Walmart appears to have select LEGO sets on sale. I don't have a complete list but Helm's Deep is on sale for 90 and Attack on Weathertop is 40. I know not all Walmarts have the same sales so YMMV but worth checking out.

My Walmart has no sale like that, but they do have the entire Friends line clearanced out. The cafe is $21, which is totally worth it.

Oh, and the Quin Jet is clearanced out at $69.97, lol.

My Walmart doesn't even have any indication of sales. Price tags are always offset from the sets themselves and we usually need to go find someone with a scanner gun since we don't have those price-check stations either. Usually always completely cleared out except for the stuff people don't want and the stuff at MSRP. Hell, even the entire Friends line in the pink section is missing.

It makes me so sad sometimes because I've been trying lately and it seems I haven't been putting enough effort into it apparently.

Welcome to the hobby, mirite? :P

No really, remember when Pokemon cards, Crazy Bones, and (more recently) Skylanders were impossible to find? Imagine if they were all the crazy FOREVER - that's like what LEGO is. There will always be a demand, and there will ALWAYS be someone who gets there before you. It sucks, but it's true! Moving on is the only way you won't hate this hobby/addiction.

I read a story (on reddit I think) of a guy who walked into a LEGO store well after the Carrousel had gone OOP. His store had a super beat up box on the bottom shelf for sale, and he got it for a discount. That's SICK, and it drives me nuts that I'll never get that lucky (same with a lucky Taj Mahal find or something), but then I realize I'm still only 25 years old...My collection will grow with the times!

Sometimes they don't have them marked on the shelves and you actually have to scan them to verify. Actually this happens more often then not. I know it's a pain in the ass but I've found many good deals at Walmart like this, including the big Harry Potter castle for 65 bucks.

Yep. The only decent find I got this week was Hagrid's Hut at $21, but I had to find someone with a scanner gun. If we only had those damn terminals, I'd do it myself.

Half the time the worker(s) in the section looks like they have no idea where they're going to put the stuff beyond the collection already going on in a cart or two.

I don't hate it, I just feel disappointed knowing that I'm not there at the right time. However, I don't ever recall the lack of Pokemon cards in my time though. I'm going to venture farther from home next week to Target some 10 miles away (Doesn't sound like far for most Americans but a decent chunk of the time is spent navigating through neighborhoods in areas you're not familiar with because that's how it is down here. ~5 minutes freeway + ~15 minutes neighborhood navigation = 20 minute trip kind of ratio.).

Yea! Thanks for that. Definitely picking up this set but nothing else. I have a full set of DC Direct WoW figures and that'll suit my WoW love nicely. But great pics.

The full set of DC figures? Wow that's awesome. Sorry to go OT but do you have pics of these? I'd love to see them all together. You can shoot me a PM if you do so we keep it out of the LEGO thread.

Did anyone else see the Olympic Recaps on Nintendo Video? I thought they were hilarious. Freakin' Sandy Cheeks in the audience with Darth Vader.

This talk of Star Wars Lego has got me wishing that Lego would hook up with Paramount and do some Star Trek sets. I think a collection of starship bridge dioramas would be cool.

I think they are a hasbro brand? Better quality than megabloks and have a bit more of a system around them. Think they're made by Oxford in Korea which are good quality

Today is the 80th anniversary of The LEGO Group!

lego80th.jpg

How to celebrate:

1) Watch The LEGO Story, a brand new LEGO Group animated film on YouTube.

2) Whip out your old sets and build something! (Also build your unopened sets, you wonderful hoarders you.)

3) Buy a bunch of LEGO sets! Amazon, Target, Toys 'R' Us, you name it! Just buy something! Go to your nearest LEGO Store and get that ginormous set you've always wanted!

C'mon, guys! Celebrate!

Nice video, I kinda wish it went up to current day, apparently during the mid to late 90s lego was looking pretty bad business wise.

Oh man. Grand Emporium for $122.99, packaging damaged, item is in excellent condition. I think I need to reconsider my plans for some of the mid-ranged stuff I have purchased and shelved now and what I wanted to pick up later.

Here we go..

$27 off, just for a damaged box? Might as well go for it!

Man, where do you find a deal like that???

Most likely looking at the "Used" section of Amazon, where they post items with damaged packaging when they have them. I was able to pick up Fire Brigade for $128 due to this. Hasn't arrived yet, but the item was listed the same as above. Since I don't keep the boxes anyway, I don't care if the box is damaged as long as the contents are fine. It's a good idea to periodically check Amazon for the sets you're interested in getting, they will sometimes have good deals like this.

Yeah, I watch Amazon sales/open box, I just wasn't seeing one that cheap, haha. Kudos to you though!!!

Whoa! Robie House is $130 for damaged packaging? Thanks for the information, I will keep looking there in case some Technic popup.

Here's a link directly to Amazon's Warehouse Deals storefront, where all of their open/damaged packaging items are listed, not just LEGO:

Wow! What a deal!

They have Olivia's House used for $17 over MSRP! I must jump on that!

However, they do have a good deal for anyone wanting it:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004P95ABG/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Millenium Falcon for $105

I grabbed the Falcon for the $110 Like New. "Used - Good" supposed to mean it was actually used. Not sure if that means the bags were opened but $5 more to not worry about it.

Thank you Lego GAF. Just got back from Walmart checking clearance. No Helm's Deep for $90, but I did find all of the Friends line on clearance. I got Olivia House for $40, the Cafe for $21, the Lab and Pet Patrol for $7 each, and mini pool for $4.50. All caught up on the major sets I want for the moment.

Holy shit at that Olivia's House price. Tempted to go to Wal Mart now.

I guess now I keep watching for a Fire Brigade to show up. Wallet be damned if the Fury Class Interceptor has a decent price reduction but I can eat the cost of the Republic Striker-class Starfighter.

Edit: Haha, ya'll must've bought them Falcon's up. The 5 that've been there for the last few days are all gone now.

Welp, completely caught up with this thread now. Started at page 1 about a week ago but it was a very nostalgic blast from the past. What do I do now?

Also, besides for Fire Brigade being a must get, what should I look for after that?

What sort of themes do you like? Modulars, Star Wars, etc

Oh whoops, I should rephrase that. Which modular sets should I be looking out for beyond Fire Brigade? I already have GE ordered but feel I like the mini-modulars a lot more for some reason although you still need a nice collection of pieces to build anything because nothing equates to only ideas. Beyond that, I've talked myself out of the Fury-class Interceptor unless I can get it for under $50.

I like the medieval stuff such as the MMV I have sitting in the closet although I'm not all that hot for the LoTR stuff currently out. Hmm.

Once you have GE, Pet Shop would be next, but you've got time on that. MMV is a great buy, and I'm sure it's getting close to the end of its life. That's about it for buildings...There are some other great large sets out there, but Tower Bridge is the only one I can think of that has been out for a while.

I'm thinking it should go:
Fire Brigade
Grand Emporium
Pet shop
Town Hall

Sweet, my son's Minecraft set shipped. He will have a good Xmas. :)

Glad to hear other people are having good luck with the wal-mart clearance.
