I love him so much. His movies are the ones that have had the biggest effect on me. He's my favorite director, I don't even care if I'm looked down by anyone for liking him. It's so unfair you can't like him without being viewed as a pretentious ass.

To be honest Malick's influence on Nolan is not clear to me. At least as clear as Leone's influence on Tarantino.

You're a huge fan of a well regarded, long dead director of films most people have never heard of. No need to act so put upon.

lol, yeah who would look down upon someone for that? Sounds like movie hipster drivel to me. I tell people I like Solaris or Stalker, I don't get hate. I get an ok, that's cool, not my thing, it's long and boring, but that's cool.

i've been wanting to get this off my chest for a really long time now, and i even considered sending it to ronito for the anonymous confession thread, but you know what? fuck it, i'll just say it here.

i think kubrick was a great filmmaker.

if you now think less of me, i don't care. fuck you.

While I agree with others that being outspoken on love for Tarkovsky isn't common, I get where you're coming from, especially given the abstract nature of a lot of his films. I've had friends comment on how his films aren't "about anything", too inaccessible, "too artsy". I think outright love for him is less common with younger filmmakers, or the interest just isn't there.

Have you seen any of Nuri Bilge Ceylan's films? Check out Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. He (and Anatolia in particular) have drawn comparisons to a lot of classical filmmakers, including close comparisons to Tarkovsky in terms of visual style and storytelling.

I think one of Nolan's stronger skills is directly inspired by Malick: use of voiceover and cuts (flashbacks, usually) to simulate memory and evoke an emotional response. Sometimes it is heavy-handed, but it's used very effectively in Memento and The Prestige. It's a bit heavy in Inception/TDK trilogy.

I didn't make that big a deal, I was just saying. No need to be sarcastic bud.

Cool, I haven't seen anything from him. It seems interesting, will watch.

I wanna see Nolans take on The Penguin.

Chubby media mogul who has a fashion quirk of wearing tuxedos for every occasion. The press coined the nickname "the Penguin" for his penchant for wearing "penguin suits".

He's only called "the Penguin" once throughout the entire 3 hour epic.

Like Fury going around after-credits in individual Marvel movies, Alfred now goes around in the individual DC movies.

"How did mastah Wayne get out of the Bat before the nuke exploded?"

That's easy - Superman helped him. DC crossover without us even realising it.

Snyder pretty much stated at Comic-con there would be no connection to JL, that they have to get the Superman house in order first. Nolan going against that means they definitely shoved JGL up in that bitch.

He backpedaled on that pretty recently.

From the sound of it, Man of Steel won't overtly tie into Justice League, but they will likely use Cavill for it.

Yeah but didn't Snyder more recently give a more shaky answer? Dude can't decide what he's saying between all his awesomes and radicals.

Hoping JGL is Batman in JL so we can atleast stop having this fake complaint about how JGL isn't gonna train to be Batman whatsoever and immediately run into the street wearing the suit and get headshotted within minutes.

I've seen the movie three times over again since I got it on Blu-ray. Each time, the ending only gets better, and JGL looks better as a fit to be Batman in JL.

The idea that Robin wouldn't train beforehand is one the oddest complaints i've seen for TDKR. Only on GAF.

I don't see why they have to go with JL. A Batman/Superman movie is enough to make big money. Just throw this fucker out there:

Easy billion dollars.

Because nobody else in the JL is worth caring about. I really hope JL doesn't happen for a long while. I'd like to see DC give us some great standalone Flash movies.

But it doesn't matter what we want, they are GOING to make a Justice League movie for 2015, right? Even though it'd be cheaper (considerign there would be less main characters and universes to work with) and more interesting of a story, they act like World's Finest isn't even an option.

I still want my damn Wonder Woman movie but no. I get a CW show instead.

Aquaman would be chill too, but he's never going to get a solo movie cause DC ruined his reputation.

Seriously. World's Finest. Boom, money made for you. I'd sooner see a Batman/Superman movie than a JL movie.

the JL movie will be a Batman/Superman movie with guys like Aquaman, WW and Martian Manhunter as secondary characters. This is why I think they should just cast Gina Carano as Wonder Woman. She can pull of the physicality and they can give her as few speaking lines as possible, just let her wreck shit. Make her this movies version of The Avengers' Hulk.

Finally watched this. Even with hype at mild levels, TDKR is disappointing in comparison to TDK. Still a great flick, more BB than TDK mixed with elements of its own.

The Avengers is all simple fun and games where there's very little chemistry between the heroes outside of wise cracks. Justice League should be different. The Batman and Superman dynamic has to be real, and it's essential that Wonder Woman have good chemistry with the two of them. While Gina can wreck shit, who knows if she can pull off the rest.
