Don't think it's a coincidence that there was a heavy focus on Dragons, Story and Colder environments. I've heard rumours they're going hard after the Skyrim crowd, and willing to do some stuff hardcore DS fans might not appreciate being in 'their' game.

Unless you actually know something do not spread misinformation anyone can say "I heard rumors" but without some evidence you are just a troll.

I really have no idea what people are talking about when they say it didn't look like Souls. The whole time when the trailer was running I was thinking that it totally looks like a Souls game, but that couldn't be it.

Yep. Souls games have a pretty particular look that I find easily recognizable in gaming. I knew instantly it had something to do with the series, especially with Alba's prelude about it being "dark, brutal, and mysterious."

But yeah, couldn't quite believe it was actually being announced. Can't wait for more info on it.

WTF "western blockbuster vibe".

I think people are having an (irrational) adverse reaction to fantastic production values here.

I want to make it clear that any issues I have with this trailer are seriously tiny. That has nothing to do with it giving me a vibe of not being by the same people as any of FROM's prior CG trailers, though.

Anybody else disappointed they just went with Dark Souls 2 instead of something like Dragon Souls?

It's an established IP now on multiple platforms. They really had no choice. Demon's -> Dark was the transition from Sony published to self/Bamco. Introducing another D Souls would just create confusion.

...no, right, but thats the thing. Souls tend to be, awkward? I guess? I mean, the design is very much out there even when playing safe.

This feels like, I dunno, a super high budget east/west collaboration and a liiiiittle bit safe?
You're weird.

That's a weird reaction to a CG mood/atmosphere trailer.

Uh....hmmm.

Can you elaborate any more on this at all?

OK, NEW THEORY: Dark Souls 2 IS A PREQUEL

-female might be Gwynevere (or her mother)

-main dude seems to be decked in prototype Giant's armor

-his fur armor is eerily similar to Gwyn's fur

-dragon looks a lot like kalameet

-mask guys have resemblence to pinwheel/darkwraiths/crystal armor set

Nah not really, I mean the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls universes are separate (with many, many similarities) but since this one seems to take place in the same universe, so there's no need for a new name.

I seem to remember an interview with FROM where they said they would love to continue a game with the Dark Souls universe, even though Demons and Dark have much in common, they're seperate universes.

Music doesn't sound like Sakuraba's.

Are we sure From themselves are working on this? I'd lose my shit if this is being done by another developer.

Hmm, I'd have to take a closer look for that, but it might be possible. Still, I found it instantly recognizable.

From's never been shy about numbering any of their other franchises. They only switched to Dark Souls to demonstrate that it was effectively a sequel to Demon's Souls while remaining legally distinct since Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls. Without that concern there's really nothing holding them back from gettin' numerical.

So weird that I'm playing Dark Souls prepare to die edition on my computer while this got announced on my tv beside me. Really hope we get a pc version day 1.

Not sure why people think it doesn't look like Dark Souls.

Dude in cool armor
Nervously looking around
Dragons
Dank environments
Big boss fight
Aggro a bunch of bullshit guys outta nowhere
Die

Sounds like Dark Souls to me. And the Shy Guys remind me of the Painting Guardians.

One of my favorite games this gen and my GOTY last year.

For someone who has barely touched retail games this year this made my week.

So, so good.

FROM is at the show, so it's probably guaranteed. Demon's Souls didn't have Sakuraba, and Dark Souls actually sounds nothing like any of his work anyways.

I see it too. It has a western blockbuster vibe creeping in if that makes any sense.
Not enough grotesque, dark eurogothic fantasy stuff, I guess

Music was also a bit less inspired when compared to Demon's and Dark

If it was Sigur Ros then you are wrong.

This either takes place in the far past or the far future, but I would shit myself if they somehow finally united the lore of Dark Souls with Demon's Souls.

When I said that the trailer had a more "western blockbuster vibe" I wasnt emplying that the game will share this feel. I'm just talking about the trailer

I'm scared, but for other reasons that people might that

Did you play Dark Souls? Dragons were a huge part of the lore, and were featured prominently in its CG stuff. And the environments don't look cold, they look dark, which is again a huge part of the lore (whether it's a prequel or it takes place after one of the endings).

I really hope the difficulty options read like this literally:
1. Wimp
2. Hard
3. We guarantee that you will break 10 controllers if you select this.

Well, at least some of the Dark Souls trailers had non-game music, so that wouldn't surprise me here. Still, this better not aim TOO hard at a "wider audience", lest we get a Bioware-style sequel (less RPG, more PRESS A TO AWESOME).

From Software tweeted a link to the VGAs and they were coy in earlier interviews about wanting to do another Dark Souls. It's them.

Just because he writes the same stuff for all the Tales/BK games doesn't mean he doesn't have range. If they asked this of him, it could totally be him.

This game clearly looks to me like it's set before Dark Souls, which explains the less grotesque setting and dragons showing up.

Because From would rather be working on this?

Durante, start prepping your DirectX Intercepter. :p (Here's hoping they learned and we won't need it this time).

Sony owns the IP. I mean, can they not put another studio on it? Maybe that's a terrible idea, but you'd think they'd cash in on the name. Can't they pay From a shit ton to have a Demon's sequel for PS4 launch?

Sony is dumb, it just always annoys me that they let Demon's slip.

Sony still owns the rights to Demon's Souls right? If that's the case, I doubt there will ever be any explicit connections.
