HDD/nv-RAM combo?
Cloud?
Neurons?
Which is more powerful: GTX680 or HD 7970?
I was in a brief PM convo with someone on GAF who seems to have had confirmation that PS4 will have an HD7970 equivalent.
Probably a hybrid drive then.

Would be VERY impressive if true.
I use Hybrid Drive for my PS3 which I bought on sale for $100.

If properly optimized for the console, it can do wonders.
Don't know how I feel about that, still a normal hdd?
Sounds... expensive. $699 anyone?
ReadyDrive (not to be confused with ReadyBoost) is a feature of Windows Vista that enables Windows Vista computers equipped with a hybrid drive or other flash memory caches (such as Intel Turbo Memory) to boot up faster, resume from hibernation in less time, and preserve battery power.
Doesnt the PS3 BR drive only read at 1x speed? What speed will PS4 and 720 run at? 4x?

A proper hybrid drive isn't very good from what I've heard for everyday scenarios. Instead, something like Apple is doing with its fusion technology is much more interesting. Store the OS, saved games and cache onto the SSD. Large storage (game content downloads) goes onto the the regular HDD.
There will be a ssd.
Wait till you guys see how Microsoft is handling memory for your content.
You all have no idea.
Edit:
Well not a ssd but a storage device that offers speed like a ssd.![]()
It all boils down of how it's used then. May be cool.
Man it's still only January, so much rumors it's crazy.
Yeah but maybe MS doesn't agree with you. Does that make them stupid?
It's not a question of being in agreement with me, it's a question of avoiding yield issues.

I can't see MS going with a hybrid drive. They're going to go with the cheapest drive possible.
It's more than four cores.
O yea
And it will be proprietary. Microsoft is good at making money.
It's more than four cores.
Is it though....if it's AMD based, wont it be 4 'proper cores' with 2 threads each..?
In the same way AMD FX CPU's are 8 cores, but not really..

It might be 2 blocks of 4 cores, jaguar cores, going by the rumor.

Interesting, this on Xbitlabs..
"The amount of cores in one Jaguar-powered accelerated processing unit can be up to four."
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/di...ext_Generation_Jaguar_Micro_Architecture.html
So could indeed be some kind of weird custom dual Jaguar APU setup...
7800GTX had a 600$ cost alone (the whole PC would be 1500$+) and xbox 360 whole only had a 300$ cost
I bought one for 450 in 2006. That was expensive but it ran Oblivion better than the 360 at higher res as well.
Good investment if you ask me, and I don't think current hardware is going to struggle much to run console ports better considering the next-gen consoles are not powerhouses (if the specs are correct).
I find myself again falling back to "nothing in durango is easily comparable to currently available consumer parts." More than 8 logical processors. Probably less than 16.

Sure it will have some custom optimisations compared to the consumer parts, but if its based on jaguar tech, the level of performance wont be too far removed as to make it a pointless comparison.
I bet the clock speeds on the Durango will be substantially lower than the home PC ones in order to meet power and heat constraints of a small confined console with limited cooling, meaning much higher clocked PC jaguars would easily match the performance of a custom tweaked durango.

See this is very weird to me.
I'm not super knowledgable on the processors and RAM and the like, but I know enough to be dangerous.
The general consensus is seemingly that these specs are even somewhat above the expected range of what would be in next-gen consoles.
The devkits would indicate otherwise.
Out of curiousity, if you know about the dev kits, why not run a news story about it? NDA?
The devkits would indicate otherwise.
Not enough sources willing to go on the record. We actually have pretty strict standards on the site about this kind of thing. But I've heard from enough sources to be reasonably confident about certain things, and be somewhat confident about other things. Like I've said, I'm not worried about being wrong, though I don't believe that I am.
Do the devkits now have final silicon?
lol... MS Ninjas are on their way to you.![]()
