DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

Really?

Drive Club is the one on the right? It does look like a nice improvement.

Some of you guys saying this game doesn't looks as good need your eye balls checked. If what we saw was in-game running on PS4 devkits (2GB RAM), this looks EVERY bit of good as GT5, if not BETTER.

This coming from a HUGE GT fan. It hurts to say any racer looking better than GT, but maaaan DriveClub looks AMAZING.

My biggest want is DEEP tuning/customization. Real parts from real manufacturers, with real hp/trq figures. Dyno's too. I want to be able to rip the interior out of my e92 M3 and turn that baby to a go kart. I want to add aftermarket light wheels, and NOTICE the difference in my lap times, not that they look pretty.

I can go on and on, but if these guys love cars as they say, I want them to put as much love as possible into this game. It has potential, the developer background on past car games is tremendous.

I'd honestly prefer there to be no customization if it's an arcade racer. I know that i'm probably alone with that opinion, but I just prefer to be able to focus on racing in arcade racers. That's one of the big reasons that I loved Hot Pursuit so much. You just picked a car and went driving. No customization and everyone was on the same level because of it. It purely came down to who was the best driver. Because of that I found myself really trying to beat the times of people on my Autolog. When Most Wanted came out I really didn't have that desire.

Of course it looks better. A 2010 PS3 game looking better than a launch PS4 game - no freaking way.

As much as i would love it, I don't think we'll be seeing anything customization wise.
Seems to be like PGR where you might have a few paint options and such, but nothing deeper than that.

This is the best thing for me that was shown at the press conference. A racing game from Evo using licensed cars with extreme detail sounds great to me. This game is giving me a lot of PGR 3 vibe back when the 360 was being announced and I played the hell out PGR 3. Hopefully this will be a launch title for the PS4 because I really want to play this game.

I got way more of a forza horizon vibe. More open roads, no tight city driving. PGR3 was as much about the insane city environments as the detail on the cars (handling model was already fantastic from PGR2)

Evolution are good developers but I want a spiritual successor to PGR and this honestly didn't feel that close. Wich is a shame because, assuming MS show PGR5, I have to but a Durango for that if this game is 'Gran Turismo Horizon'

I would be ok with some focus on Multiplayer BUT I need to have my Career to climb, my cars to unlock, my levels to unlock and so on. I like to play racing games in my own pace so I'm hoping for some Single Player side too. In fact, it's what I want the most of any Racing game.

He talked about asynchronous racing, and maybe they'll lift some elements from motorstorm RC? I like single player racing games but motorstorm RC has some really good ways to bring friends into the racing without having to be online at the same time.

Edit: will tessellation help with better LoD switching in racing games?

I really don't see that big of a difference other then the lighting.

Yeah the lighting is the main difference I noticed. While GT5 had great lighting, it was very aggressive (50% weather tracks were more natural).

The biggest difference is the self shadowing. In GT5 it was all over the place (I couldn't replicate in GT5 at all). From what I have seen of driveclub, its very subtle and has excellent range. Was extremely impressed with that

I have zero interest in racing games but I hope the dude from the meeting is at E3. Just funny as hell listening to someone with such crazy passion.

Day 1 if there is live commentary for every track and car from the dude!

Anyone notice the mirrors in most of the footage are standard racer mirrors which only show a view behind the car, but the FP view of entering the car and driving away shows reflections of the cockpit/door/driver's hand on the door handle?

Gran Turismo: Driveclub.

I think it's just an asshole move to deny your fellow Sony racing developers, struggling developers that is(made out of ex-Bizarre and Sony Liverpool people), the chance to secure at least a modest amount of sales.

I've lost all respect for Yamauchi if the report is factual. Not like I had much for the guy after the standard cars debacle.

You always have to give a negative spin, wtf.

The Gran Turismo ip is reveleant today because of Poliphony's work. It' a correct move from Sony to ask the guy if he wanted to share the name or not and not force it

And in my opinion it's correct that Driving Club has to stand on its legs. What make GT famous is the people behind it. It's not correct for the consumers to give this name to a software built from different people.

Good choice.

if they did call it GT, we would have all (rightly) called them out for pimping GT brand name for money.

this has nothing to do with GT and it shouldnt be called GT.

it might end up being better game and more fun than GT... but that doesnt make it GT.

Btw, don't you realize that the IQ in these DriveClub shots is horrendous? It's blurry as hell and it lacks proper AA too. Let's wait for real gameplay bits shall we?

Looks beautiful, and I'm well on board with this game. It might be one of the reasons I buy a PS4. But people do know that Forza 4 had car porn of this quality in Autovista mode, yes?

But they've modelled the individual carbon fibre weave for maximum damage..

If I was Polyphony, I'd get into partnership with Evolution and split the work. More cars digitized than before, with both collaborating with each other for each other's game. In return, Evolution can consider this a GT spinoff and Polyphony has the rights to adapt any successful idea that Evolution brings to Driveclub.

Mercedes-Benz confirms that besides the CLA 45 AMG also the A 45 AMG and further yet to be revealed models will be featured in Driveclub:

In New York yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) presented Driveclub a brand new racing franchise developed exclusively for Playstation 4 by Evolution Studios. The car line-up in this pioneering game, which conveys better than ever before the heart and soul of motor racing and the passion it inspires, includes several exceptional sports cars from Mercedes-Benz – first and foremost among them the new CLA 45 AMG and the new A 45 AMG. Both these high-performance vehicles will be celebrating their real-world premiere in March 2013. Driveclub and the new Playstation 4 console will be launching this holiday season.

Playstation 4 is SCEI’s next generation computer entertainment system that redefines rich and immersive gameplay with powerful graphics and speed, intelligent personalisation, deeply integrated social capabilities, and innovative second-screen features. Driveclub is the perfect fit for the lifestyle of the next generation of PlayStation gamers: an exhilarating, visceral and highly socially connected racing experience that showcases the immense capabilities of Playstation 4. Driveclub is a networked game to be played in real clubs, encouraging players to team up and to collaborate and compete with one another while experiencing the thrill of driving the best cars in the world, on the best roads in the world. The audiovisual quality of the cars and the tracks is staggering, and the view from the cockpit is absolutely true to life, immersing the player in every race and recreating the power and the drama that they would feel if they were actually sitting in the driver’s seat.

As well as the CLA 45 AMG and the A 45 AMG, further vehicles with the three-pointed star will join Driveclub.

Firing up the world's most powerful four-cylinder production engine

In March the A 45 AMG will be presented at the Geneva auto show. With this new family member Mercedes-AMG will for the first time be offering a high-performance vehicle in the compact class segment. The AMG-Version of the new four-door Coupé, the CLA, is celebrating its world premiere in New York. With a peak output of 265 kW (360 hp) and a maximum torque of 450 newton metres, their turbocharged AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is the world's most powerful four-cylinder power unit in series production. The power density of 133 kW (181 hp) surpasses even that of the most powerful super sports cars. At the same time they excel with outstanding efficiency, while also meeting the EU6 emissions standard. The A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG are equipped as standard with the fully variable, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

And what is wrong with that? Sony barely even gets to leverage their biggest franchise because they are producing a game every half decade

The sky boxes look extremely boring and mundane...they need to get creative. I also wasn't impressed by the tod setting they chose, way too dark and boring.

Given how PS4 will be easily able to push over 10 million poly/60th of a second, I hope we get 60fps. Given the astounding I can live with 30fps, but I'd really prefer 60.

Someone should get a hold of the dev if possible and just ask what their intention is in this regard.

GT sells so much because of the way they do things... if they released two games per year, they probably wouldnt sell so much.

Evolution will do just fine if it is a good game.

It's wrong because a brand is what it is thanks to the group working on it.

It's not the other way around. If i stick the Mercedes Benz brand on an Opel or on a Porsche i'm tricking the potential buyers.

Well MotorStorm Apocalypse was released spring 2011, so some point after that ;)

There are over 120 talented and enthusiastic people working at Evolution Studios right now, and we're looking for more C++ Programmers http://www.evos.net/

And I wish I could answer all of the questions being asked in this thread, but I'm not allowed to just yet. Rest assured every detail shared about Driveclub will be relayed here to keep you all up to date.

Maybe you can tell us if there's asset sharing between Evo and Polyphony?

Also, if there is no career/SP mode, I think I will pass on this game, so hopefully it's there.

Make sure the load times are up to par and there is split screen multiplayer, unlike Motorstorm 1.

There have been a lot of questions in regards to whether Driveclub is a Simulation or Arcade racer, and whilst this doesn't go to full extent of answering that question hopefully it'll give you a slightly better idea of the intentions behind the handling:

"Driveclub," according to Southern, will hit the sweet spot between racing sim and arcade title

PGR it is.

Reading past comments i can't understand how someone could guess this game is a sim or an arcade racer or something in between however.

There are no official statements about that atm, right ?

Rushy just posted a comment saying that it's between sim and arcade. Which sounds a lot like PGR.

This game just gets better and better! Thanks. :)

I love evolution studios. And most likely will get drive club day one. But if their focus is on team racing wouldn't it be sensible to think that there will be A LOT of cosmetic customization a la Forza? How else will my team differentiate from all the others?

And with the track pad, drawing could be much much easier.

Anyone agree? Rushy?
