So, the Avengers are charging the Xmen with the "crimes" that they had committed while under the influence of the Phoenix, even though it is their fault that they were even possessed? Why not charge Wanda with all the fucked up things she did, too? They made excuses for her but they want to hold the Xmen accountable? Really??

Members of The Avengers created Ultron, committed genocide on the mutant race and are now prosecuting mutants for what was ultimately done by their own hands. Cool.

I remember reading an issue of Ms Marvel where Carol is talking to Tony about how being an Avenger you get second chances and how they look after their own. I put it down to that. It's funny because i'm pretty sure this was during Civil War as well.

The problem with this is that what the X-Men did under the influence of the Phoenix is something for which they are still responsible for, and something which they KNEW they would be responsible for. When Jean was first Phoenix, she was credited for saving the universe by healing the neutron Galaxy in the M'Kraan crystal. She was also rightly held responsible for what she had done as Dark Phoenix not long after. Scott and Emma have been around long enough that there's no way they couldn't have known that people who use the Phoenix would still be in control of their actions, or at least accountable for them. Jean even has to build homes for the spirits of the dead as part of her penance.

Scott and Emma conspired to force the Phoenix on a teenager who is younger than Jean was when it first came to her. There is no way that Scott, short of pleading insanity PRIOR to all of this, could possibly not have realized that there was a huge and very real risk that Hope would go Dark Phoenix and royally ruin things. For that alone he deserves punishment. That he then took the Phoenix power and used it to wreck stuff BEFORE he went Dark Phoenix is further reason for him to be punished, remember that Jean only claimed she couldn't control or handle the Phoenix after she had become the Dark Phoenix and blown a man's mind to pieces and devoured a sun.

So basically, while Wanda was suffering from a mental breakdown when she rewrote reality, there is no real defense for what Scott and Emma did prior to Scott going Dark Phoenix. Because Jean was in perfect control of her decisions until that point, and took responsibility for the ones after it as well.

Denying the Phoenix is one of the problems she had during Inferno, iirc.

Usually, in a relationship, the Phoenix is submissive to the person hosting it.

Wat.

Are you saying Wanda murdered the mutant race by turning off the x-gene.

The definition of genocide is more than just murder. She made it so mutants couldn't have babies anymore (eventually would have killed off the species), so that's part of the genocide definition.

You are correct.

I remember the whole thing with Beast and the Endangered Species arc.
I take back my statement.

I think Cyclops will need a redemption arc before he accepted as the leader of the X-Men again. These usually turn out good, I want Gillen on it.

You mean mutant babies, right?

And I wish someone other than dark beast would examine the guthries. There's gotta be something in the water down there for the amount of mutants two humans can birth.

I don't think scott would join up with them. Why is magneto on the run?

I figure Mags isn't exactly in a rush to be all buddy-buddy with the Avengers after the way they treated mutants.

Now as for why he's wanted?....Yeah that doesn't make any sense.

Mags was the owner of asteroid m. He's no one to judge on treating mutants.

I think he is only wanted for questioning (like the other P.E.N.I.S who are still on the run), but given that he is who he is, he probably feels it is better to lay low than to risk the mercy of a system he considers biased against him.

Also, Magneto might be like those racists who tolerate other races as long as there is no miscegenation. Maybe he was a hero just because Utopia seemed to him like a more successful version of asteroid M; a place that could even fight back against humans if necessary. I'm not sure how any of this paragraph holds up, but if that is the case, he might see the uncanny avengers as a retrocess; as mutants depending on the good will of humans in order to be accepted.

Speaking of X-Men, I know people here loves Claremont, but how is his run with Jim Lee? I noticed that there are two omnibus of that phase and I believe that's when I started reading comics as a kid, but it's all a blurry of "blue team is the cool guys; gold team are the boring guys" (tho I would probably disagree with my 10 years old self)

Here's what Tom Brevoort says:
He was one of the last people standing among the Phoenix Five, even to the end.

In that last fight, he called Professor X in, he helped the Avengers get in, but before that he was really the right-hand man of Cyclops, and by extension the Phoenix Five, all through the course of AvX.

That'll become a little clearer as we get into Consequences and we get into All-New X-Men and the newer books that are coming out. Some of that is simply, "He's Magneto."

For all that he's been walking a penitent-at-best road these last few years, that's really in context to the X-Men.

I don't know that the rest of the world has accepted him as a nice, good guy, and now that the X-Men are no longer there in that way, there is no Utopia for him to chill out on without having a problem. He's back to being Magneto out in the world on his own, or out in the world in concert with the other mutants that he had these strong alliances with.

You mean mutant babies, right?

There's only 2 mutants left in that family :( I wonder if the dad was a secret mutant.

So does this mean that the people of Earth are FINALLY justified in their hatred and fear of mutants? I mean, when they didn't know that Jean had gone God Mode and eaten a sun it didn't make much sense, but I would seriously have a hard time trusting mutantkind following the revelation that they have known about this kind of danger since Scott and Jean were young, and that Xavier has been actively covering things like this up for years.

Thats..a really good point actually. But its not like harboring things that could kill everything is exclusive to mutants.

halfway through Miracle Man, finally...goddamn, this book was years ahead of the medium.

That kid miracleman arc something else. I kinda wanted the sentry to out in that fashion. I mean he did, but more of the stuff before the end.

True, but questioning the point of Civil War is something I want to avoid so hard right now.

There's also the question of whether or not these recent spectacular slip-ups on the part of the X-Men outweigh the past good they've done.

In the eyes of the Shi'ar of course they do! Jean saves the universe, then blows up 1 star. Lilandra is all "Oh no bro she is now too powerful and has to be killed!"

TRUTH BOMB: LILANDRA WANTED TO KILL JEAN BECAUSE SHE KNEW ABOUT XAVIER'S FEELINGS FOR HER. SHE SENT THE DEATH COMMANDOS OUT OF A MISTAKEN BELIEF THAT ALL RED-HEADED HUMANS ARE RELATED TO JEAN GREY.

Wouldn't be far from the truth.

What if the Phoenix didn't care about mutants, but yes redheads? What if Mary Jane was the target? Would spiderman let the avengers take her?

The Avengers hardly ever listen to anything Spider-Man says. They'd take her, and he wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about it.

oh i dont know about that. if theres one motherfucker you dont want to piss off, its spider man. youd think a few avengers would slip cap the memo before he really fucks up.

True. Cap would probably get a bunch of Avengers put in the hospital fucking with Pete.

Spiderman defeated Captain himself on Civil War *and* returned his shield after the fight was over. Spidey can't not be the best.

Also, he defeated two of the Phoenix 5, by himself, by letting them punch him in the face.

I just finished Morrison's New X-Men. As someone who's been reading comics for about a month, I'd say that was a pretty damn good introduction to the medium.

wolverine knows better in a few ways, im sure luke wouldnt push the button. and komodo has seen him at irritated. i think only kingpin and fingerwaves has seen him pissed.

Spidey has an angry side.

It tried to turn Cyclops into a dickbag, but instead he looks like a hero. Cap spent most of the event just yelling, and attacking and being condescending to the X-Men.

Looks purdy but Cap can still eat a dick. (note that I was in b4 AvX h8rs)

Seriously, I wasn't kidding about "okay I'm in." That preview completely, 100% sold me on trying this book when I wasn't planning to. I love it.

This is fucking amazing. What's the context?

I now hate Wolverine with a passion. CYKE WAS RIGHT

Peter's wife, Mary Jane, is photographed entering Stark Towers late at night. The photog asks what she's doing there so late and to protect Peter's secret ID, she tells him she's there to see Stark.

he played a game of russian roulette. because everything worked out in the end(and i mean that term loosely. poor wakanda) doesnt mean he was right.

As long as Aunt May was safe, Peter couldn't be bothered to do anything.

Also, Dark Phoenix Mary Jane would be so cool.

Eat my asshole, Avengers. CYKE WAS RIGHT

"Well that's great Scott, I'm really sorry that the Avengers actively welcomed a being that was destroying planets on the way here- no wait, that was you guys. And I apologize for us wanting to force the nigh-infinite power of a deity on a little girl- no wait, that was you, too. We should have learned from our past mistakes, like when an avenger failed to control all that power and killed 6 billion people by eating their sun- oh wait, that was also X-men. I don't know what we were thinking actively inviting a being which has personally ruined our lives several times over and hoping it would help us this time- wait, that was yours too. I'm sure you were right about something. All that time you spent abusing the power you've known for decades to be volatile and dangerous would surely have ended well if we hadn't stopped you."

Marvel NOW! Captain America #1 preview arrived early.

Source: (Newsarama after Spike.com)

Trying to defuse the anti-Cap sentiment with Remender hype and gorgeous White-over-Romita artwork? Marvel, you clever devils. :O

...

Okay, I'm in. >:D

Back on Team Cap....not that I ever left. ;)

Seriously. Everyone is talking about how the mutants are getting help now, but what about the Wakandans?

Captain America and Cyclops don't care about black people.
