He "returned". Gary Mitchell hasn't happened in JJ Trek so it can't be him IMO.
It could still be Khan. If Khan was in cryostasis and was awoken, he was gone for a while so he can actually "return". They are really ambiguous with what they show. He's shown leaping with some kind of weapon in his arm. If he was Gary Mitchell, he wouldn't need weapons. Also, Kirk wouldn't be able to get into a fist fight with Mitchell.
I feel it's more likely to be Khan or another of his Supermen now than Mitchell.

Yea I bet because its a divergent timeline they wake up one of the other of khans people who turns out to be just as deadly or worse than khan was.
Mitchell was done in the comics, so he could technically return.
But I doubt that as it would surely be confusing for most of the audience that these new films are aimed at that don't know the old or new alternate universe stories.
He didn't have any noticble powers that I saw besides jumping around what looked like quite a way and beating people up, so genetically enchanted human seems more likely than super powers.
If it's Khan then they really are creatively bankrupt.
Iam already in loveOh, and the blonde looks woefully out of place. The way the camera subtly zooms in on her during her first shot...*cringe*.
Blonde girl is probably Marla or an equivalent, the historian who falls for Khan in TOS.
Well, the script can't possibly be worse than 09. Right?

Mitchell was an Academy friend of James T. Kirk, stemming back to the time then-lieutenant Kirk was serving as an instructor and Mitchell was a first-year cadet. That year, Mitchell aimed a "little blonde lab technician" towards Kirk – as a means to distract his rigid instructor – and, in turn, Kirk almost married her.
When Mitchell fled captivity, he took Dehner with him into the hills of Delta Vega. Captain Kirk followed, determined to put an end to the threat posed by Gary Mitchell. Sensing Kirk's pursuit, Mitchell sent Dehner to intercept him; he hoped she would come to his opinion that mortals were highly insignificant. However, she retained enough of her Humanity to be appalled by Mitchell's actions and sacrificed her life to weaken Mitchell, an act that allowed Kirk to kill him.
Well this time Damon Lindelof is helping!
Oh fuck I didn't know that D:
The Japanese version on apple runs 15 seconds longer. Has a few more shots at the end of the trailer.

He worked on the last one too.
Those extra shots give me major Khan vibes.
