This thing is amazing, yet freaky as hell.

Pretty much. Legs on this thing look and move eerily like legs on Gekkos, and it's using the non-rigid muscle-like movement system much like the idea behind Gekkos. Kojima is on the ball when it comes to current trends, as usual.TheOMan said:Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm going to pre-emptively say MGS4 for the win.
Did you see it recover from the second, even strongest kick, when it kinda jumps aside, crossing it's legs while keeping balance. It's unbelievable to see something like this actually being made.aoi tsuki said:i kept rewinding the clip where it recovered from the first kick.

Even more signs of the Evil Robot Overloards/Apocalypse:
A nimble, four-legged robot is so surefooted it can recover its balance even ... all » after being given a hefty kick. The machine, which moves like a cross between a goat and a pantomime horse, is being developed as a robotic pack mule for the US military.
BigDog is described by its developers Boston Dynamics as the most advanced quadruped robot on Earth.
Raibert says the latest version of BigDog can handle slopes of 35° a steeper gradient than one in two. The hydraulics are driven by a two-stroke single-cylinder petrol engine, and it can carry over 40 kg, about 30% of its bodyweight. The robot can follow a simple path on its own, or can be remotely controlled.
The legs on the next version of BigDog, V3, will each have an additional powered joint and will be able to take on even steeper slopes and rougher terrain at higher speed, its makers say.

wtf sick.

Wheels cannot do half of what this thing does. Did you watch the movie? It walks up VERY steep inclines, even covered with loose rocks. It walks through thick mud and snow. It can climb stairs. It can recover balance when it's tipped. Let's see wheels do that.dem said:Whats the point? why not just have wheels?
But think of how many jobs that'll open up for us C&C players? THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES!! There could be a GAF Robot Division.siamesedreamer said:What's really scary is that once they are able to mass produce things like that, it'll probably be a ton more cost effective to use them in military operations. I envision the legs on the real production versions to be VERU large and VERY thick. This thing looks very spindly. When they finally put this tech onto a gun the legs will have to be stronger.
And each one should have a bomb inside it so if they're tipped over in enemey territory, they can be destroyed so they don't steal our tech!
