Hi, My name is Dominic. Whats yours?

where you born in TO? Or did you recently move there? How is it? I have been interested in moving to TO when the US goes to shit lol.

No, I was born in China, but came to Canada when I was four. I've been around the Toronto area ever since and I love it. A great mixture of what makes a big city great, yet with very low crime or pollution (at least relative to a lot of NA cities) and the food culture here right now is a big part of why I enjoy living here, oh and the theatre scene is pretty good.

It's great. For the first time in my academic life, I have complete control over the work I produce. Also, nothing is better than writing a script/story that you've worked so hard on, and receiving praise from your peers.

Sounds awesome and much like what I was my current studying was like! Are you in the UK? If so what Uni are you at?

Hey Dom!

Life stats GO:

Kevin
27 years old.
Born and raised in Eugene, Oregon.
Got an B.S. in accounting from the University of Oregon.
Live with my wonderful (and GAF-party attending) girlfriend Leah. We've been together over 4 years and reside in Long Beach, CA.
We have a cat that is 2+ years old and his name is Johnny aka Lord Bobo.
I work in film (script/story development) and for a Hollywood Creative Management Group (I also work in finance and financing).
Goal is to sell a feature script and become a full-time screenwriter.
I love to run and have for a long time.
Been on GAF since 2004-2005?

Nice to meet you Kevin! What kind of scripts do you like to write? My brother does screenwriting but hes not terribly good at it :-/. Maybe I could shoot you a couple of story ideas that I have had in my head for years but was too chicken to bring them to fruition!

I'm Mic Luv.
Born from an egg on a mountain top.
Gay until the age of five.
I was big in the 60s.
Men want to beat me, women want to see me beaten.
I make the possible seem impossible and the ordinary seem mundane.
I'm frequently over-encumbered.
I live for the weekend.
Discos hold no interest for a man of my standing.
Drugs? I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.
My life story was adapted for the movie Robocop.
I've never tasted treacle to the best of my knowledge.
I shot the sherrif, I shot the deputy and I inadvertently shot Bob Marley for which I'm truly sorry.
I write the songs that make the young girls cry. I like making young girls cry.
I once saw David Hasslehoff having it off with Isaac Asimov while Frank Bough wanked off. It wasn't as exciting as it sounds.
I spent two very depressing years living in a squat on Sesame Street a time which I'm still trying to forget.
Leather delights me, latex excites me, rubber confuses me and silk makes me cry.
I have a tattoo on my arse of an anchor along with the words 'Land Ahoy' in memory of the many happy years I spent servicing sailors at a rat infested barn in Portsmouth which doubled as a knocking shop.
I get no kick from champagne. Mere alcohol doesn't move me at all. So tell me why should it be true that I get a kick out of sodomy?
Most GAFfers fucking love me, the rest are wrong-headed half-wits who probably fucking love me but are too evil to express it.

You can get on with a 2.2. They have minimum GCSE requirements though.

They aren't free. They cost the same as one year at Undergraduate level. Do one that has Masters built in. You'll save a bucket load.

You definitely going for Primary?

I got a A/B/A in Science/Maths/English. Would you reccommend a Masters? Either way that probably means another £9000 at the new cost...

I'm pretty set on Primary currently as my Dad does secondary and it's like crowd control, he's had things thrown at him, sworn at etc. I know it all depends on the school. Also, am I right in saying there's a huge gap in male primary school teachers? Either way need to get some classroom experience after I finish Uni so I can decide.

... do you have some sort of fanclub I can sign up to?

Nice thread Dom. I'll bite.

My name's Martin, I'm 20 and I'm also currently studying English at University. In fact I'm procrastinating from writing an essay on Modern Lit right now. It's compulsory but unassessed so I'm not feeling too guilty.

I'm from London, born and raised, but my mother is Welsh and my father is Scottish so I like to amuse myself with thoughts of being wholly 'British'. I've always loved videogames although I don't have much time or money for the hobby these days. I came to gaf for the (mostly) cerebral videogame discussion but now I stay for the comedy.

I also plan on fighting crime one day. Please don't deduce my secret identity detective-gaf.

-Slogging my way through BioSci.
-I spend my time studying, sleeping, and the limited rest of the time drinking/high as a kite.

My name is Zack. I'm 30 years old, I've been posting on GAF since high school. That makes me feel old. I'm going back to school to get my bachelor's degree in Sociology. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I'd probably like to work in program/project/product management in the game industry. Maybe? I don't know.

I'm Tyler. 27 years old. From poverty in the woods of rural NY, currently in Austin TX, running NeoGAF, traveling the world, shattering any personal barriers I can find.

Today: mourning scorcho with a tear. Trying to shape Off-Topic discussion in the right direction. Count Dookkake drove back home a few hours ago after crashing at my place briefly to see a special screening of The Thing at the Alamo Drafthouse with an amazing Q&A with Wilford "Diabeetus" Brimley. Date with a very pretty girl tonight who seems to have some brains and adventurousness.

Fuck yeah formative work! Just finished a 1,230 word piece of crap!

I'm over 30k in debt. Loan repayments are tiny though.

Male primary teachers are in demand. Due to the combination of my male-ness and my subject specialities (science, maths and ICT), I was able to negotiate a higher starting wage.

The way the profession is going at the moment, Masters is desirable. It does factor into promotions as headteachers will want more qualified people at the top. When the Department for Education comes knocking, they'll want to look their best.

Primary is where its at in my opinion. I could have done secondary - its just not as fun. I have a broad general knowledge and am young at heart. Ideal for a primary environment.

Good ones, hopefully! It's a long, long process and I've been working at it since I was about 19-20. Still, I learn new things all the time but it really is the hardest thing I've ever done. Wish I was more disciplined, I find myself posting on GAF/playing shitty b-grade RPGs instead of writing sometimes :p

Send me a PM although I'm a busy/forgetful person that actually has a queue of scripts to read (some from GAFfers no less). Don't think I'm an asshole if it takes awhile!

:)

Sad to hear about a member passing away.

Anyway, Hi Dominic my name is Alex. I tend to frequent WrassleGAF and the Canadian threads.

Lots of people here do know each other. There are several GAF meetups that take place all over the world really. I highly recommend going to them.

Here's me with a few other gaffers back in July:
BBioj.jpg

Most of us went to dinner and hung out again last week at an AC3 event.

Seriously, go to GAF meetups.

This thread title is kind of strange to see on GAF.

My name is Dominic and I'm from Texas.

23. I love writing and reading, I hope to have a job that involves that one day.

Sounds awesome and much like what I was my current studying was like! Are you in the UK? If so what Uni are you at?

Yeah, I'm in the UK. I study at Manchester Metropolitan University. While not as highly regarded as the University of Manchester, it is still a great uni with great tutors.

Nice thread OP. My names Dan, I am 28 and live in Florida. From MA at least not sure if that's worse or better. Post in a lot of threads but Howard Stern thread is my favorite I guess.

Play all types of games, trying to get work since I moved from TN. Really enjoying 2K13 on 360 I may have to go into NBA gaf but someone mentioned required hazing.

Name: David
Studying: Programming and Japanese
Hobbies: PC gaming, reading, and learning about financial stuff.
Location: Phoenix

Mostly listen to music to help me relax since I'm going through so much. Hopefully next year I can turn it around, with a fellow Gaffer too.

I'm Andrés, 18 years old. Currently studying Mechanical Industrial Engineering. I love Nintendo, so don't speak to me, OP :(
jk

I live in "el país de la eterna primavera", aka, Guatemala.

Hi , I am Jim 34 from london. (35 in Nov)
Old school Gamer,
currently trying to lose weight to get fitter, want to be able to keep up with my son (he is five and like most kids his age has a ton of energy)

Hi, my name is Ed. I'm 41 living near Seattle WA, happily married for 13 years,no kids and work as a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D). I am a big time geek, most of my t-shirts come from Comic-Con. I've been gaming since the early 80's and while I'm older than many others here, I feel younger and more alive than I did in my 20's (grad school will do that to you). I ride bikes and until recently motorcycles (just recovered from a broken leg that came from said motorcycle, now in many pieces). I work from home so GAF has been a lifesaver and such a great social outlet in the past 5 years.
Here is a photo from a few years ago. Yeah, I'm a nerd.

Daniel

Los Angeles, CA.

36 although I act like I am 22.

I still play 3-5 hours of Games a night. I have a Halo Tattoo on my right arm. Master Chief saved me from some of the dark times of my life.

I was diagnosed with cancer while playing MGS 4. Thankfully that was 4 years ago, and still in the clear. Although I have my major check ups coming up soon.

I am hyped for Blops 2 and Halo 4.

I smoke hookah like you would not believe. 6 hours a night going on 17 years.
how do you act like you're 22? or do you still act like you did at 22?

Food for thought! I remember our teachers had to have "special" subjects... I'd probably go English/History/Drama. My Dad's a weird one, he's been offered headteacher loads of times but doesn't want the stress.

They've both had a fair bit of bad luck with horrible bosses and other stuff, so they're doing everything in their power to dissaude me from the profession, but I've always seen it as an interesting possibility with great benefits (decent pay and 12 weeks off a year?!)

Andrew here, I hide in drunk gaf (password protected OT community thread) and the fashion thread. I troll Mac/iOS threads in my spare time. I have used sperm in conjunction with an egg to create a small child. Life is good. Etc.

Oh yeah I'm 29 but post like a 10 year old.

Double edit: I met some dudes at the pax meet a couple months ago. Fun times, tho I was drunk.

You are a gentlemen and a scholar.
lol Macuser you post like a god damn man. Get it right.

My name is Tony. 31 years old. Born and raised in Southern California. I do stuff. Gaming brought me to GAF the overall respect of its community(compared to other forums) and moderation kept me here thus far. Hello.

My name's Tam but most people know me as Johnny cause I get annoyed having to correct them - nah, it's not Tom, no not Tim. Gah, I digress. I'm 28. I think I came to GAF cause I was looking for a new forum to post in after several I had been a part of just up and died. It was down to 1Up or GAF. I chose GAF. I spend most of my time in the OT, adding relatively little substance to most threads, except in the headphones thread. I'm going back to school for CCNA and networking. My name is derived from three bands/artists that I'm a fan of (Blankey Jet City, Shiina Ringo, Mukai Shutoku). I'm currently pretty damn bummed over Scorcho's passing

Thats awesome. I am planning to go to grad school for my Phd in Clinical psych. What is the biggest misconception in regards to PsyD in your eyes? I have always been told in grad school (got my MA in Psych) that Phd is better. But why?

Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

Had no idea Brimley was in that film until yesterday. That guy is a multi-talented individual. Hope your date went okay and you were a classy gentlemod.

I also hope that you haven't banned me before, and if you did I fully apologize for it...

yes, as an undergraduate I too am curious about this.

Yo, I'm Joshua, Josh called by my friends. African-American from Silver Spring, MD. Getting hammered in school, hoping to be a UI/UX/SFX designer one day.

Grew up drawing comics based on the Super Smash Bros universe in elementary school. Son of my two wonderful parents, and loving brother to my autistic, yet very lively and outgoing sister.

Hey! My name is Parker. I'm 18. I'm currently attending college as a journalism major. I'd really like to get into videogame journalism, but since it's kind of dying, I'm hoping to get into sports journalism. I mainly frequent Halo threads, and I'll occasionally go into off-topic and gaming side threads. Nice to meet you, man.

Nice to meet you!

I'm a Humboldt squid who aspires to become a pop star. I have difficulties accomplishing said goal due to my lack of vocal chords - but I won't let that stop me!

I'm not really a biscuit eating squid.

Headteachers aren't teachers. They are managers. My headteacher is a former lawyer.

We only work 193 days a year! (Well, that is what we get paid for).

Fuck yeah formative work! Just finished a 1,230 word piece of crap!

Seriously. I wish I could just force out some piece of shit and be done with it but the perfectionist in me insists on making some effort. Urgh. Back to reading this incredibly tedious essay by Virginia Woolf.

It is more about the lack of awareness about the degree. These days the only places where you see Ph.D. being preferred is in university research settings and by government agencies, mainly because of history. It really depends on what you want to do. A Psy.D. is really more geared towards practice and therapy while Ph.D. (at least in my training) was less focused on treatment and more on research. However, you matter much more than anything else. I've applied for and eventually turned down positions that stated they wanted Ph.D. only. It is more about what you bring to the table, a Psy.D. has never been a barrier for me and I feel the training I received made me a much better clinician. I still had a strict research methodology in my education and dissertation, but more qualitative vs quantitative and much more time in internships and supervised practice vs the Ph.D. program at my school. I attended CSPP later Alliant University in San Diego, CA Hope this helps and great idea for a thread!
