Who doesn't own a Nintendo DS yet and why?

I care about gamingn console gaming. I just don't like playing games on portables. the screens are to small for me to see. The DS has a few games that are good, but not enough to make me want to strain my eyes. Alot of the Nintendo Franchise ( Besides New Super Mario Brothers, and that stupid Nintendogs) are on the Gamecube in some form.

I was going to say someone who takes videogames WAY too serioulsy, but your answer works too.

I don't. I have a lot of respect for it, but I don't own any modern portable gaming system. I just have no interest in them at this poinht in my life, and can find more enjoyment doing other things with my time. Then again- I don't think I fit the category of a 'gamer' anymore. Haven't touched a game for months. Infinitely more interested in the industry itself for some reason, and I will play the next Zelda from start to finish. Other than that, its not even a hobby to me anymore.

I love my DS, but it's basically my Castlevania: DoS machine. I have a number of games, but that's all I play.

Yeah, I have a DS as well but knowing what I know now about how the system would turn out I would have had no objections with holding off until now. I have, like, 6 games I really like on the system after all this time (Advance Wars DS, Sonic Rush, Castlevania: DoS, New! Super Mario Bros., Kirby: Canvas Curse and Mario&Luigi 2). Megaman ZX and Castlevania: PoR should change that though :D

I noticed a couple of people here share my opinion. . it's the one about handheld games being inferiorto console games.

I thought this for the longest of times - even GB games rarely held up to NES, despite similarities.. GBC didn't change anything for me.

While the GBA got me to look in that direction for a minute, my interest was ultimately lost when not enough RPGs managed while I was paying attention.

The DS though, whoa now.. that got my attention and has held it. Games like Phoenix Wright own me up and down and all around (wow..). I can't help but love it.

My three friends all managed to own DSes, and my girlfriend has one too. That makes for some killer 5 player sessions of Bomberman (best since Saturn Bomberman in that sense) and Big Brain Academy.... etc!

I want one (for Contact, NSMB, FFIII) but nobody wants to buy my PSP...

I actually bought a DS at launch but sold it so I could afford a JAP PSP - oh, how ironic... :(

There is still a lack of adult-friendly games. So far Nintendo has refused to bring a majority of the Touch Generation games to the US. I think that is a pretty good reason to hold off on the system.

So true...

That's a pretty dumb statement. There have been plenty of posts in this thread indicating why people would not own one, not that lack of ownership needs any justification.

I don't own one because hand held games have never been able to keep my attention the way console games have. Even my gba emulator has a bunch of roms that I usually only play once. Only reason I'm getting a black one is cause stupid Ipod died on me and this is a cheap alternative while I wait for it to get fixed :(.

Spending quite some time in the public transportations every day (~2h total), I needed either a lot of books or a good handheld.

The DS seemed to have interresting games, and above all two (overlapping) categories of original games and games that you could just pick&forget (open the DS, play for 5-10mn then put it down).

Started with NSMB, Kirby, Meteos, Phoenix Wright and Mario&Luigi: Partners in Time in the first batch...

All frigging awesome but M&L, which is a huge piece of crap (except that it's not even huge, 15 hours or so to get done with an ARPG is an infamy). Then went to Advance Wars DS (awesome, I don't play it that much though) and Castlevania, and I very recently discovered Otsu! Tatakae! Ouendan!

The latter is the best game ever. Bar none.

Oh yeah, MKDS is nice in multiplayer too. Average in single-player.

Right now, I'm trying to get hold of Age of Kings (heard it was even better than advance wars) and eagerly waiting for Yoshi's Island 2, the new Castlevania and the ARPGs that should be released by the end of the year.

Don't have the money yet. As with the Wonderswan Color, an FF is what sold me on trying to get the system. Still not a fan of using the pen, though.

haha, wow. i love some of the replies here

"because i hate shitty games"

"because i have taste"

do you guys lie to yourselves alot?

I don't have one because I'm not a huge fan of Nintendo's first party offerings. My Girlfriend has one, but the only game she plays is Brain Training. I might get one next year.

I don't own a DS for two reasons.

1 - I swore never to buy Nintendo hardware ever again after getting seriously burned on the GC & GBA.

2 - I can only devote so much attention to gaming these days and the console I game on now is more than enough for me.

I recognize that the DS is a decent console with good games and I was seriously tempted when the LITE was announced but I just can't bring myself to trust Nintendo again.

Because there aren't any games that make me say "wow, i want to play that, that looks fun" with the exception so far of Ouendan and Phoenix Wright. With FFIII and that WWII online strat game coming out this fall, I might crack. But even then I'll only be playing a few games on it. Get much more enjoyment out of the PSP. There. I said it.

I don't have one yet but I do want one. I just don't play portable games that much when I'm at home, and I still have a backlog of GBA titles, so it hasn't seemed like the "right time" to invest in a DS yet.
