Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Would this be any fun to play solo?

I'd like to give Monster Hunter a shot but none of my friends want to play with me, and co-op focused games in general are kind of off-putting to me.

Don't listen to the naysayers above. I played hundreds of hours of MH before ever trying its online part. It was already in the top 3 all-time franchises for me by then. Team hunting is endless fun, but personally I still prefer running through the single player alone first, to get the more epic feeling of taking down the beasts alone.

Take a look at the MH wiki or some walkthrough if you face issues with forging armors and you should be fine. I'm not a 'hardcore' player, of MH or anything else, and I easily fell in love with the series shortly after starting it. On my own.

1) Soloing is fun.

2) Getting your ass handed to you by monsters constantly, or being the reason your co-op team fails a quest is not fun at all. Learning how to solo monsters makes you a better player, and makes your online experience more enjoyable for many reasons.

3) You can always grab a longsword and pretend like you're Travis Touchdown.

Nothing wrong with playing offline. But please feel free to try the online co-op out. Your team it set and your personal progress is saved on a quest-by-quest basis in a very discrete fashion, and it might perhaps be tolerable for you. Playing with "randoms" is not inherently a bad thing, and you can/will find people who you enjoy playing with.

I agree with this, I had about 500 hours in MHFU, 400 in Portable 3rd and about 200 in MH3U and maybe half of those hours were playing by myself because fighting monsters solo is really a lot of fun.

I'll also vouch for the game being fun in single player. I think I got a hundred hours out of it in Tri.

The key is that there are a few different ways to play through the game. You can stop an enemy and wreck them with bombs to speed up the fight. You can go in with minimal gear and make it a drawn-out fight.

Truth. I think multi-player is a tad more enjoyable but single player is still a blast.

Yep. The sense of accomplishment gained from hitting those high ranks solo feels awesome. Not to say that it is for everyone. My good friend just has no fun alone in this game, he doesn't enjoy the grind or the difficulty.

Online is a blast for totally different reasons. It all comes down to what you enjoy doing in the game. It is truly one of the most love it or hate it games I know of.

I typically solo monsters first to understand them so I don't hold back my teammates. Plus half the fun is learning all the monsters' tells and it would get spoiled by teammates that already know what to do.

yep! Tri was my first and I played the single player exclusively all the way through before even touching online.

And with monster hunter freedom unite on psp I put in over 500 hours just by myself because I couldn't play online.

Single player is a blast if you enjoy a challeng.

Let them know.

Also, the online mode has its own tempo, you don't have time to figure out how to forge weapons, mix items, change equipments, etc... People are waiting for you to get ready so they can finally start a quest.

Newcomers SHOULD spend time playing offline, it's a disgrace when newbies go online right off the bat, you might even end up hating the game because you won't know what to do, you gonna feel lost. If you play offline, you will learn how to play Monster Hunter properly.

Personally, I can't wait to do some solo quests. THIS TIME IM GONNA KILL ALATREON BY MYSELF

If it isn't announced overseas by the beginning of March, I guess I'll have to jump on this.
Already jumped lol, at any rate if Nintendo doesn't release it to the west when MH3U comes out I doubt it'll ever come tbh. We're lacking in many CPP games in comparison to Japan. Feel sorry for left handed Kid Icarus players -.-;

When should we start a GAF NNID list of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate online players for the OT? Hopefully we can cross region. But think we're probably have to state our regions as well =/

I have never played a MH game ever so for me I am gonna be starting solo and not touching online for a good while.

It's not... Region locked is it?
Can't believe I had to ask that

Also, Monster hunter 3 ultimate double pack

was hoping we may have got £60 for both but I guess £70 is the cheapest we will see. Cant see amazon beating this.

Was orginally planning to go DD on 3DS version but that will probably be priced @ £39.99 so retail it is.

WTF! amazon have the Wii U pre-order up. £49.99

3DS £36.95

Heads up, Sven confirmed on Ask Capcom that Bradygames is working on a guide for this game that contains "chunks" of the guide from Japan.

For those who don't know about it, that guide was 1200 pages thick.

Tri never had a guide did it?

This I'll buy, I don't usually buy guides anymore, I even broke tradition and didn't buy the Black & White guide even though I didn't fail to get the four previous gens' guides.

I'll probably get X & Y's guide.

I don't see a problem going online as a noob, you just need a party of friends or friendly players who don't mind teaching you how to hunt as a team. I remember hunting with my cousin who came weeks after MonHun 3 release, and when he confronted a Rathian by accident, it was soooo funny to see him freaking out. :D

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| (Auto) Target that claw!

Should be refined though.

Has it been confirmed whether the online is going to be region locked or not? It's gonna be major pain if it's a repeat of Tri.

Is there any mention of a Wii U bundle much like the one in Japan coming to the US?

Also. Is there any chance of DLC or will we have to wait for MH4?

Even if it doesn't include everything I might still get it. Probably a good starting point and maybe it will include some artwork? I dont know the original guide so if someone knows please tell me.

And images of all weapons etc. The original JP one is just a great-looking, well-designed lexicon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xftpcYcauqg

Lots of genuinely helpful stuff even if most of it does end up online eventually. I'm already itching to hear more about this translation.

See video above. All sorts of stats , item percentages, item combinations, weapon trees, armor stats, monster damage charts, etc

From the localization notes:
We were vehemently against using the name “Froggi” because people would automatically visualize a frog in their minds, which this monster obviously is not!

Yeah I'm just gonna stick with Froggi. Looks like they kind of missed the point.
