Nintendo Downloads - December 2012

Shanblue Interactive announces Vampire Crystals will be up on American WiiWare (plus demo) come next Thursday, with EU version coming up Jan 3rd and demo Jan 17.

Last hours for WiiWare, but this game looks beautiful and addictive, and Wii U being compatible with Shop Channel might fix part of its long delay (if Wii mode wasn't THAT hidden, that's it). I just love this kind of shooters, so I'll give it a (co-op) try.

Wiiware's last stand.

Looks good, I'll buy it unless the demo puts me off.

This isn't going to go well. Such a shame WiiWare isn't better integrated in the eShop like on 3DS. DSiWare is still a viable platform thanks to that.

Even something as simple as links that take you to the Wii Shop Channel in Wii mode would have helped.
Yeah, WiiWare is pretty much dead for a while now. Though a 3DS eShop version of Vampire Crystals was announced back in April. That one should get more exposure.

Hmm, maybe Nintendo has now applied their Wii U eShop policies of giving devs control of pricing/sales to the 3DS eShop? Good news if that's the case.

In europe they've just changed to a new system where I can set the price and release date myself and do sales (though there's not much room for lowering the price on Gunman Clive). I'm not sure if/when they'll change to the new system in the US, so it's still Nintendo who'll decide the price there, but hopefully they'll use the price I requested.

Pretty great news in my opinion. Just annoyed that this has yet to come to the NA eshop. I really can't wait to see the prices start dropping as more and more software starts showing up. I'm hoping that the current premium prices go away in the same way they fell when the app store started to fill up. For some reason, I feel much more inclined to buy games on the 3DS eshop than my phone so if prices get to the point where they max out at $7 for premium titles I'll be buying game after game. The prospect of weekly sales is also exciting.

WiiWare game? lolwut

It seems eShop charts are different for every European country. Since nitnendoeverything posts once a week the US Chart, couldn't we do something similar? Just to know how things are possibly doing on the 3DS eShop.

If someone else can do this for Wii U too, it'd be even better.

Here's the Italian charts

I never tested this, but are the number of reviews also country-specific?

They released Megaman 1 on European eShop recently, and MM2 is listed for Q2. Probably, it'll come out at the same date with the US version.

I never tested this, but are the number of reviews also country-specific?

It's something I wanted to test too.
I could say the amount of reviews for some titles and then we could make a comparion with other European countries.

Some examples for Italian eShop:

Pullblox - 1099 reviews
Pokèmon AR Radar - 523 reviews
Colors! 3D - 358 reviews
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 2085 reviews
Liberation Maiden - 113 reviews
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles - 254 reviews

So VLR is available on eShop in Europe and Australia and has been for almost a month, but still not on the US shop? Why?!

Could be a VA licensing issue; I know that's the reason why VLR was able to hit PAL territories so quickly, as they completely dropped the English VA track in its entirety.

I'm going to help Mpl90, these are the number of rewiews of those games in the Spanish eShop:

Pullblox - 1317
RAdar Pokémon - 575
Colors 3D - 346
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 2415
Liberation Maiden - 92
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles - 247

Yeah, they're different.

Yeah, they're different.

At this point, I'm wondering what are the numbers for bigger markets, like UK, Germany and France. Thanks. :D

Oh nice, i was always under the impression that these were european-wide numbers:

Germany, twelve points:

Pullblox - 3244
RAdar Pokémon - 1671
Colors 3D - 1588
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 7416
Liberation Maiden - 213
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles - 587
Denpa Men - 167

Oh yeah. Heropon, DNF...post your countries' charts, if you can. :)

It would be nice to see a second wind for WiiWare games, heck it may have encouraged Nintendo to release some of their Japan only games to the service like Line Attack Heroes or that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game that came out on WiiWare.

That just shows you how little Nintendo cares about WiiWare, they have a Pokemon game on it, one of their highest selling franchises but won't bring it out of Japan because WiiWare gets soo little attention from most gamers its not worth it for them.

Sweden:

Pullblox - 709
Pokémon dream radar - 129
Colors 3D - 289
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 748
Liberation Maiden - 52
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles - 71
Denpa Men - 15

I too had assumed the numbers were for all of europe. It makes me slightly more optimistic about the sales, but of course, the sales to review ratio varies greatly from platform to platform and from game to game, so it's still impossible to really deduce anything from it.

Well, knowing that, for example, a game like Colors hasn't as lowest level of sales 289 but 289 + 1588 + 346 + 358 + many other countries not represented so far should be at least a little more than just "slightly more optimistic". XD

I'll do my part this week, though. :D

Edit: Weird, it's the same with what beril posted. I assume some smaller markets share their shops...

UK:

Pullblox - 4147
Pokémon dream radar - 927
Colors 3D - 1316
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 4285
Liberation Maiden - 224
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask - 407

It's interesting to see that Pullblox and Liberation Maiden have more ratings here than Germany while everything else is reversed.

Oh, the reviews being country-specific does change things a lot. Suddenly the numbers in the Brazil eShop have an entirely new meaning. Now I understand why we're getting more games in Brazilian Portuguese: some games (both retail and download) have quite a good number of reviews if you consider the system never reminds people about the review feature.

Maybe i'm overthinking this, but:

for example Denpa Men is catigorised as RPG. if we search RPG and sort by Popularity it is ranked over Gargoyles Quest (193 reviews). so it can be narrowed down a bit more. reviews for ambassodor and retail games are misleading.

I had never even heard of Gunman Clive until I read about it on here the other day, now its coming out in a few days and I'm very much anticipating it. Looks awesome as.

Feels good not to have to wait long lol.

I wonder if Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked and the other Atlus published games (Code of Princess and the coming Etrian Odyssey IV) will ever be added to the 3DS eShop. Persona 4 Golden was sold on PSN so Vita owners could buy and download it.

Has Atlus ever talked about this?

Ended up buying Harvest Moon from the eShop. Fun so far but like all HM games the start is so slow but looking forward to more options opening up. Still not sure about Crimson Shroud. So far good things are being said and I would like an RPG to play on the 3DS.

Nice. Thanks.

Edit: I think getting Harvest Moon was the tipping point. So much more convenient having it on the system. Will still get phsyical copies of games but think I'm going to be doing a lot more purchasing of retail games off the eShop.

Yep, it's just ridiculous I have to download my 100+ VC/WW games again just because Shop Channel wasn't integrated/imported to eShop AND because it didn't recognize my SD original downloads. Besides, I lost DKC trilogy and Lost Winds.

TBH, WiiWare seems like such an awful platform that I don't understand why anyone has bothered to support it for the past year or so.

Yeah, past year I agree. But first years it looked rather promising for many little devs. Concept was cool, execution and evolution almost non-existant. Still, some gems in there I won't forget.

For this guys, I guess a Wii U version would require some re-drawing + Stylus optional controls + Off TV.

Shit, did I just say stylus pointing or IR pointing ala Geometry Wars Galaxies? :-0____

It helps that the developer is a gaffer :-)

If reviews are positives then I will buy it for sure.

Harvest Moon is definitely a game I recommend getting on download. I don't think I would have played that game that much had I bought it on cart. It's definitely the type of game you always want to have around.

It helps that it's one of the series' best entries.

Wait, price drop of Chasing Aurora and Little Inferno? So I'll be conditioned to do the steam-like buying (when there is a sale) now? That's kinda good, kinda bad I guess.

@ Bertil: Good luck in advance :) Like said already, will buy twice.

It's wonderful, you should! I've completed it on PC so far, it's also on iOS (and Android I believe). It's a great little throwback to games like Mega Man and Bionic Commando, well worth the paltry sum being asked.

The Donkey Kong Country games don't make the transfer either? I've been hemming and hawing on pulling the "transfer trigger," but until I see a real list of what doesn't make it I think I'm just going to leave my Wii "hooked up." Which it isn't right now (sigh, want to get back to DKC: R...) because the Wii U can't output audio from its AV port and video from HDMI at the same time, but that's a different ball of wax altogether.

Tthe DKC games made the Transfer, I was able to redownload my copy of DKC2, also R-Type 3 which has also been pulled from the shop. Any game thats been pulled from the store you'll still be able to redownload to your WiiU, its just people won't be able to buy them anymore.

Oh, I got ya. I didn't realize those games had been pulled from the shop. Pretty weird, considering Nintendo outright owns them.
It might be something to do with Rare having made the games and some sort of contract that only allowed them to be sold on the Wii and not the WiiU, but who knows.

Famicom Wars and Milon's secret castle for JP 3DS VC next week. (Man, they sure are cranking out those Famicom titles...)

There's a Project X Zone demo out too, weirdly enough.

Edit: Two demos, even!

Ugh, NoA should be embarrassed at their Virtual Console output.

Also, is this the first Hudson Virtual Console release since Konami trashed them to make sixty more Metal Gear games?

Yeah, they really should. Even NoE's stepped it up this past year.

And I think they released one of the GB Bomberman games earlier this year too, so it's probably the second.
