GAF is growing

Ever since Pacther declared he would be making a documentary on GAF, and the reveal of the Feb 20 Sony talk, GAF has increased it's viewers to around the 8000 mark. Usually it dwindles around 4000 but Gaming Side has heaps of people viewing now. Off topic has also grown as a result of this exposure.

What does this mean for the site? Will we see account approval removed, or could the site perhaps become only viewable by members? I'm posting this in gaming because the influx is directly related to gaming, and I'm interested to see what Gaming side wants for GAF and the future. Lord knows these numbers are gonna explode come e3 and Durango/Orbis launch.

Don't think Pachter has much to do with it. There's more gaming news around. New consoles, that ol' excitement. You'll see most gaming sites are increasing traffic as well for the same reason.

Good lord, I don't think anyone will get rid of the approval system. Have you not noticed how many rubbish juniors we've had over the last couple of days? It'd be a hundred times worse without the approval system.

Why would account approval be removed? If anything, more people creating accounts would mean more time to wait before getting approved.

and here's the part where I brag about having been approved in only 2 days :P

And we can't overwork the NeoGAF Shit Posts Twitter like that. :lol

Don't change anything. Removing account approval would be fuck terrible.

Members only viewing would be fuck terrible as well.

HOW IT TOOK ME 4 MONTHS

Dude, I waited like 8 months. Then they said "we are wiping all approvals. Please register again LOL"

Took me another 4 months.

I think this has more to do with the upcoming consoles releases / reveals / news and less to do with Pachter, but I could be mistaken.

OT is hiring good posters, we are currently looking to fill a News editor to post interesting articles once an hour. You will be judged by the amount of revulsion in each news article you post.

It only took me around a week but I didn't realize it until a few months later. :P

Still beat you son.
I was approved the next day I set up my acount, in fact, when I got the email I thought it was an error or something.

I guess mods figured out I'm sexy.

And a monkey.

I find it weird that people read without posting. Do they like, read GAF daily? Do they know individual members, despite never interacting with them? I don't think I could frequent a message board where I knew that I couldn't comment.

Don't complain! I literally had to wait a full year! Strangely I wasn't too bothered by it since I loved lurking.
*lurk lurk lurk lurk*
Anyways, yeah i feel like i know a lotta the people on here because of that
They have no idea of that though because of the activation time XD

I've noticed more input from devs and journalists in certain threads lately myself. I think that can only be a good thing if it encourages informed discussion in a mature way.

There seems to be a great dynamic emerging where gamers can interact with game makers and people in the industry.

Of course, for every mature discussion, there is a bunch of people who have to throw in their irrelevant and ill-informed opinion.

Account approval might get removed, but I hope the moderation remains how it is. It's strict, and rightly so, and cuts down on the bullshit that makes almost every other gaming forum unbearable.

It definitely can go both ways but I'd say the majority of "users" on a forum are merely lurking and not commenting. Just look at the number of views compared to the number of posts in any forum online. Perhaps it just takes too much work to register/sign up for the quick internet reader.
