I'm not ruling this out, but I'd expect SSB4 to come out first.

Especially if SSB4 is criticized for being too casual, I might expect Sakurai to feel guilty and throw us a bone. He's already acknowledged and apologized about Brawl.

Really, this is the HD port. With a solid online system, this game could go on for a very, very long time.

Wow did he? Is there a link or anything to this?

This gives me hope that the next Smash will be less casual online also.

3DA2

Let's get our minds off the hype for a sec.
Yah right, lol

What are you all doing to kill time before all hell breaks loose? Besides abusing the F5 button. :p
You son of a..! Oh fennekin is so cute!

I'm remembering this second hand so my mind may have exaggerated a bit, but I'm sure he made some sort of acknowledgement that Brawl didn't live up the expectations of Melee players. He didn't regret his decision, but he expressed sympathy iirc.

Nope
it was found on Miiverse
HERE, FULL STORY

Ah there we go, thanks!

When was this?

EDIT:

And this is why I don't trust the man with the franchise anymore.

I would love if nintendo released all the mario 64 and by extension NSMB DS minigames on the 3ds eshop with more if possible.

So many wasted hours with that tranporine minigame and luigi's card games.

And this is why I don't trust the man with the franchise anymore.

It's better than being clueless, at least. And it's what makes me think that a Melee remake might show up sometime.

Brawl had problems other than being too casual though, SSB4 has the chance to improve on those.

Here's an interview with him...

http://www.1up.com/news/masahiro-sakurai-reflects-super-smash

Here he said Melee was the best game in the franchise, but he also said that Melee was "too difficult" and wasn't accessible enough, so Brawl's "greater accessibility" was necessary.

I don't think he ever outright APOLOGIZED for Brawl, unless someone can find another interview with him.

But I do believe this means we'll see more of a healthy medium between Brawl's casual-ness and Melee's hardcore-ness.

Basically, no tripping.

Semi-expecting Yoshi Land & Diddy Kong Racing just cause that's all that's been rumoured much. Though i think these are odd games for Nintendo to release now, assuming Yoshi is 2D when we just had 2D Mario, and DKR will obviously double up with an inevitable Mario Kart. Obligatory hoping as ever for new Wave Race & F-Zero, thought Starfox is more likely given Miyamoto's at least mentioned it in a non-stupid manner.

Frankly i hope they haven't wasted any resources on GC for Virtual Console. I don't understand the fascination, didn't everyone get their Gamecube kick out of BC on the Wii? Particularly now that there's barely a satisfactory solution for GC controls too.

Or a Wii U Virtual Console for that matter. For me personally i played and still have everything i want from the old generations (and would rather buy physical on Ebay if i didn't). It must take a significant amount of resources on an ongoing basis to populate the Virtual Console even at the slowest trickle speed, it's just not worth it when they could be using the resources to make new games.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a Fire Emblem on the Wii U, but I don't think that's going to happen (any time soon, at least). I see them riding out the insane momentum created by Awakening on the 3DS. I just don't see why it'd appear on the Wii U given the fact that Awakening's opening demolished PoR's and RD's LTD (hell, even Shadow Dragon and New Mystery opened quite a bit higher). For the time being, I think FE's future is on the 3DS.

Sounds like Sakurai lol.

I really hope he gives us the Smash we need, but don't deserve right now.

Eh, close enough. The point is that he understands the difference.

I don't think his assessment is correct, though. Melee didn't have trouble catching on. You can play it a lot without being very good as many people have done for years.

Even ignoring that, though, Melee is just a really well put together game, unlike Brawl which is a disorganized and overambitious mess.

I have a hard time believing all of this Yoshi's Land talk. Look at the other game titles in that list from the hacked Miiverse... seems to me they just out in a bunch of silly names for testing.

As for the Future Shop/Best Buy listings... Since they came up after the leak, I can only assume someone at the company saw the leak and hastily put it up without thinking.

I feel like I played a different Brawl than everyone else.

I can see how it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes and could definitely see why fans of Melee would dislike it, but the general consensus seems to be that it's actually poorly built and designed.

I'm no game analysis rube or anything but the claims that Brawl is just outright terrible just fly right past me.

And published it in a magazine? Really?

Yeah, I don't get it myself.

I too am the same. It's a bit slower, but still a ton of fun.

I completely disagree with this. Aside from the tripping, I thought Brawl was by far the better game.

Balance wise it was bad. Tis some what floaty, removed some nice tricks like L-cancel, combos are near impossible with the lowered hitstun, somewhat slow and other things.

Those issues aside I still enjoy it.

Yeah, but it wasn't designed to specifically please a very niche population of gamers, so thus it's awful forever and Sakurai is a worse designer than Dennis Dyack and Derek Smart combined.

I seriously hope you're not downplaying the modes, extras, and music.

The problem being that it had many useless features and they spent a majority of their time working on a terrible aspect of the game that given its' genre shouldn't have had that much thought put into it, and if it did then at least make something that wasn't as horrible as the end result. Aside from that, it just meant that the resources gone into working with a rather useless mode took away from things a game like this actually needed, like better online.

This isn't even remotely true, Brawl disappointed almost in every category for me.

The problem being that he's focusing on its', from what it sounds like anyway, instead of all the other mistakes he made. Mainly a terrible online and worse campaign mode.

I'm imagining a 2.5D Yoshi game with crayon textures and physics.

I'm imagining four player co-op.

I'm liking what I'm imagining.

I really liked Brawl too (in fact, I like it more overall!), but it does have a few weird shortcomings compared to Melee.

Like, trophies. Seriously, Melee had all of these totally original trophies that reimagined Nintendo characters of years past, and most of Brawl's trophies were model rips from GC and Wii games.

And it is weird how the usefulness of characters got so messed up; in Melee you could do well with just about any character except, like, Pichu. A third of Brawl's characters felt like you shouldn't even bother with them.

Let's not get crazy here.

I guess I'm in the minority but I don't want Melee + online, I don't want more Brawl, I want Sakurai to continue to make each game a different flavor. If you want to play Melee, it still exists, we can (and are) still playing it.

This isn't even remotely true, Brawl disappointed almost in every category for me.

It's almost like you're two different people.

Yeah, Trophies was definitely a notable downgrade from Melee. There were a few original models, but they were all obscure characters like from Magical Vacation, some Japanese-only mecha game, and Squitter the Spider.
