Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

Kotaku is funny... so, they get their hands on a new pic of the DS4 prototype, and use it to validate their rumors. LOL

what are they gonna do when the price is announced tomorrow, and it's a single SKU priced @ $399?

They wont announce one. A price has never been announced at the first reveal. It didnt happen with PS2, didn't happen with PS3, and didn't happen with Vita. Hell with Wii U we didn't get the price tell like a month and half before release! Hopefully we get the PS4 price at E3.

If they are to do two SKUs, I imagine it would be based on storage like most other hardware does nowadays. 500GB and 1TB, maybe.

for $100 i hope it's not that boring, is the thing. half a TB (as an example) sounds nice, but assuming we can still swap out drives - and god i hope we can - that's way too high

real talk, a game gear/dreamcast bundle would've totally saved the DC.

$1000 gaming rig wont match the performance levels of a PS4 either.

are you buying the low tier package from alienware or what?

Online Play will be free but single player games will require PlayStation world account. That is the twist. I'm shocked that everyone in here is staying so level headed about this rumor.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
Sony would rather have several hundred million dollars in subscription revenue than a bullet point for console warriors to spout.

And who are you to say the added sales in consoles and games/media doesn't match that lost revenue?

A $700-$800 PC would be comparable in specs. Consoles are able to do well because of heavy optimization to one set of hardware.

I don't believe $429 at all. The marketing value at coming in under 400 ($399) would be worth the diff.

What does this mean? Remote Play?

I'd of thought so, I expect this to be a standard feature for games if developers choose to support it. The PS3 has a hardware video decoder so is much easier for them to do than it was on PS3/PSP.

Now that the Vita has Dual sticks too, it only causes an issue for the missing L2/R3 buttons

Plus Probably they will wait for ms' first move and decide details depending on their strategy

Ah good point, hadn't thought of that.

I definitely don't see the need to announce prices tomorrow. I'd be massively surprised if they did.

it's not that hard to fix the missing buttons
back touch for the missing r2/l2
front touch for the missing r3/l3
it's not perfect but it works well enough.

Free online is part of the reason why I love my PS3. I am subcribed to Playstation Plus however and if they are packaging ps plus and online together for a similar price, I won't mind as much (because I would actually be paying for something). That rumor is probably bullshit tho.

Source seems to be a developer, based on the devkit shots so... Developer GAF:

Is a new console's price and online pricing strategy normally something a console manufacturer would inform you of?

I can't see how it would impact the game development process, so it seems unlikely. The launch date, on the other hand, is something that developers absolutely need to know, so I'd think that part of the rumor is reliable.

Exactly, which is why I think it will be an OS level feature. Unless they sneak out another Vita Hardware revision or let you sync your PS4 pad with your Vita like you could on PSP go.

If you look at past sony console launch price, you will find that they never, ever do direct price translation.

For example, PS3 euro launch was 599 euro, in US it was 599 US dollar. By applying exact exchange rate example Euro one should've been below 500.

If Sony launch $39,999 yen for Japan, you are guaranteed to see $399 price in US and 399 Euro in Europe. Mark my word.

Yes, that's what I was pointing out. That this dollar price matches up too closely to a USDJPY conversion.

Why wouldn't they? Vita will still be a supported system throughout much of PS4's lifecycle and it's online features are free. Heck, it has far better online features than the PS3, more closely rivaling XBL actually. Why would they charge for online play in PS4 when it will continue to be free on Vita?
