Xenosaga Episode III (Official NA website updated)

Wow, awesome music. I hope this game at least lives up to the hype so that Xenosaga can go out with decency.

Xenosaga Episode III comes out in a week and a half, and IMO it can't come soon enough! Can't wait :D!

Sounds like it's the best of the three, hope it lives up to the hype. Anyone know if the fighting's more like I or II's? Loved the thinking in II's, but major flaws, yatta yatta. And **** that mini game, let's hope III is fleshed out a bit.

Ten days until release, the same day that Rule of Rose. Pre-order done. I hope it isn't shit like Xenosaga II.

Will the pre-orders receive some bonus?

Yeah, the soundtrack is really, really good in my opinion. Its strong overall I guess, which is something the Episode 2 soundtrack lacked. When the songs on the Episode 2 OST were good, they were really good, but they were few and far inbetween. Not sure how well the OST is used in game for Episode 3, but on its own its pretty damn good.

If you pre-ordered from gamestop/ebgames you will recieve an artbook. There are some different pre-order bonuses from other places, but I dont remember them.

You get an art book if you preorder from gamestop/EB, you get a life size T-elos poster if you preorder from Gamecrazy, and you get the lenticular cover if you preorder from Bestbuy.

I pre-ordered in VG+ since I live in Europe, so then nothing for me.

I wish they'd release a Xenosaga II DVD with all the movies from it, just like they did with the first one. I just couldn't get through XSII as it was too boring and dull.

Yeah, it's ashame that they didn't give you the option to adjust the volume of the effects and the music separately.

Neither. Episode III has a more generic battle system than the other two did. Button combos are gone. Now, you just have a simple Attack option. You have Techs you can use that use EP and Special attacks that use the Boost Gauge.

So, this sounds like it's actually a good game... Should I buy it even though I skipped out on Xenosaga Episode 2? How hard is it to understand the story?

Ep3 comes with a text summary of Ep1/Ep2/Pied Piper/1 year gap. So you'll be fine and if you've played ep1 until the end you should definitely play ep3 since it wraps up all of ep1s plotlines.

Xenosaga II was a really short RPG. About 20-25 hours if you ignore the side-quests (which I recommend ignoring).

Cool. Thanks for the information.

The US site is also putting Missing Year in a couple of weeks.

but i thought xenogears saga was Squaresofts

Yes, Xenogears copyright are owned by Squaresoft. The game was developed by the team that later became Monolith. Monolith can't use Xenosaga's names so they created a new universe.

No it doesn't.

I donÂ’t mean Xenosaga Episode I, II and III as separate Episodes fit into Perfect Works. I mean all three as a single Episode could fit in the Episode I scenario set in Perfect Works.... All IÂ’m saying is that Takahashi at the very least was inspired by it... =P

Sure he was inspired by ideas he had planned for it, but the Xenosaga ep1-3 story is radically different and by the end has nothing to do with the Perfect Works Ep1 and could never ever become the story that was in Perfect Works.

No it couldn't. There is enough that shows that it isn't Xenogears. Obviously the core story is based off of Xenogears Episode I, but by the end of Episode III, it's completely different.

By the end? The only part I have yet to see. :(

I have a feeling Episode III is going to crush some people's feelings.

Eh, nah, I'm sure they'll keep finding increasingly elaborate way to rationalize XS as part of the Xenogears story ;)

I sort of wish people would learn to see XS as a seperate series. Too much wishful thinking in terms of wanting it to fully relate to XG or Perfect Works. I'm just glad they decided to continue with the games at all.

I suppose my main hope is that Takahashi and Saga somehow find a way to keep working together and keep the universe going on a next gen platform. Maybe they'll go back to Square and fill in the gaps to the XG universe.

No, this series needs to end, and this is it. Going back to XG is unlikely given that the whole reason he left Square is because they stopped the true prequel. Takahashi is hopefully doing something new.

Is Takahashi even still with Namco? I remember hearing they took him off XG series after 2. Is he working on something or did he get Matsunowned?

He was actually heavily involved in Ep3 though he didn't write the game script or direct anything.

Probably one of the main reasons why Ep3 turned out fairly well.

You are winning by not having to play Episode II. The summary in Episode III is excellent and short. Episode II is horrible, and also short.

Man, I thought Episode II was a solid game... definitely something I enjoyed more then Episode I. Mainly because I always wanted Xenosaga to offer much more gameplay.

Can't come soon enough. This "Xenosaga will turn into Xenogears" rabid, blind faith from the XG fans has been annoying as hell since day one.

Takahashi: "Oh, you'll see some themes carry over and nods to Xenogears, but the two aren't story-related."

Fans: "Oh, you!"

Oh, you!

I'll figure a way they link and have a 4 paragraph thread on GAF the next day :p

Not that I really care in the end. But it's pretty stupid to just blatantly ignore things that are obviously a little more then coincidental. . If Takahashi had been able to work within his budget and time frame (and had someone actually design a game) there would be six games and most like a re-telling of Xenogears (Probably the way we wanted to tell it originally) as one of them.
