% off on the main site and they will just drop the omnis in with your next comics delivery.

I wouldn't get Axe Cop, it's just typical Bendis not writing under his pen name.

I bought a new long box today thinking I'd only fill it up a part of the way...

turns out i filled up the entire thing and still had to leave 3 bags of comics out and unboxed.

I got too many comics methinks.

also my shop guy had a tshirt of the next Joker storyline with the cut off face being posed in front of a joker card. I want that tshirt so bad, does anyone know anyone selling? I

I think you have it the other way around, they are 48% off at instock trades and just looking at dcbs, it's 40% off there. About $2.70 per book cheaper at instock trades.

Sorry as I'm sure this has been covered, but when does Marvel Now! start exactly?

Obviously now or else the name would be ridiculous....

Or one would think, since Uncanny Avengers starts in October, then in November there will be a bunch of NOW! books, those are the ones that marvel just teased and will be in the new solicits for november books that should pop up next week or so.

Marvel NOW! ( just not now! but later! )

Marvel NOW! reminds me of Catholicism WOW!

must....start...Plague of Frogs omnibus vol 1!!!!!!!!

but i need to start Hellboy Library Edition vol 1 first, i think, considering plague of frogs is a spin off series

On an unrelated note, Comixology is having a sale on Angel and Spike IDW books. I have read Angel After the Fall through Lynch's run with it, and while i had some gripes with the wrap-up, i thought it was fun. Especially if you're paying 99 cents and issue and liked the Angel tv series. I was going to buy the last Angel arc, though i haven't read immortality for dummies or the crown prince syndrome yet, but i noticed the actual hardcover was only $4.40 shipped new from amazon marketplace so i got that instead to finsih the collection.

Check it out! ( only if you like the Angel show)

"Grendel is a brave and possibly even reckless experiment that has succeeded admirably." --Alan Moore (Watchmen)

$13.43 on Amazon!

HOLY SHIT!

Yeah, this is on my wishlist. I'm intrigued to check it out. Sounds pretty cool and groundbreaking (for its time). Volume 2 is out in December, IIRC.

The neat part is it's printed in chronological order. Which may make for interesting reading with the varying art styles of the era they were printed in, but it sounds like the best way to read the series.

Plus it's reasonably priced.

Second volume is in December and will be full color and 500+ pages. :O

Hope that the exit of Morrison will improve this relaunch.

I bought it a while back when I was really into Batman Elseworlds. Was pretty good, still have it at home. Loved the premise and the artwork.

Wouldn't that be potentially catastrophic? "Hey, welcome to the future, you starry eyed kids! Let's talk about the Phoenix, shall we? Jean, it's gonna make you eat a star, cause your clone to summon the devil, force an alien race to viciously slaughter your entire family oh, and in the end, you'll die because of it! Scott, the Phoenix is going to literally force you to stop loving Jean, then it'll grant you a fifth of it's cosmic power and turn you into the kind of megalomaniacal madman you've been fighting! Hank, the Phoenix is going to totally wreck your face and destroy your empire!"

Have I got news for you! You see a few years ago Marvel introduced a new hot redhead to replace Jean.

Her name is Hope!

Adam Jensen I never asked for this.

Finally got around to reading the run of Saga so far and all I have to say is 'wow'. Such a fantastic and immersive experience. Up there with Chew for my favorite art in recent memory.

They'll probably just feed the teenagers pizza, it is a Bendis book after all.

I"m not sure if that's the right thread for this, but I will try anyway.
After watching Dark Knight Rises I got massive Batman boner, that doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon, even after second visit to the cinema and replaying the whole damn Arkham City. So I decided to go back to Batman comics.

I've read all the classics, so what I'm interested is following regular and current series. But I see there are like half a dozen regular series :] Are they all interconected or can I stick to only some of them? What's a good point to start with modern batman? New 52?

The main Batman titles are stand-alone series. Just order this for now:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/1401235417/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Or try to go to a comic shop or website and pick up the Batman issues of Scott Snyder's Batman series. September is a good jumping on point for most of the series as they are doing #0 issues before jumping into the next big story arcs. Detective Comics and The Dark Knight are going through creative changes and show promise, but regular Batman is consistently good.

Here is another great one that is still in continuity, but Dick Grayson (Nightwing, original Robin) is filling in as Batman while Bruce is setting up Batman, Inc.:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/140123206X/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Here is the backstory for Batman, Inc.:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/1401232124/?tag=neogaf0e-20

There is also a monthly series for Batman, Inc. by Grant Morrison that is supposed to be good.

New 52 Batman by Snyder/Capullo for current.

Detective Comics: Black Mirror by Snyder for before new 52 but awesome. All his issues are collected in one hardcover, or a cheaper trade coming out in november.
