Republican Senate Nominee: Victims Of ‘Legitimate Rape’ Don’t Get Pregnant

That statement is hilarious.

He doesn't even address the main issue of apparently having no idea how women get pregnant.

Knowing about womens' naughty bits is for comunists and scientists. The only thing I need to know about women is where to put my penis and where to slap her when I want her to know her place.

Women don't get pregnant, sluts get pregnant, duh.

Sluts are also the ones who don't get pregnant cos of contraception that lets them fuck anything like the whores all women would be without men to tell them what to do.

He has probably never put it in himself.

Lets hope his lead in the polls disappears.

Judging by the state of discourse at the moment, my money is on him getting a boost from this. There needs to be some kind of test you need to take before you can run for office, I mean you need to take one to get a government job why not before you run?

I don't know what I prefer -- Akin dropping out, causing momentary chaos but with the potential for a stronger candidate to replace him, or for him to stay in, have all of his funding dry up, and hopefully lose.

I'd just like to take a moment to thank the tea party for their ignorance. Thanks for electing these assholes, assholes.

Believe me, I've been around enough conservative women to know that they blame the rape victim 99% of the time. They have a laundry list of reasons as to why someone is blamed for rape. Main reasoning is "I haven't been raped, hence everyone who has is a slut or was in an immoral situation".

I don't know what my emotional response would be if this actually happened to someone that's so sure it's the victim's fault. I mean, I'm sure they'll turn around and say this is the 1% where it wasn't the victim, and that they'll say "this is a gift from God" or something when they have to keep the baby.

I literally would not have eaten lunch for the past ~6 or so years if that program didn't exist.

Same for me when I was in school. For us though we had actual reusable tickets that we had to give the cashier. Every morning in home room we'd be called up to reclaim our tickets. It was humiliating.

You know you're the most batshit person in the room when other batshit conservatives are all "whoa dude hold up."

Every sane conservative I know is pretty ashamed of the Republican party. They keep their views completely to themselves, and basically never say anything about politics. Stealth Republicans.

I feel pretty bad for them, I was more conservative/moderate growing up... If their party could somehow kick out all the fucking morons, we'd have a better 2-party system... At least both sides would be sane.

He only has until Tuesday to drop out for the GOP to be able to replace him, otherwise they're stuck with him.

In the 2000 election, Democratic challenger Mel Carnahan defeated John Ashcroft in spite of dying a few weeks earlier.

Eh...in fairness Reihan Salaam and Ramesh Pnooru are extremely level headed right wingers, not of the tea party persuasion.

In other words, RINOS.

So what does he do? Do they just try to bide it out? Without that seat, it's almost impossible for them to win back the Senate.

GOP Healthcare plan: Don't get sick and die if you do.
GOP Economy Plan: Fuck you I got mine. But vote for us!
GOP Rape prevention/Women's rights: Don't be a woman.

I remember hearing this bullshit in college. Is some southern church spreading this bullshit that women can just will pregnancy away?

Well it certainly doesn't sound like he's sorry.

And yeah if Republicans don't win Missouri their Senate calculus is fucked. Same with North Dakota and Montana, which both look favorable for the Democrats.

These kinds of people do not understand what science is. They believe that if they have an opinion that enough people agree with, it becomes scientific fact.

They also tend to try to force schools to stop teaching actual science.

Slut shaming, unavailable clinics, demonizing abortion, lack of education and the idea that a non-person with "potential" is more important than the desires of the woman carrying it.

This is one of the reasons I have a hard time being civil when talking about the Republican party. Not that this kind of shit is a purely partisan thing, but it's basically codified into their platform and appeal for support.

Basic biology: evidently no longer a requirement to get into a Senate election. As I said in the "An Ohio Election Board Member is racist" thread: America, get your politicians into order. Seriously now. I realise most politicians are bad, but crazy American politicians (mainly from the Republican side) takes the biscuit.

It's just insane. Even if you aren't scientific, it's against any whimper of rational thought.

It's like saying that if a man gets raped by a man with AIDS that he will only get HIV if it's legitimate rape. Insanity.

After all, Republicans frown upon late term abortion of candidacies.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread but I believe the opposite is the case.

And this is why I want to slap the shit out of people who say they wont vote because both parties are the same.

I dont know how anyone could support this party when a good portion support this guys position.

A truly disgusting comment. Brian Buetler brought it to its deserved level of absurdity:

Oh yeah. You "misspoke" you prick.

"As a member of Congress, I believe that working to protect the most vulnerable in our society is one of my most important responsibilities, and that includes protecting both the unborn and victims of sexual assault. In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year. Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in our society and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve.

"I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election.

"But I also believe that this election is about a wide range of very important issues, starting with the economy and the type of country we will be leaving our children and grandchildren. We've had 42 straight months of unacceptably high unemployment, trillion-dollar deficits, and Democratic leaders in Washington who are focused on growing government, instead of jobs. That is my primary focus in this campaign and while there are those who want to distract from that, knowing they cannot defend the Democrats' failed economic record of the last four years, that will continue to be my focus in the months ahead."

Edit: Oh. Beaten.
