I don't think anyone's saying Super Hero comics are the coolest, most adult thing in the world, but people can't honestly be arguing that they're on the same level as My Little Pony.

It's not about level, I don't even know how do you measure such a thing. My Little Pony is a colorful cartoon about characters in funny adventures; are you sure we can't argue a resemblence to superheroes?

maybe my opinion will change in a few hours because im high right now but like

everything is dark and gritty these days and talking horses are kinda cute

who can be mad at that shit selling

I think part of the reason it sold so much compared to other successful kid comics like the Sonic and Megaman is that - no no, hear out my crazy theory - big part of the audience already goes to comic stores every wednesday for some weird reason.

People always gloss over the good stuff. Spiderman and Human Torch? More friendship and humor then every ep of MLP condensed into a singularity.

I think you may be on to something.

You give a shit, if you didn't you wouldn't be waiting for chances to poke people. But it's cool, I've been through that phase, almost got awards for doing super serious non-super hero comics for it, too.

But in the end, we just gotta admit we love these crazy people and their colorful costumes. You'll get there, too.

It's cute that you think it's a phase.

I have plainly admitted there are characters I grew up with that I will always have a fondness for, but I never need to read those comics ever again. For instance my X-Men are preserved in amber in the Claremont era. I've tried going back and I can't.

The 2012 incarnation of Storm isn't the 1989 incarnation of Storm. Some folks will point to that as an example of change for the better. I think it's just the creative equivalent of the Bath Fitter.

Treat the talent better and maybe you'll get cool new characters for me to be interested in instead of slapping a shiny veneer on Storm. :|

I'm a fan of creators at the end of the day, not so much the characters. If Alan Davis is drawing X-Men, I'll read it. Hell I read a Young Avengers book he drew and some shitty Shoehorn origin story he did.

Wolverine means nothing to me when not drawn by Alan Davis or Ivan Reis. Red Hulk? Dead to me now.

It's why I don't get mad when they make Colossus look like a buttplug, "kill" a character, let Gabe Hardman draw Rulk, or whatever. "My version" of those characters are preserved in the amber of memory.

Maybe then there would be some attractive women in it.
zing!

Since people were talking about Joe Mad and Dragonball, I was kind of surprised no one here realized on how good of a homage/takeoff the Dragonball cover was. The details are really, really good.

I didn't meant to have poked so hard. I'm sorry. But it's ok, when you get back, we will forgive you. We marvelites are all a big family after all.

mlp and human torch/miles morales friendship books can coexist

marvel is better than dc as well - no sarcasm i am finally admitting that shit

Let me put it this way. People have passion for what they like. They are passionate. When people get upset about a marvel or dc event, something that happens to character xyz, etc, etc it isn't because they don't care. It is quite the opposite. They care enough for it to effect them in a way that upsets them and there is nothing wrong with that. It really is no different than being upset about your favorite sports team losing or any other "socially acceptable" example you would like to put in it's place (because that is what it really comes down to).

To see a "dark horse" (no pun intended) come out and beat out everything you are passionate about? People don't like that. This is why it's called an "upset". That is what is happening here. It's being upset about something you like losing out to something you don't. It doesn't matter that it's ponies. It just happens to be right now.

i mean seriously these comic threads are basically us getting happy or upset over Testosterone Tom: Volume 2: Issue #1: NOW! repeatedly until Testosterone Tom: Volume 3: Issue #1: TOMORROW!: DARK AND GRITTY WHILE YA SUCK YA MOM'S TITTY comes out next year

and yall are getting salty over a mlp comic book selling well

mess

this is a comics thread. what should we be getting happy or upset about?

im a wonder woman fan dude

Wonder Woman is the only DC character I managed to like, as even Batman never quite clicked with me, but then, I only started enjoying her recently after reading some of the first stories by Marston.

I wish we had more of feminist, protector of Steve Trevor, social experimentalist, enemy of mayor prude Wonder Woman who thinks it is so freaking fun to be tied to a chair.

Being mad about this MLP comic doing well is stupid. Conventional wisdom has been that comics are selling 50 and 60 thousand copies because fewer people are interested in the medium. The people in charge at Marvel and DC have an idea that you have to have a Superman or a Batman (or their Marvel equivalents) to sell 100,000 or more copies of anything anymore, if not a dumb stunt to spike interest.

Dismissing the performance of the thing as "Durr, Bronies. Hurr" is an error because this book is
1) not a superhero comic and
2) probably being bought largely by people who otherwise don't buy comics.

There is a huge problem in the direct market, and this seems to sidestep that problem. Isn't that what's really interesting about this?
