Asks questions so Ezalc doesn't have to
Nomura's already directing it. Been in "development" for nearly 7 years now.
Your right but getting rid of Toriyama is only going to fix the awful painful story and characters what about the tedious dull un-engaging game play how well they fix that without outside help.
He wrote like 5 songs on the 2nd SH.... that's all. It's Hirota you should be missing!
In the absence of the Ito, FFXIV ARR is as close to FF12 as we can get (actually I found FFXIV ARR is an evolution of FF12 in many ways). It is a shame that not all the FF fans play MMOs, including me.

I hope not.
They should bring back that Ito and have another God-tier Ito do the soundtrack.
KENJI ITO MOTHERFUCKER, COME BACK TO ME
Toriyama just needs to have his leash pulled.
I mean, the guy has produced some really unique ideas in the past and has contributed positively to some major FF productions. His direction is actually pretty good when you look at it from a base level. The problem (at least with XIII) is in the script and pacing. Toriyama cannot seem to adapt when those two aspects get out of control.
What is one thing that many people credit FFX for doing brilliantly with its more linear design? Pacing.

FFX's script was also a lot more tight and had a great balance between the emotional journey of the central characters, as well as the state of the world in the background. I think a lot of that can be credited to a veteran like Nojima.
FFXIII's script tried to do that as well, but wasn't nearly as nuanced and tried to pack in so much information that it just became messy. When you have to rely on the audience to do their own research in order to understand critical story/world details, you are doing something wrong.
Somehow Toriyama has a ton of control now and has been able to headline not one, but two sequels to probably the most critically disappointing FF in the series. How does this happen? Do I even blame Toriyama for that? Not necessarily.
He just did the soundtrack for Devil Survivor 2, though!
I hated everything about 10, and to me it represents the shift between classic Final Fantasy titles and the new wave of suck. If it wasn't for his work on FF7, the man would be absolutely worthless in my eyes.
I didn't HATE 10, but I strongly disliked it and ya, it was the beginning of this terrible new linear approach to the series.
bro chill down with gilgamesh. he's like your waifu or something.
And I'd be totally okay with Ito directing.
Did someone mention GILGAMESH?
Wasn't Kitase involved with VI?
He was. Ito and Kitase co-directed it. Kitase was more story though while Ito handled the game design.

Hiroyuki Ito (director and game designer), Isamu Kamikokuryo (FFXIII art director), Tetsuya Nomura (character designer), and Nobuo Uematsu + Masashi Hamauzu (music) will be a nice team.
I wonder, could anyone who owns the Dissidia Duodecim Ultimania actually verify this? It seems pretty unbelievable to me that they would hint at "large-scale, unannounced project" in such a way, especially because it sounds exactly like something that one super Ito fanboy at GameFAQs (Galvanize, or whatever his name was) would make up.Also, there are quotes about him being too busy to even meet with designers briefly when Dissidia 012 was coming out and they were working on Vaan. They had to mail it to him for email correspondence saying what he thought of it. What was he so busy with?
If ever he directs FFXV, I hope the story and setting isn't as boring and wordy as FFXII's.
In terms of wordiness, FFXII takes the cake over FFXIII.
Forgive my ignorance on the matter... These 'ultimania interviews' have been mentioned in a couple places in the thread. Any information on where I might find these? Links or anything? Thanks
I think Hiroyuki Ito (KH CoM/TWEWY/KH 358/KH Re:Coded/FF ATB) will direct FFXV.
You can read the one he did after FFXII International Zodiac Job System here:

(Yo, GZay, don't just post it without giving the translator some credit! It was yours truly.)
I loved that system and how they were used it in FFT. He has some great ideas. He also created ATB and the FF5 job system.
I can't believe people still think Toriyama would have any influence on 15.
I can't believe people still think Toriyama would have any influence on 15. The only reason FFXIII-2 and LR came out was because XIV failed, Versus is STILL not ready, and XV was not far enough in development to be released this year.
Oh fuck yeah! Kenji Ito such a ballar.

I would be all for something similar to FFIX just as long as it has nothing in common with FFXII. FFXII is one of the most dreadfully boring games I have ever played, I think the only FF game I disliked playing more then FFXII was FFXI which makes way to much sense considering how similar the two games awful battle systems are.
At least FFXI had a really interesting story with memorable characters to drive it outside of the mind numbing battles, FFXII had no such luxury, at least for me.
