:(

iPhone's current design is perfect. The new iPhone's design almost looks like a step backwards, just compare the bottom of each unit, the new iPhone's non symmetrical bottom looks far worse and less "premium".

Is the new iphone a glass phone ? If its not a glass phone then its a step above the iphone 4.

Symmetry would be important if the two things on the bottom were in any way related. They are not. One is a mic, once is a speaker.

I don't. I think going magsafe for the iPhone would be terrible idea. This isn't a huge laptop sitting on a desk that could be pulled off—it's a small device where at times having a secure connection to a cord is vital.

I've tripped/snagged iPod charging cables, pulling the iPad onto the floor way more often than accidentally pushing the iPod off the table to be saved by the cable like a bungee jumper. MagSafe all the way

The iPhone/iPod is not heavy enough to have the same effect.
The only reason MagSafe works as it does is because Mac laptops have some noticeable heft absent of most of their iOS brethren.

Magsafe for phones would be great.

I'm not fond of the overall phone getting bigger, as I don't enjoy lugging around "big" phones in my front pocket.
Now that I think about it, it does look like it's quite a bit thinner though, so that could possibly be a major plus in that regard.

Now that they've shrunk the dock connector, it looks like a much bigger speaker made it in. Should be crazy loud for a phone.

The people arguing for maintaining the screen size.

What would you see Apple wanna do with the new iPhone?

Also, the people complaining about the new back design, what would you want Apple to do?

It feels like some people, seems to just want to retain the iPhone 4S with a new iPhone 4S+

The design of the 4S is pretty much flawless. Outside the improved dock connecter there really wasn't anything that needed messed with in terms of form factor.

There is a reasoin the MBA hasn't really changed it's form factor at all since the 2008 launch, it's basically the perfect laptop design.

"Their ways?" Meaning a tiny phone is all that makes the iPhone as awesome as it is? I could agree to them offering two sizes, but the iPhone has always been undersized IMO.

I'm liking what I am seeing so far. I hope the internals and camera get boosts too though. Any rumors on the camera?

Those renders look nice. I can't see how people could be against a larger screen without even bothering to hold it in their hands and play around with it, first. I'd wager most people wouldn't want to go back to a smaller device after owning a phone with a 4.x" display. It makes a pretty marked difference to the user experience.

I am concerned about the battery life, unless they have redesigned the processors to be more power efficient I can see the battery life being just as bad as a 4S when in use.

I love how the phone looks, being a little longer is fine to me as the 4 is already rather smallish compared to some smartphones out there.

It won't be wider. Looks like its the photo's perspective. The new phone is closer to the camera because it's taller.

MagSafe kind of thing would be cool. If only so you don't need to properly orient the connector each time.

This. The photo shows the person having it touching the table, then taking a picture from above. Not wider, just taller.

Yeah, I agree with this. Considering how old the 4's design is now as well, it's a testament to that design how well it's held up.

I see the new one as basically a compromise, I think battery concerns is what has driven the taller screen rather than anything else. Design-wise it's a step back, but we'll see what else it has.

Which we don't know yet, because someone who gives half a shit about user experience has yet to make a phone with a 4" screen.

General things like surfing/media consumption are pretty enhanced with a bigger screen, regardless of platform. That's the part of the user experience I was referring to; I didn't feel a need to be more specific, since I figured most people use smartphones primarily for those purposes.

tv out will be nice as it will now actually be widescreen for most things, yes I know some apps had widescreen already but that was added in by the developers :P

No, that has nothing to do with User Experience per se. That's media consumption, which, yes, is better on a big screen.

I don't understand why they just don't admit defeat and use mini or micro USB, this is ridiculously proprietary for no reason...

They can do better than those terrible connectors. Magnetic connection and neutral orientation insertion like MagSafe would be a start.

MagSafe >>>>>> mini-usb. It's a crazy neat feature on Macs, glad to see it come to iOS.

In all honesty mini-usb is a piece of junk compared to magsafe. It isn't even a close comparison.

Apple doesn't just do what's "good enough." They're going to try to embarrass Android tablets. It'll be $199. There's no point in trying to compete if they can't do it on price.

If Asus can hit $199, Apple can even more comfortably with their older tech, old screens, superior supply chain, and better inventory management.

My OG iPad laughs at you.

Apple will stick with their own type of connectors for two reasons, to do what they need it to do and to own the design so they can sell more cables for profit, tons of phone companies did and do this.

I have a question, didn't want to make a new thread, hopefully someone here can help.

Is there anyway to tether a WiFi connection without jailbreaking the iPhone? I can connect my phone to campus internet through WiFi and I want to share that connection with some other devices. Am I SOL?

I don't want just a taller iphone, I want it a little wider also, makes no sense to only increase height

but new docks? fuck, I loved being able to use the same docks for iphone, ipad, ipod...

You'll love being able to do that with the new line-up as well. :P

You rather keep the old dock over a tiny MagSafe magnetic dock the Mac?

It will be a bit wider, at least it looks like it on the latest photo that came out yesterday.

Does anyone have any idea of whether or not we'll be able to keep our current data plans/cell phone bills with the New iPhone? I'm thinking about staying with AT&T because with the stupid new unlimited plans, I would end up paying $25 more a month for my same data limit on Verizon, and frankly because in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area(TM) (I live in Madison, WI), I've actually had a way better experience with AT&T compared to my parents' Verizon, except in very Rural areas.

My concern is, however, is that AT&T is going to force everyone to get a new plan, or at least a new data plan with the new iPhone because of LTE. Is that a legitimate concern, or should I not be worried?
