I always assumed the third-party/first-party divide essentially amounted to who was publishing - but I guess it's open to interpretation.

If a platform holder is footing the bill, generally (but not always I guess) they expect exclusivity and build it into contractual arrangements.

This as opposed to third-party exclusivity at the third party publisher's own will - for example Yakuza games.

Sony owns the Heavy Rain IP. They will probably own the "Beyond: Two Souls" IP aswell. (probably a 110% chance that they do.) Just like they own Ratchet & Clank, and loads of other "second party" games.

Without Mikami I think Vanquish 2 is kind of a moot point. Besides it doesn't really need a sequel, it was a complete package as it was.

I think it would be better if they just kept a close working relationship with Platinum remaining independent. Given Kamiya and co.'s history with Capcom as Clover I imagine they'd be more comfortable that way too.

They don't need to be internal to work on Nintendo franchises after all. Look at Next Level Games.
