I'm annoyed with myself for not noticing the Trek symbol. I mean, it does look a lot more amorphous than the Bat outline among the skyscrapers in the initial TDKR posters. But damn. I'm still annoyed.

Haha.

It was pretty goofy to have a Spanish guy playing an Indian dude in the old universe.

If it IS Bridge Officer Harrisson, and not Khan himself... and IF there is a flashback that shows his interaction with Khan as a brief cameo, I hope he is secretly being played by Naveen Andrews.

Fuckng Khan. Literally the last villain I wanted for this movie. I'd rather it be the fucking salt monster than Khan. Abrams better knock it out of the park.

I don't really care who it is so long as the movie is good.

Though Star Trek 2009 was already Wrath of Khan v3.0

Bit weird that this one is going to be 4.0

Agreed. It's all over. It's fucking Khan after all. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck!

Still don't buy Khan, and certainly not just because of
Carol Marcus. It's not like Marcus was involved in any way with the first encounter with Khan.

No, Mitchell introduced him to the woman who was in Where No Man Has Gone Before who's name I forget.

Denher. Everyone thought Alice Eve would be either Denher or Marcus. People leaned Denher because her hair was more similar to that. If it was Denher, it was basically a guarantee of Gary Mitchell as the villain since it was Denher that lead to his death in TOS and she also ended up with the powers he did, just weaker.

That's the one. But they're both relationships he had early in his career.
Marcus
is definitely more recognizable, though.

Sure, but there's also this Harrison nonsense.

I don't see why this factors in at all. Harrison was in a bunch of episodes and was an Enterprise crew member.

Other than Space Seed? According to imdb, Ron Veto is only credited as Harrison in that one episode. Every other time he's listed as just a generic title, like "security officer".

Herc from Ain't it cool news is thinking the same thing:

Herc said:
In "Space Seed," Harrison was nearly suffocated to death on the Enterprise bridge by unfrozen superman Khan Noonien Singh.

This reminds me of when we learned via press release that Marion Cotillard would be playing Miranda Tate in "The Dark Knight Rises."

It's also not really that clear the person who's named Harrison in Space Seed is Ron Veto. A Harrison was also mentioned in another episode in which he appeared (Naked Time), but not in a way that's directly connected. Really any attempt to build an actual character out of Harrison requires you to make arbitrary decisions about who he was and how many episodes he was in.

It doesn't make any sense anyways. The picture in question
shows Cumberbatch in the brig and is labelled as if Cumberbatch is John Harrison. How does that support Cumberbatch playing Khan? Or Khan being in the film at all?

Herc's speculation is just weird. I don't think that makes any sense as a plot.

Unless his assumed name is John Harrisson throughout the "manhunt" act of the movie... then they capture him "HAHA, my true identity is KHAN NOONIEN SINGH".

This is exactly what I'm afraid of.

There is one way that this could go that I would think is amazing.

Peter Weller is Khan

9 min IMAX spoiler

Maybe Cumberbatch
helps the sick kid by applying some genetic augmentation. Maybe in this timeline Carol Marcus is doing genetic research instead of Genesis.

I have nothing against Benedikt playing Khan. He's a fantastic actor, and Im sure JJ will give him nice material to play with no matter what role he end's up with.

Don't really see why people are so upset about Khan. After all is the whole thing a star trek reboot, right? (i know, I know. Parallel timeline etc. ;To me that's still a reboot)

What don't you see? About the casting if it is him, or about it being him at all?

If Alice Eve is Carol Marcus, it makes it slightly more likely to be Khan than Mitchell.

Not really, since it's a young Carol Marcus.

I already have an excellent Khan movie sitting on my shelf.

I mean "I don't see" in the sense of "I don't understand"

Point taken, but now you're just going to have two excellent Khan movies on your shelf ;)

Yes, but what part of the complaint don't you understand? People have described a few different complaints if it is Khan.

Edit: I believe Docs point is that he doesn't want a third Khan movie, but something new.

Well when I opened the thread I got greeted by posts like this:

So I was a little confused. Maybe I should have read through some of the older pages before posting

I wanted it to be Gary Mitchell, or anyone else but Khan. Khan has been done and done well. Star Trek has a wide range of stories to mine.

Surely the end of the trailer that Japan got all but confirms it's a remake of The Wrath of Khan, no?

That confirms nothing. JJ is obviously screwing with us, so that could be a red herring. Even if it is Khan, I doubt that scene is in the same context as in Star Trek 2.

Peter Weller is Khan

This. I bet
Khan is already dead, and Cumberbach is exacting his revenge--- er, vengeance on the Federation for some reason related to the botany bay... Perhaps Nero told the klingons about Khan while he was captured and they went to get the ship and imprisoned them all

Hmmm, wild speculation but maybe Nero looked into other genocidal weapons before the red beach ball? Like the Genesis device?

Before he died Nero transferred his consciousness into a star-fleet officer. That's why the crew looks so shocked/horrified in the trailer because he's back and now aboard the enterprise.

Works for me, would be pretty cool actually to have it based
around others augments that followed Kahn, Cumberbatch being Joachim?, while he sits around somewhere pulling the strings, or even as we have seen Klingons was found by then and didn't survive?

Who knows, I looked at the IMDB, I had no idea we didn't know who so many actors were playing in the film, which had lead us to all this speculation, it is actually quite nice to have such a big film that didn't announce everything a year beforehand.
