Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

Did any of these guys play the new Giana Sisters? Surprised it wasn't mentioned in best looking game at all given the games they mentioned.

I own that game and don't think it looks all that good. Graphically it's great- but there is something about the style which feels really off.

I actually thought about that too. I figured the decent mp balanced it out for him but hearing his thoughts in these podcasts, it def seems like he overgraded it. Or (good timing with Brad above) he was able to see past the shittiness because of how much they were invested in that series by then.

Same thing with Assassin’s Creed III. Ryan gave it 4 stars yet pushed it for most disappointing? I cannot fathom that. I didn't even know they were down on the game until yesterday.

Disappointing does not mean bad. Not sure why this has to be restated over and over and over every year this category comes back. Most Disappointing is the game with the largest discrepancy between expectations and experience.

Same reaction. Figured he'd throw ME under the bus. Why do these games get reviewed so high..sigh..

Yeah but all the other guys commented on AC3 - story stuff sucks, chases suck, ending sucks, crafting sucks, everything related to main game sucks, pvp whatev. And Ryan agrees.

4 stars!!

Edit: bleh double post.. On my phone!

Is most disappointing game, not worst game. The same reason why Halo 4 has 4 stars but is not anywhere in GB the best lists.

Yeah... Makes me think that maybe Tom chick got it right all along. Rate games not by the bullet points, but by personal enjoyment or disappointment.

Then the review becomes kind of useless, or at least for the person that is reading it for.

Maybe I am just misremembering, but I don't recall Ryan bringing any of the same issues up around release. I guess that $200 flag bought Ubi another star.
kidding

No it isn't, it's the most useful reviewing system there is as long as you pay attention to the reviewer and know if your tastes are similar. I know what Tom Chick likes and dislikes so I know exactly how useful his reviews are. Giant Bomb 4 stars everything and is overly kind in their written reviews, so I know that the only useful reviews those guys give is on the podcast or in Quick Looks. That's when you find out what they really think.

That's cause Halo was overgraded as well..

Then you kind of agree fundamentally with Jeff opinion...

Well, the GB's guys already kind of do this, but not in the condescending and less than reflective tone that Tom Chick at his worst gets. I'm just talking that you need a balance, in either way. Yeah, tastes counts a lot but sometimes you need to see a work for what it is and not for you want it to be.

And Jesus Christ, at least Brad seems to get that these threads would be way more awkward if they responded to all the positive stuff that's said about them. I feel that that's the thin line that separates our threads from their official forums and we still have the occasional discussion about Jeff's feet's sweat's taste.

This is the problem with the guys doing a multiplayer category. To think that GW2 wasn't even mentioned is crazy. Or Planetside 2. Then again Jeff has dismissed PS2 after what an hour playing it? PS2 has problems but SOE have done many things right with it, and the F2P mechanic within it. I think his main gripe was the time required to earn certs to level up your class and vehicle. Not really a problem if you are good at the game:)

I know it is all personal opinion, and I never really get heated about people disagreeing with me but as a fan of playing multiplayer games this made me cringe. I would rather that they drop it, and play to their strengths.
They said at the beginning of that category that they were judging the games based on what types of multiplayer they enjoy, and they have a proclivity for co-op and more casual type of multiplayer. PS2 is pretty awesome, but it's the last game I'd expect any of them to enjoy. Guild Wars as well.

reviewing a game because it was "disappointing" is hardly fair. That term refers to preconceived notions that the reviewer carried into the game. Review the game for it's merits. If you expected it to be a 5/5 but it's a 4/5 then its disappointing...that doesn't make it a poor game.

I just sent the CollectSHUN video to a friend who doesn't follow Giant Bomb, and his reaction was priceless. "Is this...real?" I had to explain that the video is ostensibly a parody but that Jeff REALLY owns all that stuff so there's a bit of reality in there. Ancillary benefit: this friend now questions his gun collection and realizes he might have a problem. So....win, win...win?

I don't watch the real hoarding shows but it seems like there's a pretty distinct line between collecting and hoarding. Hoarding is mental illness, unsanitary/hazardous living conditions, isn't it?

Give the guy some credit. They are museum quality copies of Samurai Showdown. When it's your responsibility to keep the history of all videogames alive, you don't leave things to chance!

Sorry to hear, Dutch Slayer. Don't worry about that stuff, your personal issues are far more important.
Thank you I really appreciate that!
(Back from work btw).

Thank you all again for the warm feeling I had at work today because of your kind reactions, that really helped a lot at work today!

For everyone who missed why the op is not updated:
Sorry everyone for not updating, had a death in the family yesterday.
So do not really know when the next OP update will take place :(.

Update when I can.

Even though I have said it before I really really do thank you all for the reactions it meant the world to me.
