Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

It looks beautifully shot. Rather odd and distracting choice of music for the first half of the trailer though. That music is so instantly recognize as the soundtrack for Gladiator that it completely throws you. At least it looks like it will have a fair amount of emotion, which is more than I can say for most superhero movies. It definitely seems to have Nolan's touch on it.

We already have that in the Avengers.

And we already had this with Nolan's Batman movies. We can have more than one type of anything, as long as it fits with the character's tone. I just don't think it would work here. I would much rather have an Avengers style Superman. Give me Brainiac and Lex Luthor plotting the destruction of Metropolis, and Superman kicking all their asses. Give me humor, Jimmy Olson, cheesy stuff with Lois Lane, and bright high contrast blue and red streaking across a brightly lid daytime skyline.

I really don't like the tone they're going for here. It looks bleak and grim, trying so hard to be more "realistic", but this is fucking Superman. I feel this is part of what really made Superman Returns suffer too - trying too hard to try and make sense of how Superman could fit into the world today. I don't think they need to do that. Just make a big fun colorful movie about an invincible alien who comes to Earth, grows up, and does things we cannot do, making the world a safer place.

You would struggle to understand where you fit in too, if you were an ultra handsome, nigh invincible super being.

I like it. I just hope that the ratio of kid Clark/bearded Clark to Superman is less than it has been in the trailers so far.

It's a fine trailer. Didn't really move me, but I think it's because it hits a lot of the same notes the Superman Returns and comic-con trailer did. I just need to see the movie at this point.

I doubt it. I bet Superman is in this movie for more than 30 minutes.

I think there's room for the moral obligation that comes from having this kind of power. It was touched on a little with Clark saving the kids in the bus. Might be nice to see this kind of theme in a movie that isn't Spiderman.

Ok.

Superman is my least favorite hero of them all. But this trailer. Damn this trailer! It feels so different than other Superman movies. A lot more serious and darker in tone or something. I'm starting to think this film will be actually good. That trailer was really nice.

i agree. its hard to take superman seriously and realistically with his costume and his abilities. they should have made it like a live action "the incredibles" with the avengers scope or something. that would have rocked.

They Batman'd Superman.

If they do go and make this all super serious and brooding and it winds up being a huge success, it will just reinforce the studios thinking that all super hero movies need to be that way.
Of course, Avengers showed you can have a wildly successful super hero movie without bogging it down with doom and gloom.

Then WB will make their Justice League movie, and it will be the entire team sulking and questioning their role in the universe with half the movie draped in shadows. Then they get their team up movie and their brooding.

Obviously I am talking about tone and style, i.e. dramatic "realism." The comic-con trailer donged on this. The movie already takes a giant shit, visually, on anything Singer did in Returns.

I love the look of the movie so much.
the colours, the sun and everything else. that's the one thing snyder does always right

Yeah, Dislike. in my opinion Superman shouldn't be gritty, emotional and sad. It should be colorful (Avengers) with massive earth-shattering destruction, because let's face it Superman has always been about DBZ style battles rather than drama.
