COMICS! August l OT l So what's new with comics?

I just cut down my 37 titles to 20 titles, with the intent of (very) slowly transitioning over to digital. Basically I won't add any more books to my pull-list, so however long it takes for the current runs I am collecting physically to all end is how long it will take until I'm 100% digital.

Join the revolution indeed.

Why no MAX titles though? It's really annoying .

Thanks to that Ultimate sale, I've finally bought my first Comixology comics and I think I'm fucked.
It really looks like the worst of both worlds between Steam sales and comic binges.
Fuck.

Yep these are far worse than Steam Sales as they occur a lot more often and involve lots of titles sometimes.

What about Marvel including digital codes with their 3.99 books, will you still buy them in print?

Meh. I'm the kinda guy who'll want to go all-in. Once I'm migrated over to digital, I probably won't care about issues. The only physical books I'm likely to care about are fancy hardcover editions of my favorite stuff.

That is unfortunate, but I believe every comic will be digital before long.

Especially since DC has Vertigo comics out and other labels have theirs. I'd be less annoyed if I didn't want to read Fury MAX.

Though Drak Horse fragmenting the market with their own useless required app is what really pisses me off.

The Marvel Now looks interesting to me, save me please brahs.

And fuck instocktrades again for not shipping my order.

At least it won't be like the new 52, if that's an comfort. Like most reboots or big creative team changes, I'll buy the first couple issues to try them out and decide if it's pull list worthy.

I love the new 52, read nearly 40 of the books. I am probably the only new fan that the new 52 got.

Everything is instock and picked just been chiilin there for days. gonna email them.

This part of B&R 12 was pretty cool, even if it was just a glorified cameo with no real change of the status quo.

The writing was noticeably weak this issue too with Batman just shouting a lot of simple sentences at the bad guy, and I go back and forth on the art. But B&R is the only way to get a monthly helping of Damian so I guess I'll stick with it.

I'm on board too. New Action Comics has been good and it didn't mess with the excellent Bat stuff too much outside some bizarre moves like Tim never being Robin. I hear good things about Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Earth-2 as well.

Man, Tim Drakes new outfit sucks...Awesome art though.

It really does. :( Marcus To does a good job with it, but he doesn't draw Time anymore. T_T

I really loved the old costume (well, the second Alfred-modified version as well as the Unternet version) for their simplicity.

Like, what's the point of having the RR symbol on his shoulders AND on his chest AND on his belt?!?

I've been enjoying the new 52. The list of books I've kept up with from the beginning is pretty small (budget :p), but whenever I get a chance, I go back and pick up some back issues of other series. (Working on Birds of Prey currently)

That was a really cool moment. Also liked the ending with Dick and Damian. Felt just like something from right out their B&R time.

I really hate that forced everything happened in 5 years thing, especially for Batman. Now it looks like he adopted a bunch of his interns rather than people who were under his wing for considerable periods of time. It's just a number thing, but it still irks me to no end.

Is that something worth noting...?

Well, it's funny since a while back Scott Lobdell was talking how Tim wasnt really part of the Bat family proper or something like that, even though there was a photo of him as Robin in TT1 and was in Batman 1.

It shows that if there's a corporate line on the matter, then someone's getting away with ignoring it. It really feels like they kept most of the bat characters around for the sake of having as many spinoffs as possible even though it goes against the compressed timescale thing so hard.

I don't really understand how he was never Robin.

Apparently it was explained he was "just" Red Robin. Which is dumb. But I'll guess we'll all find out with TT #0 next month.

Yeah, it contradicts stuff already in the New 52. It's almost like Lobdell is a hack who decided this on a spur of the moment!

It seems like Bats was active longer than that though.

this is fucking beautiful, man. im doing the library editions for Hellboy, but ive been wanting to get the BPRD ones - what'd this set you back?

User sillymonkey321 was kind enough to point out the current Dark Horse sale at instocktrades.com. Hit it up.

Far be it from me to tell someone how to spend their money but... what if you find you don't like them halfway through?

I started out reading the Library editions of Hellboy and enjoyed them. Very nice collections, but kind of a pain to read. Decided to switch to trades. As dumb as that sounds.

He became Batman at 22, Grayson was Robin at 9. If they made him 20, Bruce could be 33 and there'd be time inbetween - and it would be perfectly fine. Why 5 years for everything?

I think people are confused. JLA/Action comics is five years in the past right? Batman was already established by the time JL #1 began. I haven't been reading JLA but in the first issue Green Lantern says "Batman? You're Real?" Also, Bats had already done his research on Supes. So maybe Bat's was more of a legend/myth until Superman popped up? Do they explain how long he has been Batman in JLA? I don't remember them mentioning it Batman.

Unsure why I never tried the Ultimate Marvel universe before this year, but I'm really enjoying it. I think I can understand why some people might not have liked it at the time, as it does super speed and morph a handful of ideas together very quickly.

It was so promising at first. Especially Ultimate Spider-Man.

Hey guys, it's my brother's birthday and I wanted to buy him some trades as he's interested in reading comics. He's just turned 15. Top of the list is Justice League: Origins but I'm not quite sure what else to buy him. Can I have some recommendations for accessible yet highly commended reads? He did express interest in Daredevil when we went along to Oz Comic-Con a month or so ago, so I had been considering the first trade from Mark Waid.

Edit:
I just asked him what superheroes he likes and he's answered (added some more):

Avengers
Batman
Daredevil
Deadpool
Ghost Rider
Green Lantern
Ironman
Nova
Spider-Man
Wolverine
X-Men

So recommendations for trades from these characters would be greatly appreciated. Keeping in mind he hasn't read comics before and only experience with the characters is via games and film/tv media, I'd prefer recommendations to be as accessible as possible.

Of the DC New 52 Batman titles, what is the general consensus?

What kills me with Marvel is that it's cheaper to do the paper subscription and get the digital for free than it is to buy straight up digital.

Can you guys suggest any good Iron Man trades? I'm realizing that he's one of my favorite Avengers characters but I've never read any of his individual books.

hmm. missed a 99 cent digital Marvel Ultimates sale yesterday (just saw the email now about the one day sale yesterday). The only Marvel I'm following right now is Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider Men. Spider Men was really good, I got a little emotional at one point.

Batman was a fun book, I actually thought
Harper was going to turn out to be a new villain
.

Just saw that Scott Pilgrim Color edition is $10 at comixology... hmmmm....

Hopefully America is good and sick of politics. Hopefully you won’t mind seeing some of the former pillars of society and government come back with some very bad intentions… And by the way, the way these Presidents are drawn – they’re very menacing.

I wonder if the 2.99 on the cover is just for show or if it will really be 2.99 and include a digital copy. Also, entirely bought, at least to give it a try, but Marvel better have an artist lined up for when Moore quickly leaves.

Uncanny Avengers is going from Cassaday to Opena, right? That's a promising trend.

EDIT: Ha, any Bleeding Cool images are somehow blocked on this machine. Smart computers of tomorrow are here...TODAY!

Batman #12 was incredible. First non-Batman Inc DC book I've read in months. Anything else matching this? I'd be interested.

I'd suggest Swamp Thing. That is also written by Snyder and has been top-notch so far. I, Vampire is great too.

I enjoyed the first arc of Wonder Woman but the subsequent arc was kinda stupid. I also really enjoy Catwoman and Supergirl, but that's probably just me. I just think those books characterize their protagonists very well, as opposed to some of the other books where the characters lose their personality after a few issues.

Batman Inc is quite good and is even relevant to the movie. It's worth checking out and is only 2 issues deep.

Ah yeah forgot about that one. But i think you need to read the rest of Morrisons Batman before you dig in to that one

American Vampire: LoN #3

Hobbes being
a crony for Dracula, lol
. Looking forward reading their past history is the next coming issues

Also seeing different types for pre-carpathian vamps is awesome

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot but how many of you have switched to digital? I've been reading The Dark Knight Returns on my iPad but it just doesn't feel right for some odd reason. I guess I've gotten too used to actual physical copies.
