What's up GAF!
My name is Arjen 31 years old. Living in the north of the Netherlands and "working" as an Engineer in the Confectionary Industry.
Living alone downtown one of the bigger cities here up north trying to have as much fun in life as possible.
Love movies, games, music and travel to see as much of the world as possible. Picture is from my recent trip, sort of hard to watch because it's getting so damn cold again.

Great thread idea btw!

Hey, i'm Dimi :) Dimi from Germany! I live in a small town near cologne. i'm 26 years old. Right now i'm trying to finish up my bachelor's degree in regional studies china / social sciences. Studying feels slow and boring sometimes but it changed my life big time. Since i went to china in 2010 my life has never been the same again. I didnt only see a great variety of new places, i also met a lot of new people, including my current girlfriend who is just a stellar women. Besides gaming i'm a huge football supporter. as some might now my favourite club is FC Bayern München. I listen to a loooot of music. mostly asian related stuff which started around 2003 when i heard my first Ayumi Hamasaki song. looking big it was a huge game changer since it was the first thing that got me hooked up on asian culture.

in terms of gaming i used to be a huuuuge sony fan. but that stopped in the last years. i changed to pc gaming and never looked back since then. but i think i still spend more time posting on gaf than actually playing games :D gaf is a nice addiction, a nice community, an awesome time killer. met some really nice people here. really appreciate the whole thing here.

Hi. I'm Alice, 23 from Darwin, Australia.

Mostly hang in the OT. An ex-bf introduced me to GAF about 4 years ago.
Work in poisons licencing administration, saving up now to buy a house with my current partner, love reading celebrity biographies, listening to Rammstein and Duran Duran, researching family history.
I am Italian, Left Handed, Brunette, Wears glasses.
Never been overseas but thinking about heading to East Timor next year, and then eventually go back to Italy to trace the family tree (of accountants for the Medici!).

Hi, I'm Sean from Fort Lauderdale, Florida - one of the few that was actually born and raised there :p. I'm 23 and currently attending the University of Florida for a BA in, laugh if you want now, Journalism. I have an internship as an editor at a publishing company in Gainesville and also write for a music website currently. I'm hoping that I'll be able to find a job in the field, but that's obviously no guarantee; no matter how much experience you have.

I'm a fan of video games (obviously since I'm on GAF), rap, indie rock and progressive metal, and football (yes hand egg you soccer lovers!). My main, and only thing I'd call a true passion, love in life is writing. I'm excited about NaNoWriMo coming up!

I used to mainly frequent the gaming side, but now almost exclusively post on OT. I peruse the College Football, NFL, Anime, Manga and Political threads mainly. And of course any thread involving the latest weirdness in my state!

Here's a hipster faded out picture of me, since I really don't have that many to begin with.

And go Gatas!

I'm Emil, 22 from Denmark. I go to uni (again after dropping out of 3d college) and work as a substitute at a private school. A huge football (soccer) fan, where i probably got 75% of my posts on this forum and use way too much money on computer stuff and video games I end up never playing. In my freetime I build awesome shit with lego duplo.

Also got a pretty awesome beagle.

Boo this man

Hey GAF, I'm Nathan.

ZDXmk.png

Grew up in North Dakota, but moved to Redmond, WA last year (and luckily found a job and all that stuff; downside was I essentially "got" eczema from climate change). I work for a mobile development company that develop a lot of apps for other clients; would like to be a writer.

I often lurk both sides, but occasionally post in the Vita thread and the Writing Challenge thread. One of my favorite GAF-related memories is reading this thread out loud to my last roommate back in North Dakota and crying laughing. Favorite game: Katamari Forever... I think.

Nice to meet you.

I am trying to get over my fear of everything, so here goes:

Hi, my name is [very generic Vietnamese name that works for both genders and I will be shocked if you can't guess it in a few tries lol].

I am female, and I'm .. ... 28..! Wah!
I feel more 18ish though. Never quite grew up and maybe I never will!

I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Education-wise.. I applied and got accepted into OCAD (Ontario Collage for Art and Design) among other schools, but decided to just follow my academic/intellectual interests and learn the heck out of human behaviour.. so I got an Honours Bachelors of Science (with high distinction~! Ooh~!) at the University of Toronto instead. I specialized in Psychology, majored in Anthropology, and minored in Linguistics. I also almost completed my Masters in Occupational Therapy at U of T but then realized near the end that I could not imagine myself doing this for my career anymore and withdrew from the program and am now in heavy student debt. lol

Most of my life accomplishments have been in academics, so it's weird to not be a student now, and I don't really know what to do with my life. I kind of want to be just a professional student--since I'm good at learnin' and taking tests. Just learn things and not be expected to make a living "working". If only! I feel like I'm one of those over-educated and aimless people with no ambition.. but I guess at least I have a job and am a pretty nice person albeit anti-social tendencies (social anxiety stuff)!

I work at a grocery store as a cashier now because that's how I roll. xD

I still live with my family, who I love to bits, and who are really fun to hang around, but I'll probably have to move out when I get married next year... ;___; Nooooo....

My true passion is probably in the arts, so you will see me posting most in the Art-GAF threads with my artwork. My style looks like some kind of anime/manga/westernized hybrid, which I'm never quite sure how to feel about it, but I've tried to make my peace.
Example:
prax_emblem___wallpaper_by_meibatsu-d2ivlho.png

More stuff on my deviantart page @ meibatsu.deviantart.com

I've gotten commissions and stuff in the past, but I've always considered myself a hobbyist first. I want to be more "serious" about my art and pursue it as a profession, but I am full of artistic angst and insecurity, so we'll see if that ever comes to fruition.
My dream is to one day be able to tell my stories with all my hundreds of characters--probably in comic book form.. but you know.. fear mixed with drops in ambition makes for hard times.

Objectively, I know I am probably intelligent and talented in different areas, but I still feel like a big stupid and a fraud most times. I have been improving in the past year or so self-perception-wise, but maybe it'll take a couple more decades until I get it together!

I otherwise lurk around the Gaming Forums because I am fascinated by the videogame industry, and am a Nintendo fan at heart (because they make Fire Emblem lol). I also post sometimes in the Toronto-GAF thread and the Girl-GAF threads. I also really like reading just about anything interesting and controversial.. whether it's arts, economics, science, politics, sociology, technology, religion, occult, or even system wars. GAF IS SUCH A HUGE TIME SINK.

I came to know GAF through my brother, and lurked for years until I decided to sign up. After a few months, I got in and then I waited another year or so before even posting anything, I think. I am probably more active now than I have ever been.. so uhhhh... see you guys in other threads too, I guess!

Hey everyone I am Moritz. I am 31 and I am an attorney in Berlin. I studied law in Germany, Spain and New Zealand. I've learned that there are great people everywhere you go. Sounds a bit tacky but it's a simple truth. I mean just look at us! GAF is pretty phenomenal in every sense of the word. How decent can such a big online community be?

Sure enough there are idiots everywhere you go as well. I try to cut out all the BS and not be an idiot myself. Cause sometimes we are all being one.

I'd love to live abroad for another year or two, especially in the US. I kinda fell in love with the US again after reading lot's of classics like James, Wharton, Fitzgerald, Parker, O'Hara (GAF rec!), Cheever, Steinbeck, Williams and Faulkner. I also just realized that it's probably time to move on from US authors.

That's me in Petra, Jordan:

Hey there,

My name's mike. I'm 41, married with two kids and two dogs in Columbus, Ohio.

Graphic designer by trade, gamer and hockey fan by night. I also love 70s-80s comic books, Marvel and Pixar movies, and Nine Inch Nails.

Hey everyone!

I'm Josh, 20, from Wirral (UK) and now studying Marketing in Huddersfield. I frequently check up on the gaming side of GAF for news, and lurk on the Halo, F1, Fitness and a few other community threads. OT is a guilty pleasure of mine, this place makes me laugh.

Fun fact... that avatar is actually me, I'd love to say I'm an actual professional racing driver but I got damn close (as much as money permitted). Raced karts nationally for 12 years picking up some regional championships on the way, and I've tested Formula Ford and Renault Clio Cup machinery at Silverstone.

Hi GAF! I'm Bob. Live just outside of Boston, father of a grad student.
Not going to post a pic. You can hunt a few down here on GAF where I was labeled as a Dilf. Thanks GAF.
I love and can't stand people at the same time. I get "He's the nicest guy" a lot only because I am very interested in other peoples lives and interests so I ask a lot of questions. Sadly what I find more often is more people go on about themselves without you even asking.
Anyways Let me continue on about myself hahaha. Addicted to GAF, love gaming and sports. Married to one of the most amazing human beings on the face of the earth, also one of the funniest.
One last thing. My grammar has always been horrible.

Hello all!

My name's Damien, 23 from Dublin, Ireland. Work as a Structural Engineer in Dublin.

Studied in UCD for Degree and Masters, obviously a gamer, Leinster Rugby Fan. Quite enjoy my films and tv as well!

Haven't read through the thread yet, but I will !

I'm Kevin, 26 (27 in december) but I prefer my middle name : Phi-Long, vietnamese for flying fucking dragon. That's how badass I am. I don't look vietnamese though, so people who see my face after reading my name are surprised.

I live in Maisons-Alfort, France, which is near Paris. I'm currently unemployed, with an information officer degree, so looking for a job in a library or a resource center. I have no trouble reading or speaking English, but writing is another beast. On GAF, you're more likely to see me post on the funny and creepy pics threads, but I lurk a lot (love politics).

Here's me, have some of it

Also, if you can read French, I'll be delighted to be your friend here or there

I always wondered what you looked like...
Now i know......Change your name to G.O.O. in real life man, i did try to add you but your Facebook wont allow it..

Hello, my names Shaun I'm 33 and live in New Jersey (outside Philly)

I just got a job after a year of being laid off working for the local schools at night so I can earn my boilers license. Never went to college, or high school much, so Ive alway been jumping around from trade to trade with lots of manual labor thrown in.

Been with the same girl for 13 years and have a 11 year old son. 2 dogs, an Australian Shepard and Border Collie.

My life pretty much revolves around 4 things besides work..
Family, My son, my two other kids (the dogs) and soccer

My son plays academy soccer so I'm usually driving miles away for tournaments or sitting through hour after hour of practices. And on top of that I'm a die hard MLS fan of my local team and spend my Sat. during the summer singing, jumping and getting drunk. Have only missed 1 game in 3 seasons.

Used to game alot, which brought me too GAF, now pretty much only play good WRPG's, FPS or FIFA.

Also got a rep around GAF for my screwy stories of my troubled youth :/
Ah I remember the thread, glad to know you took the school job. How did your wife take it?

Damn yo this thread shits all over real gaf and post your pics gaf. The legacy of Scorcho.

Hello friends,

My name is Paul, 33, and I'm originally from Richmond, Virginia. I have a bachelor's degree in fine art, a master's degree in biology, and a juris doctor in law. I'm currently an intellectual property lawyer. I came to GAF I guess 8 years ago now after being a longtime lurker (I lurked because I didn't want to use my university email address to register!). I came for the videogames, but I get the feeling like some, don't really play much anymore (the current generation lost me), but I really enjoy OT so I've stayed because of it. My hobbies include playing guitar, music theory, linguistics, history and painting (when I get the chance . . I'm getting ready to start on a series of 4in x 4in wood panel paintings of demons based off those seen in ukiyo-e prints). If we've ever really disagreed in here, from this end, it was always with love and a desire to learn about the issue. Cheers

Hi, my name is David. I'm from Houston, but I'm moving to Dallas in like a week or two for a job. This will be my first major move on my own so I'm nervous and excited about it at the same time. I'm pretty boring and not photogenic at all. I used to be big into fighting games but now I just play LoL.

Since some people are posting there bad pics, here's one of me making a weird face eating yogurt. And since gaf hates fedoras, the pic is a double-whammy!

I must assume someone's already done the "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die" bit.

I'm Eric. I'm 35. I live in Kennesaw, Georgia, USA, which is about 30 minutes north of Atlanta. I'm in world famous Cobb County, known for such hits as "Newt Gingrich" and trying to teach creationism in science class. I like long walks on the beach and prog rock. I play lead guitar in a band called Jango Monkey. Jango Monkey is more of a "Indie-Jam-Rock" thing, but I do like to play guitar solos. I wrote and sing tracks 2, 5, 8, and 11 on our new album. "Eucalyptus" is my Opus, but my guitar solo at the end of "Fishing on the Last Day" is one of my better guitar solos.

Here's a link to download the album for free: http://www.mediafire.com/?2n2ymmw3ngxg4of

I've been married for 8 years and I love my wife more than anything. No kids, but not for a lack of trying. We also have 3 cats named Zuke, Tink, and Narcels and a dog named Bacon. Tink is currently having kidney problems and has lost a lot of weight because she isn't eating. It's very sad, as we've had her for 10 years.

I first enrolled in college in 1997. After many breaks, then getting serious and taking two courses per semester while I worked 50 hours a week, I'll finally have a degree in accounting this December. I've worked in accounting for the last seven years.

I love beer. I can only drink the good stuff. Total snob about it. If you like beer, find a way to get some Heady Topper from "the Alchemist" in Vermont. It's only sold in Vermont and occasionally you can find it near Boston.

Here's my wife and me posing for pictures at our friend's "bacon" themed cooking party. She made gluten-free bacon bit peanut butter cookies and I made both bacon toffee and squa corn. There were props by the photo area. I'm pretty weird, but I don't usually walk around looking like this.

Oh! PC Gaming Master Race here! I do have a PS3 as well though. I used to have a 360, but I won't buy a console twice.

Hi GAF!

I just finished reading the whole thread. It's awesome to get to know the person behind the username and avatar.

I still feel like the new guy, since I've been here for less than 4 months. I'm just glad there isn't any kind of weird or humiliating rite of passage!

Yeah it is pretty awesome, makes everything seem more real than it is.

Technically I'm still new as well, although I've been browsing GAF for years and signed up 2 years ago (I think?...Yeah two years, heh.).
Only recently I just decided to stop being so dang shy and actually post more often.
There is a bit of a "new guy" feeling in all of us!

There never is a rite of passage!...(maybe)

Hi, my name is actually Szu. I chose it because it's unique enough that I didn't need to create another handle for myself. I was born in Shanghai, but I've been living in New York for most of my life. I'm 38 (btw, you guys make me feel old) and recently married.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I married a woman who has more Nintendo games than me. I think I hit the jackpot.

I tend to check up on Fitness-GAF. I also like to post pics of my adventures on Pics of Yourself.

you sound like me, except I live in NY. Luckly my gf moving in with me back in March helped things a bit. Just live your life man, everything will work out if you do that. Also GET OUT THE HOUSE! Explore TO as much as you can.

Thanks for the reply Dominic, and thanks for the advice. I do my best to just try and live my life, I know there have been dark days in the past, but just hoping for a positive future is what keeps me going. Right now I'm just excited for going home for Christmas.

Getting out of the house and exploring is easier said than done! lol I realize I'm not much of a city person and miss the small town life, so getting out and exploring a crowded city just tends to scare me more than it excites me.

A lot of great posts here in this thread, and glad so many people are sharing, but I feel bad when I don't get around to reading every one. lol

Hey GAF,

My name is Matthew Perkins. My friends call me Matthew J. or Ol' Pine Top after the late great Pine Top Perkins. I'm 29 and have been married for a little over 4 years. I live just outside of NYC in New Jersey in the USA. I love NY Giants football, traveling, and history. I'm also a huge gamer but I'm not a fan boy of any camp. I usually go out of my way to argue with fan boys regardless of allegiance (sorry guys). I used to be morbidly obese but now I'm under 190 pounds. I work for a BPO firm doing analytical work. Currently I am working towards getting my PMP certification. My avatar is a picture of me in Paris, but here is a picture of me in front of the Coliseum rocking my GAF tshirt.

Well, as Dumbledore once said: "Of course this is happening inside NeoGAF, but why on Earth should that mean that it is not real?"

If you've been here for 2 years or more, I wouldn't say you're particularly new ^^
Though if you didn't post often I can see why you feel that way.

Is it wrong to say that your "maybe" scares me? I don't want to receive a spanking from every GAFfer while naked and singing a Spice Girls song!

You mean you slipped through the initiation net? You just wait!

I am trying to get over my fear of everything, so here goes:

Hi, my name is [very generic Vietnamese name that works for both genders and I will be shocked if you can't guess it in a few tries lol].

I'll take a crack at this. Linh?!

Anyways, I'm Tony and I'm 25. Starting to get up there now. I went to UWF (University of West Florida) for my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and UF (University of Florida) for my Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I've been working in the real world for about 3 years now. It's not too bad and the paycheck is nice. Now I'm just living life and trying to have a good time.

I mostly lurk in threads for games I might be playing. Right now its Dark Souls, UMVC3, and D3 though my gaming flavor is very open. I also lurk in the NFL, GAF-HOP, Monthly reading, and a ton more in OT. There's just too much to list. Fun and interesting stuff.

See all of ya around and don't forget to live it up!

Greetings GAF.

Name is Sakura/Kevin. Strange name combination i know.

Currently living between Newnan and Sandy Springs in Georgia. New job is necessitating this living arrangement. Hopefully in January when my Lease is up i will not have to do that anymore.

I currently work at Newell Rubbermaid as an IT Analyst. I pretty much am the typical video game nerd, but also love movies and going out to trivia with friends. Been with the same lovely woman for 10 years, and we are finally moving in together in January.

I also love technology, Use mac/PC/Linux and hold no allegiance to one of them. Which baffles my coworkers and friends.

And desperately trying to drop the pounds. Started a regimen. no results yet, but sticking to it.

Hello,

My name is Jens Halvarsson, I'm 28 years old (on 28th of october).
Live in beautifull Sweden, Ljusdal (population of 6000).

Hi GAF!
No... No. I refuse to believe you're an actual person. You're freaky Begotten god, and nothing more, nothing less

Hi, my name is [very generic Vietnamese name that works for both genders and I will be shocked if you can't guess it in a few tries lol].
You're not also a Tam are you? It's either that or Phuong lol

Hi gaf, my name is Thubie im pretty sure im the only one in the world or at least western world having this name.

Im from the Northern part of the Netherlands(Friesland).
Im 22 years already time flies when you pass 18.

Currently going for a Bachelor in Computer Science at the NHL hogeschool.
Hope to actually make it into the games industry after finishing CS and yes i know the about the shitty hours ,sub market payment. Still want to do it.

Salutations!

My name is Jeffrey, I'm 26 (turning 27 by December)

I reside in sunny South Florida and I've been here all my life. Studying English at school but taking a break to get life stuff done.

My regular haunts are the fighting game threads, manga GAF, and probably some niche gaming thread. ; )

Hello, I'm Martijn. That's pronounced as Martyn (with the y sounding like it does in the word "my"). I'm 31 years old. Originally from the Netherlands, but moved to Chicago about 9 years ago. I divorced from a 5 year marriage/10 year long relationship a few years back. Despite my marriage being the reason I moved to Chicago, I have decided not to move back to the Netherlands. I'm starting my life over completely independent, and I'm loving it.

I work as an administrative assistant for a well known bank, in a business financing department (asset based lending). In the evenings I go to class and study for a bachelor's in computer science, which I only started doing since late August of this year. I was the worst student when I was younger, and now I'm amazed at myself with how well I'm doing!

If I don't forget, I'll update this post with a picture later on.
