He said "barrier to entry". If you're bad at Marvel, you don't even get to play.

Barrier to entry means low level play, and I'm assuming you're gonna play against low level play like you and not Chris G, if that were the case, you're not gonna get to play against a good Akuma, Seth or Viper either.

lol @ passive aggressive jab.

I think that Marvel is intimidating to a lot of people just because there's so much chaos. Not everybody, but low level players (like me ;)) can play it through footsies rather than execution (not the say that Marvel doesn't have footsies, but it has footsies that people aren't accustomed to).

When I said "like you" I mean the imaginary low level player not actually you, sorry if you took it that way.

Marvel has way less execution requirement to be competitive than SF4.

However Marvel requires a different set of additional skills than SF4 that greatly increase its barrier of entry. Execution is just one part of the barrier.

Umm.. what ?

Marvel 3 has the easiest hit conforms you can find today and you don't have to worry about 1 frame links to do damage.

This. If you know the basics of SF you can rely on reads/footsies/etc and do decent damage with basic combos. In Marvel, though, you're just going to get torn a new one by players with the reaction speeds and difficult-to-react to tactics (Hi Zero!) that make up higher level Marvel play.

Gotcha. Maybe I defensively read too much into it.

They're just different, and each game is intimidating to different types of players from the very beginning. There's very little question that SFIV execution requirements at high level play is much higher than Marvel.

There are only like 5 or 6 players who can be reasonably consistent in Marvel. "High barrier to entry." Yeah. That's what it's called.

Pretty much like MVC2. Get that 1 hit kill, mix up next character 1 hit kill, mix up last character 1 hit kill. It takes skill and execution, but it's pretty brain dead. It's a shame MVC3 evolved into that.

VF5 on stream now, I haven't really watched American high level play with it yet. Looks like they're catching up just fine to Japan.
