Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

Not really cryptic. And they were shot down. Now they could still include Gordon Levitt and go with the Blake = Batman angle but they would be setting themselves up for failure. The whole dynamic between Clark and Bruce would be lost and you would think the general audience would be far more receptive to the Bruce Wayne Batman than someone who didn't even exist in the comics. I am pretty confident those rumors are just false.

If anything of that rumor is true its the idea of an end scene, maybe after the credits to introdue the Justice League.

And even then a scene like that would mean they shot it well after production wrapped up for MoS. Lets not forget this movie has been done for a while was delayed to summer 2013 to avoid competition with the Hobbit (also a WB release). So it was shot before Avengers and if they are taking their cue from Avengers to hurry up a JL movie, it would mean they shoot something now to add onto this movie.
Blake is
Robin
though.

While not ideal, if they go with JGL as Batman, he would inherit Bruce's angle with Clark.

No he isn't. He is set up to be the next Batman but not even in the literal sense more as in this story is ending but there will always be a Batman way to wrap that self contained universe.

Why would the audience prefer Blake-man or Robin for that matter to the actual iconic Batman?

The Prometheus trailer was basically the whole movie, yet still a better trailer than Man of Steel. Or are we judging based on balance of keeping the story tight/peaking interest? Because in that case Les Mis wins.

I dunno, I like my trailers to give me a sense of the tone without necessarily telling me the entire plot of the movie. Something like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trailer. That's why I like the Man of Steel trailer at least.

Prometheus had a good trailer though, as did Cloud Atlas.

Skyfall teaser wins in that case.

yeah, but I don't really mean teasers either. I mean, you can have a 2:30 trailer that lays down the premise, gives you a good sense of the tone, the characters, etc. without spoiling the entire fucking movie!

Skyfall teaser was good at the time, but it's terrible in retrospect. Fuck that movie's third act. (and a bit of it's second too)

I still remember seeing that trailer in cinemas.

Social Network has the best trailer of the last half-decade. Really just pitch-perfect.

Correct. Everything about that movie's marketing was pitch-perfect, especially that first poster.

I saw a couple people namechecking "Birthright" as inspiration for Goyer's screenplay, but isn't this more closely linked to Geoff Johns' "Secret Origins" arc?

Not that Johns' "Secret Origins" is bad - but it's nowhere near Birthright, which is, along with "Secret Identity" and "All-Star Superman" some of the best Superman ever written.

I guess it's kind of MoS related but Latino Review is dropping hints about a big Justice League scoop tonight on Twitter. Oh and Nolan is still being fucking cagey about JGL as Batman or if Batman even has a cameo in Man of Steel: ""I can't talk about that. You know that," when asked at Museum of the Moving Image's salute to Hugh Jackman.

Also watched the trailer a few more times today. Still glorious and curious to check it out in 3D this Saturday with The Hobbit.

Normally they wouldn't, but it's an option because TDKR set the table so perfectly -- almost as if it's already been planned. Tons of people saw that movie and would be able to accept JGL as Batman as long as they're smart about handling it. People are already hyped about the possibility of him appearing in Man of Steel... He doesn't even have to be in costume, and audiences will be able to make the connection. The payoff to using this arc is much bigger than debuting a new actor for Batman in a couple years, which is just too soon.

And yes he is. :) Knowing this improves the film imo.

JGL as Batman makes no sense, he is not the right personality or body type. Why is it so hard to find a traditional leading man? There are tons of people out there who can play Batman. I want some nasty.

No. Just no.

Really surprised that it wasn't an easy spot for people.
Also surprised that the trailer already has almost 10 million views in just two days.
