So about that Vita?

Vita Heaven come and went and no new games were announced.
So people here were saying wait for the 20th and bath in Vita projects that will push the Vita.
Playstation meeting went and nothing but relegating Vita to a ps4 accessory was seen.
So did I miss something or is everyone (Sony included) forgetting about the Vita?

it's done. buy a 3ds if you want a dedicated gaming handheld with actual games

ps4 is sony's focus and that's the way it should be

It's clear from the conference that Sony truly just doesn't give a shit.

When they were talking about PS Cloud, they're making it on other devices. Sharing? Other devices. Spectating? Other devices.

What can the Vita do? It can remote play PS4 games. It's been delegated as a Wii U controller and nothing else.

I wouldn't be surprised if they rebranded it as a peripheral of sorts.

I really don't care anymore. Please focus on PS4, Sony. I'm liking what I saw. Still gotta hear the price though

During the PS4 reveal. Would you have preferred they showed Vita games?

Finished. It seems clear Sony will focus on PS4, and the direct in 2 hours may worse the situation. You want a handheld, go for 3DS and that's it, Sony just dropped Vita support, sadly.

Did you see yesterday's event?

Playing PS4 games on Vita is big IMO. From what Perry said that will be possible using the PS4 as the server.

They had 500,000 people watching (in the USA only) and no competition. It wouldn't have killed them to throw the Vita at least a couple of bones. Or a montage. Or SOMETHING. This was supposed to be the "PlayStation Meeting," after all.

All they got is "Vita can stream PS4 games through remote play."

Streaming my PS4 games to the vita to play in another room (like the WiiU) sounds great to me. I will use this feature for sure.

Well, Vita owners don't seem to be forgetting about the Vita. But the companies that make software for it, well...

I'm fine with this, PS4 in bed with that OLED screen sounds like a good plan to me.

PS4 on the toilet.

... You wanted them to showcase the Vita and Vita games... during a PS4 unveiling? At the beginning they did mention things that are coming up for the Vita, but noted they would share those later in the year. This wasn't the time or place to really focus on the Vita itself, but by adding full remote play for all PS4 games, that greatly helps to increase the Vitas value.

It's not. Otherwise, it's like claiming: "Wii U gamepad is a console !"
People bought a Vita as a handheld console, not a screen with buttons to stream games.

The 18th Feb price-cut announcement wasn't 'Vita Heaven'.

They made it pretty clear that they have plans for the device for later in the year (they said something about living room plans, which I find odd). What that means and whether it will amount to anything remains to be seen. They're obviously going to do some work on remote play too. I'm not surprised that there was little else about the Vita at the PS4 announcement.

I think it's clear that the device still factors into their plans to a degree and will not be discontinued any time soon.

This was the "PlayStation Meeting" that was supposed to showcase the "Future of PlayStation in 2013." It wouldn't have killed Sony to spend an extra 15 minutes on games for Vita.

We all know how this is going to go. They're gonna try at least one more hardware revision/brand relaunch before it ever dies. I think they're saving up software announcements for that pricecut/relaunch.

It's being discontinued, all games have been ported to PS Cloud. The reason why we haven't seen the PS4's box is because there is no box, it's just a service that'll be playable on Wii U, iOS, Android, 3DS and Xbox 8.

Yeah, I'm surprised this isn't being as talked about as much as I think it should.

This is great news being able to do this.

Yeah. If nothing else, they have the next Sony Bend project up their sleeve.

Just please don't be Uncharted. Let it be a new and wonderful IP that makes people say "Wow!"

As far as I'm concerned they could never release a game for it again. That conference last night convinced me to buy one.My number 1, absolutely beast feature about the Wii U...is off tv play. I will buy a Vita for this feature, it is so valuable to me. My Off tv gamepad for my ps4, that can double as a bedroom/before sleep device with it's own original games. It actual makes the console more valuable to me, and eases the lack of games or memory. don't ge tme wrong, I'll wait til this summer for that price cut, or at least the lowest price it goes to, but I'll be buying one of these now. I don't think they killed it alst night, they made it worth buying.

Obviously, for the people who (quite fairly) bought one with the expectation of a steady flow of portable games, you have right to be disappointed, I do appreciate that. I just love this for myself.

Im glad they didn't dwell on the vita, it was the PS4 reveal. I had hoped they would devote all their time to the ps4 and they did. :D

If remote play is implemented on enough games, I could see the PS4 becomming the vita's "killer app".

Too many nails in its coffin, yet the Vita is still breathing thanks to portable oxygen tanks. That oxygen is gonna run out sooner or later

I still have some faith, and some actual patience, in the Vita

Does the remote play only work if the Vita and PS4 are on the same network? I'm pretty sure I remember Lair remote play working from anywhere, if Vita/ PS4 works that way I think it's actually a pretty big deal.

If they have to be on the same network it's pretty lame though.

The system is pretty much dead at this point. You could make the argument that if people slowly buy them as a PS4 accessory there will eventually be a big enough user base for devs to make games for it, but in a couple years tablets will likely have much better graphics so it'll feel dated even though it has controls.

Personally though if remote play works from anywhere that would make a Vita worth it.

I would have preferred less pretentious Witness, Media Molecule, and Quantic Dream nonsense, and CERTAINLY less Square Enix trolling....for some Vita announcements.

Considering that I'll probably buy the Shield just for PC streaming, the prospect of PS4 streaming makes me quite happy as a Vita owner.

Remote play is certainly great for those already owning a Vita. But it's not a reason to buy one by any means.

I don't get you people complaining.

Remote play is awesome.

I didn't want to buy a Vita before, but now I really consider it.

I think yesterday the Vita got a big blast of new life injected into it.

And with more Vitas sold, devs will make more games.

It's like win/win for everyone.

I dunno.
I'm still buying one.
Lack of games is an issue.
Streaming from PS4 is a feature.
What about the 'integration to the living room'?
Could it be something relating to the HDMI patent?
Or maybe even a new way of interaction with the PS4?

Eh.
I'll wait for E3.

There was a cryptic comment at the top of the press conference about a place for vita in the living room and that we'd hear more about tht iniative later in the year. Whatever that means?

The remote play feature is great (if fully realised), but again I see it only appealing to existing owners.

Will people buying a $400+ PS4 also pick up a $200+ PSVita as a companion device?

Ubiquitous remote play support means that Vita will remain a fantastic device even if developer support dies off, so I'm happy enough after that announcement.

I assume "expanding the PS Vita into the living room" ties into Vita the peripheral, since Vita will be able to "seamlessly pull PS4 titles from their living room TVs."

The 18th Feb price-cut announcement wasn't 'Vita Heaven'.
They certainly didn't tell anyone otherwise
They made it pretty clear that they have plans for the device for later in the year (they said something about living room plans, which I find odd). That wasn't ps4 announcement that was future of playstation, if Sony doesn't consider Vita part of the future of the playstation, they consider it part of its past since they're not acknowledging it in the present.

I think it's clear that the device still factors into their plans to a degree and will not be discontinued any time soon.

Well a ps4 peripheral won't get discontinued before ps4 is dead really.

But you'll be able to play all your PS4 games on the Vita ;)

I want to see more than one first.
After all, Remote Play has been done before.
Few games supported it, and it ended up a waste.
Let us hope that all PS4 games are able to do so, yes.
It would definitely boost Vita sales as a streaming device.
