Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

Maybe someone should write a "I love my Vita, here are the reasons why I think it's worth getting" thread with a clear, concise and awesome OP. After that we all fall in and fight back the zombie, Vita eating horde.

Thats a nice idea. Actually, (I did that for an earlier thread) you could ask a mod to sanction this thread beforehand, banning any trolling when you declare that in the OP.

It isn't our job to manage other people's opinions. If they don't like it, that's fine. If they want to be happy about their non-purchase in hate threads, that's fine. Eventually, anyone who enjoys the system will stay out of it and everyone else will just race to post cynical one-liners.

Lol, won't change anything. Pointless to argue with someone whose sole purpose is to get a rise out of you. Best advice is to ignore it and move on. If you ignore a troll, they get bored and move on.

Gaf IS managing other people's opinion. No matter how you slice it, a forum is affecting those reading it. We have quite a few developers and journalists here, what kind of impression are they supposed to get and what might they perceive through these threads?

Not to mention potential buyers, who are being told "DONTBUY; ITS DEAD" every week.

No one would care. You'd probably be trolled like crazy. Even if the OP is great.

Wee, new Vita is sat on my desk. Debating whether to set it up now or wait until the new firmware and + hits.

Haha, yeah. Go play! The games you already have arent getting better by waiting ;p

Journalists who are "fooled" by gaf don't get much sympathy here. Lyphen is right in this particular case.

I hope the new firmware adds some more support for dpad + button control for the things that weren't taken care of last time. I'd like to navigate the PSN store without touching my screen anyways.
Also I want options for that 1 minute auto-brightness dim.

Hate threads aside, I platted NLKS! ^_^

Congrats! I've been wanting to go back to it and finish it finally - I wanted to develop everything so I can get the plat in one final swoop. I'm also curious how long it took you? :P I really love that game.

Also: Someone brought up a good point in that Vita hate thread - this came right after the awesome news of PS+ getting tons of freebies for the Vita. Talk about destroying any momentum the Vita gained. A friend of mine just bought one too.

All: this is my second Vita. :)

Sold it earlier this year (time constraints), regretted it immediately.

A lost brethren!

;p

I think my Vita is the console that I'd sell last atm, especially with PS+ coming now. PS3 close second though for the FIFA rounds with a friend every week. After that would come my PS2 for my beloved PS2 game collection- Then my 3DS in anticipation of Animal Crossing. Then my DS I guess.

I still have a PSP though, not sure why. I could sell that.

Am I crazy or does Escape Plan use an obscene amount of memory for what it is?

I need to get it finished and DELETE IT FOREVER. Don't like it nearly as much as I thought I would, and haven't even played it since release week.

Same for me.

Psp was my favorite system last generation.

I got an xbox 360 that hasnt been touched in years and my ps3 just sits there and hold all my vita/psp content for when i need to transfer stuff because i cant justify a new vita mc atm.

I bought a Vita and an iPad at about the same time, and foolishly thought I'd miss the iPad more than the Vita (I don't know what it is about iOS games, I don't find many fun and those that I do are more "throwaway" experiences - nothing I can get my teeth into). Been thinking about it for a while, and the imminent arrival of PS+ (particularly Gravity Rush) pushed me over the edge.

Guys, let me speak as veteran gaffer that has been around since the 32 bit days.

Don't bother.

It sucks when you have a system that you like being trashed here, I have been there many times. You know it is a good thing, you are pretty damn sure you are having a great time with it and you hope for good news to arrive in the future. And it sucks when every thread becomes another worthless discussion about it being doomed.

Enjoy the system, comment about the games and don't waste time worrying about stuff we have no control. The time you are engaging with a poster shouting "doooomed" is time you could be playing with your Vita (or doing any of the million of things better than having a forum discussion with someone who is not really interested in the topic).

Just ignore it and let the mod team do their work, if the thing gets out of control they will do something, like other times. Meanwhile, don't let yourself drained by this.

This is how I see it, Gaf does have a lot of sway when it comes to uninformed peoples opinions and if the general tone of it for something is ‘LOL its dead, has no games’ blah blah it would instantly turn someone off it.

I know none of us work for these companies (except the ones who do, LOL) but surely as fans of a certain form of entertainment that has a lot going against it (bad press, fanboys ect) surely trying to help the perception of something isn’t that much of a hardship and is a positive?

you wouldn't get banned, youd just get a lot of reeaction gifs

but you cant compare the two honestly, and i dont even like halo.

I don't think he is comparing the games, just the difference in reaction one would expect from making such comments against a game with favorable media opinion and the decidedly harsh judgment most Vita games have been getting recently.

If you look at other handhelds and then look at what we are getting this early on for the Vita, I find it incredible that the Vita is getting so much hate. It really is a shame. It doesn't affect how I feel about my Vita. I used to play something on the PS3 every day but now I find myself reaching for the Vita first.

Hate threads aside, I platted NLKS! ^_^

Congratulations! It really is such a great game. I need to get back to it but I've had a recent pinball itch that ZP2 has been satisfying.

Just caught up as got reminded-

I sold mine around may time because I lost my job and needed the money - regretted it straight away and bought another brand new one about three weeks later xD

I'm such a tool lol

And it sucks when every thread becomes another worthless discussion about it being doomed.

I know what you are trying to say, but forums actually do PR work and either GET people to buy things or hold them off of buying things.

I did both multiple times for great or super bad games by posting my opinion. Pretty sure I sold about 500-1000 copies of games (counting all games together I was vocal on, not 500 copies of a single game) on GAF just by word of mouth through threads I made or impressions I pushed in the Steam thread.

Same the other way round, I am also rather sure I influenced people not to buy certain games after being relatively vocal about my feelings for them.

And this is exactly what those threads are doing. Not doing anything about it is more or less the same as hating on it currently since it will just convince people not to buy the console. Forums and perceived public opinions matter a LOT, more so on prominent and important forums that are even cited in the press.

This is my experience with obtaining a vita.

Wanted one since it was named NGP. It finally released in usa, decided to wait because i know a white vita will be coming. Few months later they announce the ac:l bundle, and i said ill wait (thought it was a dumb move on sony's part to announce a new color 6 months in advance). So the time finally came it releases, but then the release was sooo close to BF i said hey maybe a few more weeks won't hurt. 2 weeks in, i couldnt hold it and bought it anyways. No regrets.

I never let the haters sway me from buying a vita, because i kept myself informed. The price never really bothered me.

I dont like cod, but i hope it can move systems.

I was hoping for COD too, but with a 29 metacritic, I think it basically wont have any influence at all. My best bet is still on a PR marketing push for PS+.

Unless if the top port on Vita turned to be a UMD add on(lolz), then NO. do not sell your PSP because there are many PSP games that will never ever come to PSN.

I'd regret selling a console I have some games on that I really liked (AC!D), but I dont think we even get most of the interesting PSP RPG releases in EU.

And there is still a VERY sizeable PSP backlog on PSN VITA. You are right though, part of that is me hoping they would finally add more games to PSN. Did they say anything about that? Announcing more PSP games for games or something?

Sound advice. Is a game tanking in the reviews really enough to throw of an entire game console ? Lets focus on the real facts of the system and how to grow the system we love. There will alway be haters. Haters gonna hate.

Online on the vita ? what have been your experiences so far in games such as Lbp,wipeout, resistance, motorstorm, psasbr:beta ?

I don't know if in my right mind(i can't unsee those reviews) i can pay £34.99 for this, for me COD is all about multiplayer How many people here have bought, haven't returned and are actively playing COD BOD ?

There was so much goodwill being shown towards the Vita after the PS+ announcement that the haters felt compelled to rally in a bid to dash any positive momentum.

Frankly, I'm amazed by the ire many so-called Sony enthusiasts have shown towards the device. Vita's poor performance is reflective of Sony's gaming division as a whole.

Not only does it portend to future struggles the company will have getting the PS3 successor off the ground but the Vita itself is going to be instrumental in that system's success due in large part to the fact that multi-screen gaming functionality is going to become the norm for Japanese-developed franchises going forward.

Sony is going to want to be able to ensure those experiences can be made available on Sony console platforms going forward which is why the Vita itself and/or a stripped-down Vita-like tablet controller device will be integrated into the PS4 ecosystem.

The haters are acting like if the Vita fails quickly and quietly Sony can devote all of its time and resources to a return to dominance in the console space... something that simply isn't in the cards unless Sony waits until 2015-16 regardless of whether the Vita is around or not.

I've had tangible results in advocating people to buy The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky over the past couple years. And that's just from people actively posting. GAF has plenty of people lurking or simply awaiting their accounts to be activated that have no doubt purchased the game as well.

Forum advocacy definitely makes a difference.

Sorry about the job situation.

But with all this negativity about the Vita, I would sell mine in a heartbeat.
Only if I could find a White Vita at a good price. So SEXY! ;-)

With something like cod the point is that people don't give a shit about scores, the dude bro crowd goes oh hey I can play cod on this vita thing? And it's portable? Lets go.

At least that's the idea

It's true. You made me buy Grand Ages: Rome and Children of the Nile in one of the past steam sales and I don't even like city bulding games!

I hate you Toma.

:p

Edit

I even bought CivCity: Rome too

ARGH

I was hoping for COD too, but with a 29 metacritic, I think it basically wont have any influence at all. My best bet is still on a PR marketing push for PS+.

People on the gamefaqs board are saying their gamestop is sold out on cod bundles and wifi vitas.

Most of the threads that come up don't have people screaming DOOMZORZ!!. It's just people looking at the sales numbers and realizing that if this keeps up then the Vita is in serious trouble. No one is saying it doesn't have any games. What they are saying is that there are no real system sellers, and that it doesn't have an identity. Then the whole COD fiasco exists because that was one of those games that could have potentially really helped the Vita out, if it was very well received.

I really like the Vita, and as a college student living in a dorm, it's the only system I have with me and currently has way more games than I can juggle with at the moment. I can only play so many PSP, PSX, and Vita games at a time. But I'm still worried that it's going to fall flat on it's face and can admit that the sales are garbage.

I'm not sure what's worse: reading the GameFAQs forums or taking anecdotal evidence about a game's sales performance in those forums at face value.

You are saying it yourself, is about talking about your experience with it. Confronting with the negativity won't convince anyone. But showing what it has and what is your experience with it may make a difference.

No ones' buying the white vitas?

No one should buy any white PlayStation products EVER because they turn piss yellow in few weeks.
