The Netflix Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies

Well that's exactly my point, especially with new subscribers. I can easily see people signing up for the free trial as a one time thing just to watch the new Arrested Development then canceling. Wouldn't it be better to do a weekly release so that it raises the probability that the customer will explore the rest of the catalog and become more likely to continue their subscription through the trial period. It also kills the prolonged water cooler buzz effect that would help promote the shows and service for a longer period of time.

It doesn't make sense from a customer retention standpoint.

I agree on your point, but I love it as a consumer. I makes me a happier consumer to have everything available at once! And I don't even marathon series, but sometimes I will want to watch 2 back to back and I bet that will happen with Arrested Development. But it works a bit against customer retention.

So I hope most customers are like me and Netflix continues this trend.

I have been watching Alias. I sort of dig it, about halfway through season 2. Without giving out any spoilers, does it just turn to complete shit at some point or should I keep on watching?

Didn't realize it was up. Need to actually finish it. Started watching it a few years ago and didn't. Loved it though at the time.

Use Spotflux.

It's free and lets you watch American stuff. You can quit the application after you start streaming.

I thought the UK selection was awful (and it is compared to the US) but I'm happy with my subscription. It's great for older films and tv shows. If you want the latest blockbusters or tv shows you're going to be disappointed.

Hmm. Will spotflux also let me watch the UK selection or other regions for that matter? (I'm in the US)

Is there a Canadian version of this thread? I'm looking for some good recommendations for Canadian Netflix.

edit:

Stupid question: Love Enco's Spotflux suggestion, I'll use that on my laptop. But I'm guessing there's really nothing you can do if you're using a 360 or PS3 for Netflix, right?

Um, did anyone else's instant queue just disappear? My entire queue is gone along with my recently watched activity. Both on the computer and on the Apple TV

EDIT: And as soon as I post this and send a message to Netflix, the queue is back. Very weird.

Wow. Great film.

In an agreement that the National Association for the Deaf (NAD) calls "a model for the streaming video industry," Netflix has agreed to caption all of its shows by the year 2014.

The online-streaming giant is already captioning 82 percent of its videos, according to the consent decree [PDF] filed in court yesterday. Now, it's bound to finish its entire library, reaching the 90 percent mark in 2013 and 100 percent by 2014.

The company has also agreed to speedily caption new content. The agreement says that Netflix will put captions on new content within 30 days by 2014; within 14 days by 2015; and within 7 days by 2016, "and shall strive to reach a point at which Conforming Captions are provided simultaneously with launch at all times."

Tonight was cinematic masochism night. Watched:

Ticked Off Trannies With Knives - An attempt at grindhouse style exploitation, but wasn't overly impressed with the final product. Needed more joyous gore and better pacing. Some okay lines here and there, but really could have been better given the premise and leaner. Too much time squandered without much of anything happening.

End credits were fun with the crew hamming it up on a strip club set/location.

Bloodrayne The Third Reich - Doctor Uwe Boll, Clint Howard, Michael Paré, inverted nipples, and a nice lesbian scene.

Then watched an episode of Comic Book Men just cuz. Mildly entertaining for the parade of collectibles if you're a nerd.

is the tall man any good?

It was weird... was hoping for a horror movie, but it's not that at all. More of a thriller I guess.

Pretty uneven. Some things were done well, others things brought on the eye-rolling. However, I'll give them credit they did a better job of it than I thought they would at the beginning, once the pieces started falling together.

I find the premise actually quite offensive. I think they try and get wishy washy with it at the end, but the movie is what it is. I'm surprised they got someone like the lead to sign on. How she was attached to this, I have no idea.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn the film had production/distribution issues... pretty offensive concept. Weird movie. Kinda glad I watched it, but also, not really much to take from it besides a huge wtf.

As promised earlier this year, Netflix has brought its movie streaming service to Sweden. The company announced the launch in an official blog post on Monday, noting that support for other Nordic countries is coming soon.

Swedish users will be eligible for a free trial, after which the service will cost 79kr ($12) a month. Customers should be happy to know that Swedish shows and movies have been added to Netflix in addition to its international catalog.

The company has also added support for the country to its iOS apps. The App Store release notes for version 2.4.1 of its software note simply: “Netflix is now available in Sweden”. Swedish is also listed as a supported language, as well as Norwegian, Danish and Finish.

In August, Netflix announced plans to bring streaming TV shows and movies to the Nordic countries by the end of the year.

Oh wow! Netflix launched in Sweden today and is launching in Denmark tomorrow! This is insanely HUGE.

Do we have any other Netflix thread than this one anymore?

Just in case anyone was wondering how accurate this review is on The Tall Man, it's DEAD ON. I felt the same way about the movie.

Btw for those who haven't see it yet, you guys should check out "Jiro Dreams of Sushi". Great documentary.

I just found out the device limit was upped from 6 to 50 a while back. Just wondering if there is a household limit? Our family has a netflix account but I got a brother who doesn't live at home while in school and gave him the account details and so far no problem. Is this against the TOS or is there no household limit?

How does netflix stop a bunch of friends and family from sharing one account?

Two streams for streaming only accounts. An additional stream for every additional DVD disk plan. You will get an error message if you try and go above your limit.

www.unblock-us.com added Netflix Sweden (denmark coming soon they said)

So far I notice they have Bettlejuice, Men in Black, Batman Begins, Matrix, Fringe that others don't

But I don't see the need for unblock-us anymore when we got the service here in Sweden and Denmark. Just got it this morning.

It don't have Vampire Diaries 2&3, Lost or a queue feature. =(

I dunno if someone already said titan ae but yeah.
Everyone should watch Titan AE.

A damn fine Sci Fi movie, and a 2D animated one to boot.
Really wish it wouldn't have bombed at the Box Office.

I agree it's a bad movie. Gina to me, just doesn't have a future as an actress and I would have preferred a more feminine lead and direction. Not sure if it would have made that much of a difference but it would have made it more watchable for me. Take Salt for instance, a similar movie and also not very well received, but Angelina made it memorable and I enjoyed it.

Anyway, watched this today

Not sure how accurate it is, but I thought it was pretty good.

I like the first half of the movie. The second half is a complete bore.

For those who have not watched it. The first half involved the revolution. The second half involves a dozen folks slowly starving in the jungle.

And at the end of it all, you have no better of an understanding of Che. As much as I love Del Toro, the second half of the film is him representing that character without dialogue, hiding behind trees, and watching everyone around him die. And the first half of the film does not do a good enough job to give relavence to those moments because he just does not talk. There is no grand speech explaining his motivation outside of the first half of film one.

Lovely Molly

I thought that this movie was really, really good. It's kind of your typical Paranormal Activity type movie and it's done really well.

The Tall Man

I finally got over my Slender Man hang up and watched this. Turns out it's pretty good as well.

I would recommend both.

Might I recommend : Tales from the Crypt : Demon Knight

Of course this isn't the best, but I enjoyed it. A perfectly enjoyable "horror" flick starring Billy Zane. Seeing as it's October, I recommend it to those seeking some horror flicks they have yet to experience.

I recently found a new favorite show, it's not so much hidden as much as i just didn't give it a fair chance previously due to a dislike of what Fox is putting out on its Sunday Cartoon line-up.

Though i wish it had a talking hamburger as part for the family....that spoke in a german accent.

Yeah but you don't have the US Netflix and it has a lot of stuff that you won't have on your service. Maybe wait a little while before the shine starts to wear off and you're like "wtf, why don't we have bsg or lost?"

Yes! I got into this last week, it's fantastic. Wonderfully droll voice acting.

Yeah, the selection of shows and movies here in Sweden is pretty weak right now (and no queue feature, WTF?). Luckily I've got a free subscription through the rest of the year, so I'm not really complaining, but things need to improve drastically if they want me to start paying for the service come January.

I know others have already chimed in, but, I also love Bob's Burgers. Probably the best show on tv right now! Soooooooo good!

If you liked that at all, watch motorcycle diaries.
