rewatching Lois And Clark and Teri Hatcher's Lois is the most well rounded of all

Her first 10 episodes shows more depth to the character than the all the others combined.


I still like the other ones mind you, but Teri Hatcher is the best representation.


EDIT: Durance got ALOT better in the latter seasons

Spanish fansite Superman Javi Olivares has covered this "cameo." It comes from video taken a year back during the Chicago leg of the Man of Steel shoot. Henry Cavill's Clark Kent, sans glasses, is riding a bike in downtown Metropolis.

Take a look at the mild-mannered, fedora and possibly glasses wearing extra in the background. The theory is this is "Christopher Reeve" – a symbolic way of passing the torch to Cavill and saying "Out with the old, in the new?"

I'll have to disagree on Hatcher being well rounded. She felt a bit dumb and phony in terms of her performance, and the show itself was always written in such a weak, goofy way that her acting chops never got much time to shine through. The sheer volume of cheese and lack of depth on that show didn't give her any real opportunity to do anything with the role for me.

Erica & Dana were both ball busters, Dana moreso. Dana basically defined everything that was missing from live-action Lois Lanes without coming off like a super-duper 90s feminist. Erica got better material as the show went on and honestly became the best cast member in the final two seasons for the most part. Everything from
her discovery of Clark's secret
onward was top-notch for her in terms of performance- she never phoned it in, even during the terrible episodes. She gave Welling something to work with once Rosembaum left and brought to life all the qualities Lois embodies in the comics & 90s animated show. You really got to understand why she'd love Superman for more than just his power and watching Lois wait
for Clark to tell her his secret
was great, original material for the franchise.

Now, I think it goes without saying that I've been pretty pro-Man of Steel for a while now. I'm a big Superman fan and think the movie is looking great, but I have to admit... the last two Empire "photos" of Cavill in the suit have left me confused. I can't tell what color his suit is anymore, considering the disparity between this, the trailers, some other screen-caps from the movie, etc. I'm hoping it's more genuine blue in the finale movie, which is what the trailers look like... so I shouldn't be worried.

It all has to do with how its filmed etc and again with who's taking these photo's. I don't think it will be as dark on film (like you said based on footage), heck it's all been confusing since some released shots you don't even see any yellow in the S shield (the first teaser poster no yellow either). I still don't mind though if it's this dark blue, I found the returns suit to be such a shitty blue that anything looks better than that color to me. I think the darker blue helps the red stand out more. At least he doesn't look like evil supes from Superman 3 which is was how the red looked on Routh in Returns and that messed with my head.

Honestly at this point I just want a great movie with great acting. I'm done worrying about colors, lack of S-curls, trunks etc like I did when Returns came out. None of it makes for a better movie in the long run and everyone can see.... even if they don't like the suit that Cavill was at least the right choice looks wise for Superman. Dude could be ripped out of the pages of the comic and I haven't said that about any of the actors to portray Supes since Reeve.

As for Hatcher as Lois, totally agree with you. Durance was the best Lois on screen in her last couple of seasons. She owned that role after a bleh start.

It's just the pitch. The guy works on several Adult Swim shows, I don't see a problem with him filming the pitch from his office webcam.

I have no idea if they did, but the dude is huge and the suit might have some extra padding, but not much. I'm sure this will bring on the shirtless pics that DMczaf has stored on his desktop.

I'll agree that the show overall was written rather goofy, but the 1st season was no where near as bad as the later seasons. It was actually pretty tame, in comparison. Actual criminals that led to big stories instead of freaks of the week that challenged Superman. I also thought the 1st season brought a real vulnerability to Lois even though she was this focused female reporter.

I felt her phony ego added to the realism of it all. We all know someone who believes their the shit, and we can see it as clear as day. It doesnt help that she often gets praised for her work so it only adds more hot air to her inflated ego. When that gets challenged by a new reporter in Clark, who she then ends up forced to partner up with, her world (the only one she knows because her personal life is a wreck) begins to crack making her become desperate and insecure because it's all she really has. This makes her do dumb things.

Lois constantly trying to stay top dog shows how her work means everything to her and the fact that she has that vulnerability says alot about her personality and why she would fall for Superman instead of being a solid independent woman who doesn't need a man.
Her loneliness as well as her life uncovering the truth in a world full of lies makes her attraction to the good and honorable Superman even more powerful than the fact he simply saved her life a bunch of times.

I especially liked the fact that Clark wasn't afraid to challenge Lois if she got out of hand. It seems like Clark is a doormat when it comes to Lois on TV. Because of Clark's unwillingness to back down, they played very well off each other both, when they butted heads and when they finally saw eye to eye. It just made it seem even more plausible for her to fall in love with Clark over Superman, because she got to see the many sides to him and know the real him.

So basically because of Clark, Hatcher's Lois was more believable in my eyes because their Love Hate relationship felt more real than the other versions.

Dana played Lois great in the animated series because it was a strong different version of her (which she nailed perfectly)... but they really didn't do much outside of that other than setting up the next rescue.

I agree that Durance acting was top notch in the final seasons, but in the beginning Lois as a character wasnt necessary and felt more like Chloe 2.0 until they finally got out of Smallville and moved to Metropolis. It was almost like a caricature of Lois in the beginning than a real person with real motivations and needs that I felt Hatcher's version had.

Coming home from work and seeing the new stills again....I'm digging the glimpse of Krypton's architecture in the background of the Jor-El photo and relieved they seem to going as far away from the Crystal/Ice stuff from the Donner version and comics.

I'm excited seeing Shannon as Zod and watching him knock it out of the park, the CG armored suit is looking good...even if we've only seen the shoulders. I honestly really love the design of the suit and have no real qualms over the colors either. To be perfectly honest I think they did a much better job modernizing the suit than DC did for the 52 comics.

There may be still a MOS Super Bowl spot, at least Latino Review seems to think so.

I wish I wasn't typing this on my Galaxy, but I can see your point. The thing is, I found Durance to embody all those things you're saying about Hatcher. Her insecurities fueled her work ethic, her rivalry with Clark being warranted and Clark not being a pushover (something TAS did too, to be fair), etc. I guess what puts her over the edge for me, Erica that is, is her superior acting, better scripts, stronger character arc, and some of those scenes in seasons 9 and 10 she had with Tom.

One thing I think we can both agree on is that Hatcher started out strong and got weaker and vice versa for Erica. Both are products of the writing, though.
 
Durance is also hotter... fake boobs and all.

Definitely!

Even though I favor Hatcher more, I commend Erica for making me fall for her Lois after several years of poor writing forcing her into the story.
