I'd wax nostalgic about the Abnett/Lanning Nova series, but I dropped it when it started to turn into a shameless Green Lantern rip off in the second year. Brevoort tweeted this Nova geek to just start reading Green Lantern...he pretty much already was.

What was the last comic ya'll bought all the variant covers for? I'm gonna do it for Invincible 100 because I'm dumb and spend too much money on things I love.

I usually just get the variant to read if I want it. I got a ASM Marcos Martin cover, all the The Massive Rafael Grampa covers... I did get that X-Babies A-Babies one just to have cause it was rad.

I buy the cover I like, if that's not an option whatever cover is available. Comics cost too damn much to waste money on covers.

Most of the time I fish variants out of the cheap ass bins for 50¢ or if I travel far and wide and a shop doesn't have much of shit, I may buy a crap book with a fancy cover - say an Arthur Adams Red Sonja cover. :\

Lobdell's favorite part? When Clark calls for his peers to stand up for truth, justice "and yeah — I'm not ashamed to say it — the American way," a nod to the Man of Steel's history.

"While it has its problems, there are a lot of good things to say about America and the American way, and I'm glad Clark is standing up for her," says Lobdell, who also writes Superboy and Teen Titans for DC. "I'm happy to be involved in that and his declarations."

BOOM!

Suck it haters!

I should totally give this man my money.

Instead I'll just wait to hand him $5 at a comic convention. :P

So then I guess the superman that didn't acknowledge america as apart of his identity is gone now. Well he's been gone for a year, but dc isn't adapting that aspect to this new variant.

I love the way all of this sounds. Focusing on Clark Kent the man as opposed to making him just a mask for Superman (save that shit for Batman. It works better for him). Clark becoming a social crusader through his role as a journalist. Not sticking to the status quo by having him leave the Planet (though, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will point out another time where that happened). Even the villain sounds kinda cool.

All that said, I'm gonna hold off. I haven't heard very many good things about nuSuperman, and Lobdell's Titans and Superboy did nothing for me.

Honestly the cross-over is kind of worrying for his plans, but just taking his plans for Superman on their face they sound like exactly what the book needs. Superman's always been the reverse of Batman. While Batman was the reality and Bruce was the mask, Clark's been the real person and Superman the mask. Finally getting back to this idea sounds good, now if only Superman doesn't need to punch an alien in the face every issue.

Just finished the tpb, pretty good stuff. 1-4 were just fun issues, not a whole lot going on. 5 was great though, set some interesting stuff up. I see on Images' site that 6 through 9 have covers but no release dates :(

Got the first Bulletproof Coffin trade here to read next.

Mudman reminds me of what i like in Invincible, except Mudman has a better written grounded story that still keeps all the fun.

But nothing has even happened in the Mudman story so far. Issue 5 set stuff up but it's mostly just random shit happening so far, not much of a story yet. I agree that Invincible has lost some of the lightness and fun stuff that made me love it at first. Still my favorite though.

One issue into this Bulletproof Coffin trade. Damn, this is going to be amazing.

Kevin Smith is doing another Batman mini series. Were his previous ones any good?

I liked them, almost everyone else hates them. Just bear in mind that it isn't Batman at all. It's Kevin Smith's Batman, a totally different character who you will not recognise. But still, I found them fun books.

Boo. Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited is only releasing 3 issues/day this week instead of the regular 5. Hopefully this isn't going to be a permanent change, as it already takes them forever to update/fill in holes for certain series.

At least Generation Hope 14-16 are being released this week. When they're out I'll check out the series since some of you recommended it.

I'm probably going to not renew my MDCU subscription right away. I've started buying Comixology sale stuff and have a backlog for reading so MDCU aren't my only digital comics anymore, now the flaws of MDCU are enlarged.

Most books i want to read there have gaps and infrequent updates. The whole last month was basically updating the site with 30 year old Avengers books neglecting every other series. Along with that, the website navigation is very slow, and the reader also doesn't work that well on my touchpad as it's not very responsive to scrolling.

I'll probably renew when they release an app for it on android, they said the app is coming at the end of the year/early next year. Hopefully that will address half of my complaints, we'll see how their content updates go though.

I enjoyed the hell out of them. The three arcs (third one incoming) are essentially Kevin Smith and his friend/artist Walt Flanagan's love letter to the Batman they grew up with. Everybody always posts that piss-in-the-batpants scene to try and knock the story but it's such a small thing and it actually works in the context of the larger narrative.

Keep in mind Scott Lobdell is a bigtime republican so thats why he wants Superman to be unapologetically american.

That shouldn't mean anything if he writes Superman well.

Being an American and the ideals that made this country great are not the sole property of our clown ass two party political system.

Too many people overlook that because they have a ridiculous agenda and it's a shame. Superman can still fight for truth, justice, and the American way and not be anti-gay, anti-abortion, pro-voter suppression, etc. etc.

Though I'm sure in time Superman and Captain Corporation (America will be stricken from his name to embrace the global community we will live under) will fight for the New World Order and the reduction of Earth's population. :P

It's so odd. Because clearly Smith absolutely loves the character (his Fatman on Batman podcast is excellent), yet his version of it feels so very little like Batman at all. Like mentioned above, it's not really 'batman'. I couldn't get into it.

Is it the page about dumb liberal going to the middle east and ending up on a prison because the people was as evil as the dictator they overthrown?

Googling this book is amazing. So much mainstream hate.

yup. Gail Simone I believe also posted a transcript where he told her that there is nothing wrong with torturing and waterboarding people. He also got into a flame war with Ron Marz because Marz made a joke about the tea party and he got all offended

Unless I am mistaken, Wednesday marks the end of Hickman's run on Fantastic Four/FF. I will be sad to see him go, but look forward to some of the remaining plot threads being picked up in (presumably) New Avengers.

But, yeah, that's what I expect, they save the world, undo their deal with the devil and live a happy life with their redhead wife named Mary Jane.

Or at least something like Spider-Girl where the fight goes on, but the world is basically the same. My problem is how much worse the future usually is. Marvel future stories start with "what if everything goes wrong in horrible ways making the old life of your favorite heroes a living hell you wouldn't wish for war criminals?"

American Flagg yay or neigh, comixology sale?

Also comix has madman 20th anniversary for $12.....vs $60 for the oversized hc
