WOW.

So many amazing creations put out there! And I'm very impressed with the NeoGAF train. VERY cool!

And my little contribution here - if you have any interest in buildings and Architecture, find a way to get your hands on the Robbie House. I swear, this is such an incredible and classic build/design. It is easily the best of the Architecture sets.

So recent damage:

On Wednesday I bought these for the wife (she's been fiending for the house):
x0rH1.jpg

She seemed to enjoy the plane build, she hasn't done the house yet. Then on Friday I bought these for myself, since I had largely written off buying the SSD at this time:

JcVHQ.jpg

The Republic Strike-Fighter was a great build and set, highly recommended. I'd been eyeing the Cool Car for a while, and that was a fantastic buy. It's a great cost per piece ratio, I went for the car build on the cover there and it was an awesome build and display. Probably my only complaint about it is I'm not super thrilled with the windshield, or the lack thereof. Other than that though it's amazing. My wife built the Log Cabin, and I haven't built the other two sets yet.

Then this morning I bought these two at TRU as part of the sale:

IxXN2.jpg

These were the only two sets I saw that I was interested in that didn't have base prices above retail, so it was actually a sale. I thought about picking up the Seaside House and the LotR Weathertop set, but with TRU's prices it would have worked out about the same as retail and I'm in no huge rush on those. While we were there though we found out about the huge Friends Summerhome (?) set, which my wife wants hardcore now. Their price was "only" $10 over retail, if the Friends sets had been part of the TRU sale we probably would have picked it up but we'll wait on that.

Then on Tuesday we have the SSD coming for me, and Fire Brigade and Pet Shop coming for her as a result of the Amazon sale. Good times! For people who have done the SSD, how long would you say it takes? Also I don't think I'd do this on my first go-round with it, but has anyone dared to mix all the bags/pieces on that one before building? I'm kinda tempted to do that initially, but that seems dangerous, and as-is I'm already not sure where I'm going to even put this thing.

Me and the wife were looking at that one, and it's awesome but like all of the Architecture sets it seems pricey. It's a lot of pieces (2,276) for the cost ($200), but they're all super tiny pieces -_-. Amazon actually has it on sale right now for $148 which is a pretty good discount, but even at that price we're kinda ehhhh on it.

I wouldn't play $200, but I paid somewhere between $120-150 (I can't remember honestly), and it was worth it. The size and beauty of it make it worth it as a display piece for sure.

Yeah, looking at the box in-person it looks fantastic. For $120 I think we would definitely bite, $150 is just pushing that a bit though.

A new inverted tile element! Finally!

That new tile is a great step in the right direction. I wonder how long it will take to be able to get a good number of them though as it looks like there's possibly only 2 in that set.

Also just read confirmation on the Brickset forum that we UK'ers will get double VIP among other treats in October.

Double VIP Points Month. Valid: 1-31st Oct

FREE TC-14 Minifigure with LEGO® Star Wars™ purchase of £50 or more. Valid: 1-31st Oct or while supplies last.

FREE Delivery on orders of £50 or more. Valid: 16-31st Oct

10227 – B-Wing Starfighter™ Now Available!

10229 – Winter Village Cottage Now Available!

FREE birthday cake, but only when ordered via AFOL sites and not available in store.

I was on the fence for when I would get the B-wing but now I'm hitting Stratford on the (not very direct) way home after work.

Kmart's doing a 50% off clearance toy sale this week. Went in and bought a couple things. There's nothing as amazing as the QAR from last time, as most of the things are only on clearance for a dollar or so off their original price, but that still makes all the clearance stuff just a bit over 50% off. Got the TIE Fighter for $28.50 plus tax. Also got one each of those little mini fighters with the planets for $5 each. Saw the green and yellow bounty hunter ship (forgot the name) which would have been around $25ish.

I appended some minifigures to an amazon order. Got a series 7 figure that was up with free shipping and 2 series 5 ones through the add-on program.

I should feel bad about buying shit I don't need but at least I can argue the microloading plates are a health and fitness purchase, haha.

Always be sure to check things under a price scanner. Sometimes they don't ticket things, although it's also possible they got cleaned out already. I know some of the other things I saw included some of the dinosaur hunter ones, a couple of the smaller City set, including the smaller version of the space shuttle, and some various bagged Bionicles.

Another BN around here still had two of the Earth Defense Force HQ sets on clearance. I think some stores are still pulling stuff out of the back rooms as the sale goes on, so your mileage may vary.

No luck at Wal Mart with any clearance stuff here. Everything is full price. :(

EDIT: And called it! TRU got sneaky with their B1G1 40% off sale. Most large sets and things like Winter Village are not included because they just auto throw in the vintage figure pack instead. The TRU duplicity continues.

I did check prices just in case, no go. I've NEVER seen any Lego sets at all on clearance at this Kmart, they seem to keep Lego sets well in-stock.

Did your display cases make it out in one piece?

I remember this modular from that recent Eurobricks modular MOC contest...

They're still on display for another day so only time will tell, I was more concerned about someone stealing them as they'd be quite easy to pick up and run off with. There's a rope barrier around the whole thing though.

That's my modular, it wasn't in the competition but it's on my flickr and on Cuusoo

This picture makes it look like Hulk is bulging out the (plexi?)glass! If so that's awesome, you should try to position his hands up against it!

This one makes me very sad that I missed out on all the modulars before Fire Brigade :-(. What a cool looking display with all of them hooked up. Even if I currently don't have the space to display them like that, I still really wish I had them for display when I move into a larger place.

Seriously, awesome picks (and displays) Brent! I'm assuming you had a good time at the convention?

Also, That new train looks awesome and it's weird that I want it, considering I'm not into trains at all, and haven't really been interested in any of the other LEGO trains before. Then again, the SSD has made me re-consider a lot of the Star Wars ships I said I wasn't interested in before as well...damnit.

Yeah I had to use perspex for the hulk one as he's too deep to fit in with the standard glass, that's why it's bulging out, it's also why his hands aren't up as they'd stick out even further.

I haven't really had a lot of time to take a good look at everything closely as I'm involved in the expo and my time there was mainly spent talking to people and taking photos. I'm gonna go back today before they finish up with some different lenses to get some close ups on all of the small details.

Forgive me, LEGO-GAF, for I have sinned. A few days ago, I was at Zellers, one of the ones that has yet to be converted to a Wal-Mart or Target. And they had these tables... oh the tables. They were adorned with things of vile temptation... toys. I approached these tables, tempted by their siren call. Transcribed upon them were promises of 40% off. Where once, one could trade 5 chickens in exchange for these idols, one now need only trade 3 chickens for the same idol. The temptation was too great. Giving in to my weakness, I purchased a false idol, normally costing 45 bales of hay, but now costing me a mere 27 bales of hay. This false idol, I regret to confess here to you all today, was the vile off-shoot sect known as MEGA BLOKS. Specifically, 'twas the Halo Wars UNSC Gausshog vs Covenant Locust 480 piece set. Forgive me, LEGO-GAF, for I knew not what I did. Can you find it within your hearts to forgive my transgressions?

Wait until you build 'em, then you will regret it. Ain't nuttin' that compares to LEGOs.

Yup.

I bought a little Nano-block building earlier this year (love the size and price per brick) and the quality wasn't anywhere near what LEGO is. The build itself wasn't really fun at all either. You built it layer by layer, so there weren't any interesting techniques or anything.

I'm a fan of the game, and this brick-built is fantastic!

Cheers, dude!

How is the rainbow here curved? I don't get it. Is it just because it's tall enough that the 1x2 bricks start losing their straightness due to microscopic gaps that exists between them?

Got the two sides to my hill for the Haunted House built. Added a lil pond next to the house for some foul creatures to hang around. Got the base of the perimeter wall built as well. Now to just find enough bricks to actually get the wall higher. I should have this puppy done by Tuesday night, and I can't wait to show it off. Am going to wait until it is done instead of doing work in progress shots.

Saw World of Warcraft Mega Bollox or whatever they're called at Target this weekend. So depressing. WHY CAN'T THEY BE LEGO?

Yup, it's sad that LEGO didn't get that license. But, I get the feeling that they didn't fight for it at all. It doesn't really seem in line with their sort of "themes" to pursue.

While I couldn't really give two poos about Warcraft, the Halo universe is one that I would have loved to have seen Lego run rampant in; and I don't even like Halo that much.

Hey lego gaf, everyone has been helpful and informative so thank you.

Ive always wanted to do a christmas village and just ordered the Winter post office and bakery from amazon. Im sad the toy shop is not available and no I wont pay the triple price for it from third party sellers. Im going to get the new Winter cottage just released and had couple questions.

Is there anything i should know or do as first time buyer from lego.com?

Since the set is $100 should i wait for a particular month to get any promotions or free figs?

Also are their anymore christmas themed exclusives i should wait for and order all together to save on shipping?

If i wait do i take a chance on the cottage selling out?

I really want the Santa Claus minifig to go with this, is their anyway to tell what is in the blind packs? I tried felling all the packs for his bag or hat and got dirty looks from a walmart worker and couple mothers walking by. Still ended up with robot and conquistador.

Finally, any available sets rhat may compliment my christmas display? An extra bakery slightly changed or maybe Mines of Moria?

Thanks again and will post pics if you all want see them.

hm, kinda disappointing, I will still get it though, as it is my favourite SW ship of all times.
hopefully by the time I get round to it there will be a few mods out there.

but one thing really strikes me as odd, why only include 3 of the round orange stickers? that seems really silly.
I mean I have no intention of using them one way or the other but still it seems strange.
also a quick question the cockpit glass is printed right?!

Have you seen how terrible the new Hobbit action figures are? Man... so bad. I miss toybiz.

At least I can count on LEGO to make something I know I'll love! I have every LotR set and I won't be passing on any of these, either

Can't wait to see what the LEGO Goblin King looks like... because he is REALLY BIG in the movie, easily as big as a cave troll

yeah there's enough tolerance in the bricks that over a large distance they can bend.

Sign up for VIP at lego.com. October (today) is Double VIP which means you get twice as many points for your purchase. Add up points for $ off future purchases.

Will the actual retail Lego stores have the B-Wing in stock today and on shelves or they take a bit to get the stuff up in store? It's a bit of a drive but thinking of stopping by after work to get one.

Ugh, I'm in a situation with this Double VIP.

I could grab the Death Star at $400. I'm thinking this may be the best option as it NEVER goes on sale nor does it pop up on Amazon Warehouse. This also equates to 800 VIP points, bringing my total up to 1218.

I could also grab some other sets that total UP to that much (since I'm going to spend that much anyways). I missed out on the great deals last week at Walmart as I wasn't sure I was going to have the money to spend. Turns out, I sold something yesterday that I've been holding onto that gives me enough money to get my LEGO stuff I want (yay selling old stuff!). I missed out on super deals, but I also didn't spend money I didn't have, haha.

Anyways, I can't decide how to go about this. It's not uncommon to see the modulars pop up on Warehouse, and Pet Shop and Town Hall have a while to go. Tower Bridge is really close to going away, but so is the Death Star. Tower Bridge provides some great MOC stuff, whereas the Death Star has a LOT of gray. Given my lack of interest in Star Wars in general, the purpose of the Death Star would be two-fold...Owning a set that is an icon in the LEGO Star Wars regime and also owning a set that's GUARANTEED to go up in value.

So LEGO GAF, help me out here. Tower Bridge + something else to equal about $400 or Death Star? I by sets for display/MOC pieces, so that will be a contributing factor. Bone, as much as I know you LOVE the Death Star, your input is still welcome. ;)

mrklaw

MrArseFace
get the death star. You've waited for double points, seems silly to ignore it now.

Tower Bridge would be something I'd keep an eye out for a warehouse deal etc though..

Read more of their reviews. They are not impressed with much. Like I said about them earlier: it's like they are too critical and trying too hard.

And Nicoga: Death Star all the way. You saved up for it, so get it. Tower Bridge is better for MOC, but it is easier to save up for a $240 set later than it is a $400 set. Both sets are amazing, but Death Star is a bigger bullet to bite. If you have the means, plunge in.
