No good pics of red IMO, however this video is a good representation

My 20 minute review is nearly done processing. Blue one. It looks amazeballs.

Did you try holding down the power button? That was the hardware reset function on the 3DS but I don't know if they kept it for the XL.

How did this not get more attention?

If holding down the power button does NOT work anymore, that's a fucking disaster, imagine having to wait until the battery dies every damn time :(

really want to know if the hardware reset still works!

well, sounds like ill be keeping the feet off my current 3DS cradle and taking precautions then, good to know ahead of time.

It seems like there's a lot less complaints, so I'd speculate that it must have something to do with what people do to it. For example, I got a 20 minute bicycle ride to the train station in my commute, and in the Japanese humid summer, my bag (with my 3DS in a case in it) is in my front basket, get bumped really hard whenever I go over a bump on the road or a curb.

I get the feeling that I would be one of those people who would get some marks.

So my reason for buying an LL (not have to take extra care of it) are out the window for now. I bet people who walk to the train station, or drive do not have this problem, and the LL does solve the scratches.

All speculation mind you.

3D effect on the old 3DS is better...well at least for me. At first I thought the new 3DS would have a better 3D effect, but after playing Star Fox 64 again, I've got major problems to find the sweetspot on the new model. Old model is easier on my eyes and with the new model I'm constantly moving the 3DS so I can see the 3D. Quite exhausting tbh.

Played Ocarina of Time on my XL for the first time last night. It looks absolutely glorious. Along with Mario Kart 7 its easily one of the major benefactors of the increase in screen size. Almost feels like a seperate experience entirely vs playing on a regular 3DS, almost as if it was built for the XL or optimised for larger screens (it wasn't, but it feels like it).

So, so good.

Did you have an initial period with the OG 3DS of having difficulty finding the sweet spot? I know a lot of people took a week or so to get comfortable with it, and maybe it's possible with the new screen there will be a new period of adjustment?

To be able to achieve transparencies, the GBA flickers the sprites on and off. The refresh rate on the 3DS screen is much higher than what Game Boy and GBA had, so to keep that effect they have to put some motion blur on the sprites.

It's the same thing with the Game Boy games on Virtual Console, but it's not as severe on them.

I believe many people remember playing GBA game on a DS or the backlit SP models (which used screens similar to the DS), which had much less ghosting than the original GBA and SP.

Another issue is that some games (but not all of them) have the brightness set too low, maybe in attempt to emulate the shitty screen of non-backlit GBA models. Mario Kart SC is the darkest one, I think.

Maybe you're holding the unit too close to your face. I haven't used a XL yet, but with the OG 3DS, the further the unit is the stronger the depth is.

Im still not sure if I'm getting the XL. I have the option to turn in my old 3DS and pay 80 euro's to get it, though the main problem is I havent touched my 3DS in like 6+ months. However, the main reason was because of the small screen size. Still got a couple of weeks to think about this though the offer is available untill august 31st.

The game I got are Pokémon, Zelda and Street Fighter. What do u guys advise me to do? Considering I'm already thinking about if I'd do it, all future games will be bought used.

From my experience (original 3DS day one, 3DS XL day one also) the furthest I hold the XL away from me the more banding/ghosting I see with the screens paralax layers.... Maybe just me but my sweetspot for the XL is closer than my sweetspot for the original..

Holy shit that's awful.

But that has an orange-ish background, of course it's gonna look yellow.

The parts that are orange should appear to be orange. All the areas that are white should look white. What's shown in that screen above is atrocious. Based on various pictures though it appears to be a crapshoot on whether or not we'll get a really yellow screen (incredibly warm temp) or just a mildly yellow screen. I'll be returning mine over and over to Target until I get one I like.

Ok so I just did the system transfer...how do I get all my stuff from the original 3DS 2GB card to the new 4GB card?!

Your pics/music/videos? Connect your 2GB SD to your PC, copy them to your HDD and then connect your 4GB to your PC and then copy them

For 30 in US dollars thats a little steep.
I'm in the UK, and picked the cheapest shipping option. Works out a few quid cheaper than the cradle/charger bundle that'll be released in the UK in a couple of weeks, and Game already, literally forced a charger upon me already as part of their bundle.

When power save is turned on the screen will go yellowish.

Of course it will, but you gotta assume that he knew to turn it off on the OG 3DS, so he'd know to do the same on the XL. There's been plenty of pictures taken of the XL with powersave off to know that there's a yellow issue. Seems to be that the larger Nintendo make their screens, the warmer the temp. Was true on the DSi XL as well.

I may PM IdreamofHIME because I'm pretty curious about this now. Even if the power button is no longer the hard reset there's got be another one built in. Have any Euro/Japan owners checked the operation manual?

"Press and hold the power button to turn off the power"
from the pal manual page 12
