Hi, My name is Dominic. Whats yours?

Not open for further replies.
In light of Scorcho's passing, I wanted to introduce myself formally to the GAF community . I have been a long time lurker/member and after Scorcho's passing I questioned how many of us know each other on this forum. Of course there are more popular members on here, but I am sure I am not the only one that does not post often but finds GAF a wonderful place to be for intellectual stimulation, new updates, philosophical debates etc.

So I just wanted to introduce my self and would like posters to do the same, provide a picture if you'd like and a little bit on info such as, where you are from, age, sex, what you are doing currently or a little fun fact about yourself and what you threads you tend to frequent on GAF.

I tried to do a search to see if such a thread exists and couldn't find one, so lock if old etc..

My name is Dominic and I am 27 years old going on 28 this November (ugh). Im the youngest of 3 siblings. Im a Sony fanboy so I go on alot of Sony related threads, I also like PoliGaf and the NBA OT. I am Bostonian that lives in New York and I'm a picky eater.

Oh, and I am applying for Phd programs in Clinical Psych and Im terrified I might not get in.

That is all!

*also I am incompetent when it comes to posting pics online...

Nice to meet you Dominic.
My name is Dean, I'm 19 years old, I'm currently studying an English degree (make what jokes you will!). 70% of the time I would rather go on GAF then attempt conversation with people around me. I always have terrible hair. I worry too much.

Nice to meet you as well Dean. What do you want to do with your English degree? Law school?

Hiya! My name is Kass. I'm 30, have three children, and am going to school for the first time to become a nurse. I enjoy writing enough that I've been paid to do it in the past, and I love vidding more than I should. I am also highly involved in many aspects of fandom, and basically grew up online. I am an auditory based synesthete. I have a bit of an obsession with RPGs, and some FPSs. Also, Rock Band, cause I love to sing.

I'm Jody, just turned 29 a week ago today :O
I've been on gaf for a few years now. I live in Illinois. I have two awesome kids. One is sleeping on me right now, and the other is leaning against me watching PBS

I want to be a children's book author.

The genuine enthusiasm is endearing Dominic. Two bits of advice:

1) You need to put a / on the beginning of your second img tag so that it looks like this:

Code:
[img] url here [/img]

2) If your purpose was to introduce yourself to the greater NeoGAF Off-Topic community that is fine. But to be specific, NeoGAF has a community called Real GAF that you might be interested in.

Typical English student, I'm not too sure! Teaching is my "safe" career choice, but I'd love to go into journalism or technical writing.

My question for you, is living in NY anything as glorious as you see on TV? (I'm UK based and only have FRIENDS/How I Met Your Mother for reference)

Wow, what sort of paid writing did you do? And what's your favourite song to sing on Rock Band?

I'm James. Just moved to Austin, TX a few months ago and work as a technical writer. Graduated from Pitt in 2000 and lived in Taiwan for 10 years.

I'm going home soon to take my dog out jogging while listening to Sepultura, then am going to get high and play Borderlands 2.

I like to get shitfaced now and then, I'm writing a book of horror-themed short stories and Deckard is not a replicant.

My name is Jordan. I'm 24 and I live in Lerwick in Shetland Isles... Those tiny set of islands at the very top of the below map!

I'm originally from Leeds in England, but moved here about 5 years ago for a girl (the entire thing went tits up) but I got a great job in the tech industry and bought a flat which I share with my current girlfriend. I've been playing videogames since I was around 3 years old flip-flopping between consoles and PC. I was a huge console gamer until about 18 months ago... But I'm now firmly a PC and handheld gamer, at least right now anyway.

I wrote for several well known Alternate Reality Games. :) My favorite song on Rock Band, hmmm. I'm going to have to go with the recent addition of Dog Days by Florence and the Machine. It's seriously fun to sing, you really have to put a lot of effort into it.

My name's Donald, just turned 23 yesterday, and I would love to have a vocation where I help people. Preferably one on one, like a counselor. I live in Brooklyn, where I've lived my whole life.

A fun fact about me would be...hmm, I love thinking about the world and stuff. There is still so much mystery in our known cosmos, it's crazy.

i'm Alice, from the east midlands of England and only 9 days till my 17th birthday! been lurking for a year/year and a half but finally got account verified the other day haha. currently studying A levels at college, would love to do biomedical science at uni but hey that's 2 years in the future so who knows.

Hi, my name is Sam and I live in NZ. Although since I'm also a British citizen some of my friends call me a kiwibrit. I often talk about earthquakes (having lived through over 10,000 of them in the past two years) and the colossal squid, because the south pacific scares me.

Wow, that's a fascinating journey for you man. I chose my current University for a girl, so I empathize. I'm also attempting to transition to PC&handhelds, but I have a 360 that I've owned for years and have a huge back catalogue for.

Ooooh, ARGs. Florence does indeed sound like it would be tough to belt out, it was difficult enough with Bowie!

Hello, GAF, my name is Doug. I'm 30, live in Cleveland and had my (official) wedding ceremony to the most amazing woman just 10 days ago. I work for a newspaper as a "digital media and design specialist" and hope to start a digital magazine by the end of the year.

FACEBOOK! Yeah!

Mike. 23. Male.

Favorite game ever: Super Mario World
Current job: Helpdesk
Education: Graphic design

Currently I'm really excited for GTA V. Have every game in the series and can't wait to play it. Other than that I'm just working and saving money.

hi jody, do you have any finished stories? i've heard writing children's books can be far more challenging than anyone would imagine.

i'm sean, i'm a 28 year-old graphic designer working in the Marketing division of an online education provider. i'm currently enrolled back in college (i have a BA), taking some classes on PHP and Javascript and i'm slowly teaching myself Japanese. i enjoy electronic music (pretty much all it's myriad sub-genres), horror films, and i'm looking forward to moving in with my girlfriend of 5-years in about 3 weeks.

It was by far the scariest and most stupid decision of my life. But alas, I was young, in love and stupid. This place has huge downsides (we didn't even have a cinema until 3 months ago) but you always feel super safe (there's basically no real crime) and everyone is friendly towards each other more or less.

As for your 360 and it's backlog? Work out what you actually want to play and play them. Sell or forget about the rest. I believe I have almost 20 X360 games that I never even touched...

My name is Sarah. Also 19, from Brooklyn, New York. Currently in my second year of college studying Advertising and Marketing Communications, but I eventually want to go into Visual Arts Management (cuz I'm a big artsy fart).

I really am settled in OT when it comes to GAF, but I do look Gaming every once in a while (especially if there's news on a series I like). Typically I just browse through new threads and then head to TinyGAF once I finish with whatever I have to check online.

I'm a pretty simple person. Cliche to say, I know, but I don't really do much as one would expect of me. But I guess it makes every new thing I do a little more exciting :)

I'm Jamie. I'm a 24 year old Primary school teacher from Essex in the UK. I'm the oldest of three siblings and the first in my family to have gone to University. I actually have three degrees these days. As such, I'm sort of the academic Don Corleone of the family.

In my spare time I am writing a series of novels and a non-fiction philosophy book.

Its borderline criminal that I get paid for the job I do. I have so much fun its like I'm not working at all.

I got into gaming through my grandpa. He bought me a Sega Megadrive so we could play something together (he was housebound). I miss those days.

Hey there! Are you a born Brooklynite, by chance? :3

Hey all. My name is Drew (not Andrew, surprisingly), I'm 27 and live in Columbus Ohio. My educational background is in accounting and finance and I currently work as an internal auditor at a regional bank.

Right now I'm looking forward to some of the larger profile Kickstarter games while enjoying Guild Wars 2 and trying to get into EVE Online.

Great thread idea btw!

My name is Robert. I'm 20 years old and studying English and Creative writing at university.

I hope to go into teaching, or become a scriptwriter (both, if I'm lucky).

Fun fact: I grew up in the same town as Danny Boyle.

Hey GAF. As some know, my name is Al and I'm 35 years old. Been on GAF for ... 13 years I think. Live in North Carolina and about to go back to college full-time to finish off a CS degree in Networking and Information Security. I'm mainly known as a sarcastic asshole. It's my schtick.

My name is Cody, I'm 20, and live in DFW, Texas. Want to major in Radio/TV/Film. I like to write and watch movies and play video games. I spend a little bit more time in OT than Gaming side.

my name is jonas

Haha, good one.

Hey GAF, my name is Anthony and I am 25 years of age. I live in Norfolk, VA as part of the United States Navy, but I'm originally from Boise, Idaho.

Not much to say really. I'm a proud nerd who loves video games, cartoons, movies, and stupid pop culture in general. Used to skateboard but haven't in years, but I still hold interest in it and the lifestyle.

Hi, my name is Shino. I'm 25 years old and live in London. You can often find me in the Football (soccer) community thread in despair watching my team. Came here for the video game discussions, but my interest in gaming has slowly been fading over the years and so I find myself coming to Gaf for the Off Topic. I make UFO-related threads and hate Xbox Live party chat for killing socialising with new gamers in match lobbies.

I'm Alex, I'm 20 years old and I currently live in Brighton, England. Currently in my 2nd year at uni, studying music.

I normally stick to HaloGAF and the funny pics threads.

I would post a pic but that would mean I'd have to take one :P

Will here. In my mid to late twenties, 29. Enjoying the California life style. Never a father, always an uncle. I do visual effects part time and gaf full time.

I write and do art. When I grow up, I want to get a small house in france, a kitten named brigadier admiral Westminster. Perhaps my current gf will stick around, she enjoys the idea.

Gaf helped me with a bad breakup and a substance issue. Not directly, there wasn't a thread. But just having a place to hang out digitally with "friends" was and always will be awesome. Just helped when I didn't want to be bothered by people. Also a place That sounds really forever alone... hmm.....

Fuck this thread..

My name is Charlie.

Oh wow! I live in Bensonhurst, so what a small world!

Oh wow, nice :) I went to high school around the Midwood area so I'm pretty familiar with Bensonhurst (plus it's my sister's favorite neighborhood to hang, so I have to go there every once in a while if I need to pick her up).

Great thread, Domcorleone!

I'm 22 and I coach people in various things. I used to heavily favor and follow whatever Sony were doing but realized later that it wasn't worth it. I tend to hype up stuff a lot (be it movies, games, evenets); mostly because I love being hyping other people along with me. A common "Yoshi"-case seems to be that I keep getting disappointed by the stuff I hype up and this is true to some extent. I love listening to classic music, as well as J/Kpop/rock. I also consider myself to be one of the worlds biggest MKP-fan (MarineKingPrime; he's a professional Starcraft 2 player).

Cheers!

Afternoon all.

My name is Patrick (I usually just go by "Pat"), I'm 30, and I live in upstate NY with my wife of two years, and my two Beagles (Cody and Gracie).

I've been a gamer since I was a kid, I play ice hockey and paintball, am an avid fly fisherman and general outdoor nut.

Edit: Added a pic, as all the cool kids are doing it, or so it would seem.

Woo! English students unite! How many hours a week you have out of curiosity? I have a mammoth 7.

I'm Jamie. I'm a 24 year old Primary school teacher from Essex in the UK.

Its borderline criminal that I get paid for the job I do. I have so much fun its like I'm not working at all.
Your life sounds like my ideal future! Just out of curiousity, did you get a PGCE? And any run-ins with OFSTED? My Mum's a primary school teacher and she loves it, but it is stressful.

Christ, how long has GAF been going?!

Sounds detached, but peaceful. I went to Aberystwyth as potential place to live and it looked similar. Yeah my main hesitation before was the few exclusives the 360 had, but they don't interest me now.

Seen you around but hadn't got a formal intro. Nice to make your acquaintance. That goes for a lot of you actually, lot of familiar (avatar) faces.

I enjoy reading your posts, and don't think you are forever alone :)

I normally don't like to give ANY personal information online, as I like to keep my GAF and personal life entirely separate. However, I guess there's no harm in saying that my name is Ryan.

Hi GAF,

My name is Daniel, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Derry in Northern Ireland. Currently studying for my A Levels in Geography, Maths and Physics and hoping to go to University next year to study Geography :) Oh and I love gaming and browsing forums, of course!

Your life sounds like my ideal future! Just out of curiousity, did you get a PGCE? And any run-ins with OFSTED? My Mum's a primary school teacher and she loves it, but it is stressful.

They did indeed. 2 months into the job. Luckily my PGCE prepared me well and I came away with mostly outstanding features. If you are going into teaching, keep me posted. I'll help in any way I can.

Resources is the biggest killer. If you are prepared, you'll be a fantastic teacher.

Guess I'll do it too.
My name is Alexandre, I'm 18. I'm French.
I just started college where I'm studying English. I'd like to become a journalist.

I'm huge fan of Japanese culture. Might sound like your typical weaboo but I love Japanese rock, mangas, the folklore and the pop culture.
I also like video games but I have to admit that I play less than before.

I'm quite active in the MangaGAF community and the J-Music OT. Don't post that much in the gaming side.

The thing that's worrying me at the moment is that (apparently) you need a 2.1 to get onto a PCGE, though barring some huge disaster I should be okay as I got through my first (statistic, non counting) year with a high 2.2

Also, are PCGE's free? My tutor at Uni seemed to think they were.
