All it makes me think of is toothpaste.

"His father’s death also provoked the kind of existential soul-searching that most kids don’t undertake until college. “I was, like, ‘What is the meaning?’ ” he said. “I just did lots of reading, lots of introspection. I read everything I could get my hands on.” Like many conservatives, he claims to have been profoundly affected by Ayn Rand. After reading “Atlas Shrugged,” he told me, “I said, ‘Wow, I’ve got to check out this economics thing.’ What I liked about her novels was their devastating indictment of the fatal conceit of socialism, of too much government.” He dived into Friedrich Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, and Milton Friedman."

You don't know that, but you also don't need to visit 'real' America, whatever the fuck that means, to know that politicians are actors, which is the basic assertion here.
"Real" America is something that shouldn't need explaining. It's people like me Stinkles. The good guys.

Here's a photograph of the writer, John Cassidy:

That's EXACTLY how I pictured him.

atleast the five times you've posted it in this thread

btw Ryan voted for that standalone doc fix bill
Did I? It's nice to know people actually pay more attention to me than I do.

heh, i love how this was handled on Finnish evening news (i think it was the most watched news slot). the reporter basically just said "Mitt Romney picked Paul Ryan, who wants to keep the poor down". LOL. and in Finnish it was even worse, if i translated it literally it would be something like "wants to keep the poor kneeling".

usually our news do a really good job of being apolitical, i can't even tell if any of our news shows or even newspapers have a right wing or left wing slant.. but this was hilarious.

it's true though, isn't it? this is the guy whose policies would make the poor even poorer? from what i've read, even catholic nuns seem to hate his guts for being such a soulless prick.

So he's like Batman, if Batman decided that justice required eviscerating social programs.

Why do we fall? So that we can pull ourself up with government aid, until we stand tall enough to remove that aid for others.

It's worse. He wants to bury the poor with steam shovels.

I know you are joking but it's that kind of horse shit that makes politics so stupid. Agree with me or you want to destroy America.
How un-American of you.

It IS stupid.
The biggest problem I have with Ryan is his social conservative votes. He doesn't talk about those issues, but he's WAY to conservative for me. I really wish Republicans would drop that shit. Gay marriage? WTF do you care who gets married? They talk about freedom and choice and government out of our lives, but....
it's getting hard to vote Republican.

I think this guy is HIGHLY uncharismatic.

Obama will be re-elected for sure.

Forgive me, I'm still on my phone an haven't followed everything--has Ryan indicated whether he'll keep his house seat in the event Romney is not elected? If the GOP holds the house but loses the Presidency he'd have a really excellent soapbox for continuing to oppose Obama and raise his personal profile going forward.

Not sure where I read this today, but he's not allowed to abandon the seat this late into the cycle, so he has to run again, at least. And I can't imagine him stepping down if he wins the seat but not the Vice Presidency.

You make that sound like it's a surprising thing for nuns to stand up for the poor.

Nuns are historically the biggest advocates for the downtrodden and less fortunate in the world. They execute on the Catholic mission to help the poor more so than the greater church. For example, Bon Secours hospitals exist exclusively in poor neighborhoods across the world to provide hospital care.

I'm Protestant, but the Catholics do a much better job on acting on the Christian mission to help their fellow man (and woman) than we do.

There's a terrible pedophile joke hidden in here somewhere.

How will Ryan's Catholicism play out with the Protestants? I see people here posting things like 'I'm Christian and my girlfriend is Catholic. What will I do?'. Will a Mormon_Catholic ticket turn them off at all?

Man, a mormon and a catholic doing battle against an atheist, muslim, socialist black dude for the presidency. Crazy times.

I wonder how religious Romney is. I can imagine a conversation between him and Ryan.

Ryan: "Hey so this Joseph Smith guy made up a religion huh?"

Romney: "Blow it up your ass, your denomination is responsible for millions of deaths. Bitch."

Romney was talking in his best Jesse Pinkman voice btw.

This just in: conserative media biased towards conservative candidate.

I wish everyone would stop seriously reporting gaffes as a political event. Yes, its nice to laugh at people jumbling their words. The 57 states of Amercia were both amusing, but to spin them into a big news story is just propoganda. So candidate x screwed up a line: still doesn't effect his policies in any way.

Republicans are going to be grandmasters this election at one of the only things they have been good at the past two decades, essentially flat-out lying to everyone watching them on television. Repubs have a knack for saying how their agendas will benefit everyone and the American taxpayer yadda yadda but never once actually admit the truth of their claims and say 'no, it is actually for the powerful 1%'. McCain did this a lot in his debates and it always pissed me off how every instance wasn't called out, only some of them. Its stuff that sounds really good to your dumbass average American and they think these guys are fighting for them when they go to vote because their brain cannot comprehend that everything they saw them say was actually in reference to a select few elite and did not mean them at all. That';s the only platform Repubs can win on, is dishonesty.

I don't think gaffes should be reported on unless they indicate an actual failure on the part of the politician or candidate to know basic information. Obama clearly doesn't think there are 57 states. The same is true of a great many gaffes announced against right-leaning or conservative candidates. On the other hand, I think Palin's Couric fiasco was actually indicative of someone who didn't have a clue and was in way over her head.

Unfortunately, in a two-party system, there's necessarily going to be a lot of tit-for-tat, and as things are polarized, true believers on either side genuinely believe that intelligent and informed (but incorrect) people on the other side are actual simpletons. In other words, no one is going to concede that the other guy is an intelligent, articulate guy. No one is going to concede that their own guy is occasionally a dullard.

And that leads to the source of a lot of this gotcha stuff. There are people who genuinely and sincerely believe that Barrack Obama is not merely "wrong on the issues", but is actually intellectually dull, not informed about America or the constitution, etc.

It's a pity, because I think we should value articulate and intelligent people across the spectrum, even if we believe that their priorities are dangerous or one or more of their assumptions so fatally flawed that their conclusions are dramatically wrong. I think we ought to reserve accusations of stupidity, or at least of lacking intellectual distinction, to those candidates who are utter disasters.

I guess we expect more precision out of people who have been groomed for years to be president. We expect precision out of our athletes at the Olympics, but can't expect our next president to be able to speak without blunder?

In all honesty its a far more sensible gop ticket than Mccain-Palin. At least the debates will be a bit more intellectual this time hopefully and less "say it ain't so joe *Awink wink*"
