Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Videogames are not a quality medium for storytelling unless framing is solved. At that point, it ceases to be a game and more a film.

Vroom!

Final Fantasy VI is a terrible, overrated mess that is hands down my least favorite game in the series. And I've played through VIII, X, and the first 6 chapters of XIII (had to stop because my roommate with the 360 moved out). I would go on to say that the Final Fantasy series has been a pretty hit or miss series, but I doubt that opinion is controversial.

I hate the entire Pokemon franchise. Games, shows, card games, movies etc. I was in middle school when the Pokemon craze began, and even then I couldn't stand it. Seemed childish to me, even at that age.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was a great game.

I never finished MadWorld, thought it was pretty boring, actually.

Darksiders 1 was crap, 2 is much, MUCH better... (Of course, this is coming from someone who played 2 first)

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was one of the worst games i played last gen.

Final Fantasy XIII was the worst, I think... It was the first time I didn't even want to try to beat one... ...completely lost interest...

Xenoblade is the best game I've played since Earthbound or Chrono Trigger...

Rockstar gets shit on around here; I just don't get it
Mascot brawlers get their balls sucked around here; I don't understand the appeal
I am sick of Legend of Zelda titles. Get a cohesive universe, change things up a bit
I think the PS3's exclusives are overhyped(Uncharted, Infamous are the two that I am thinking of)

- Super Mario World is the greatest game ever made.
- Twisted Metal 3 is one of my favorites in the series.
- 007 Legends isn't as bad as people say.
- I love GTA IV.
- The GTA series is the greatest third person action/shooter series of all time.
- Houser writing is excellent. All the hate on here gets on my fucking nerves.
- Survival horror games suck.
- Competitive multiplayer is out of control and should be removed from all games until they can get the single player and replayability down correctly.
- PC is not the "master race".
- I don't like most Japanese games and hate the "anime" art style.
- Nintendo is the greatest video game company of all time followed by Rockstar.
- Doom 3 is a great game but it's not worthy of the Doom name.
- Mafia 2 was excellent.
- I love Oblivion. It had a better theme than Skyrim.

Yeah I agree with this. But some of them are still pretty good.

I'm 23 and have been playing since I was 14. Some of the greatest video game writing ever.

Dude needs a fuckin' editor, someone to keep him in line and make sure he actually writes characters instead of mouthpieces.

Oblivion is arguably better than Skyrim. The game had issues, but it also had a billion quests that were interesting and weren't all "go here and find/kill x."

From what I've played of it, I consider Resident Evil: Code Veronica to be one of the worst games in the series. I rank it below 0, 5, and 6.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was a great game.

My man! I LOVE SH:SM, and I too thought that MadWorld was way too repetitive, always doing the same things again and again and again (killing without a purpose, just for the sake of it).

I just don't like Open world racers. I know people love Burnout Paradise but this was good as it got to me.

Need For Speed Underground, Need For Speed Most Wanted (2005) XBox 360, Need For Speed The Run, Burnout 2-3 and Split Second are great racing games. Open world racers feel like they should be Online Only games and I just like my story with my paths set with the option to race online.

When I like to fiddle with cars this will always be the best series to me.

Final Fantasy VII is easily better than Final Fantasy VI in all ways, and Final Fantasy V has much better gameplay than Final Fantasy VI as well.

Basically: people who love FFVI see it with huge nostalgia glasses and love it so much for the amazing jump in graphic quality and increased focus on storytelling, but Final Fantasy VII's story telling and setting is the best in the entire damn series, and it's leap in graphics was even larger and more innovative than FFV->FFVI.

I'm with you man. I've actually enjoyed all Tokyo Xtreme games more than anything Criterion has done. And NFS MW original >>>>>>>>>>> MW2012

Sonic games need a full reboot, not another redesign like adventure or generations, but a full reboot that gets rid of all those annoying characters, story and other useless fodder

Half of the projects on kickstarter are scams but they dont care as long as they keep getting their cut of every fundraising.

Bungie's new project is going to be its last, because it will suck enough to bankrupt the company

Platformers should stop trying to put platforms in 3D and just go open world, it will be great and a nice change from all the open world games that are just about shooting people/stuff.

Did Generations feature any other characters? Unleashed also scrapped most of the cast or gave them minor roles. Colors also had no other characters I believe. Story has also been pretty light since Colors.

Sonic games are great right now *shrug*

I think the new Killzone game looks noticeably inferior to Crysis 2 w/ Maldo's mod.
I think the new Killzone finally looks like the PS3 concept video... All they needed was completely different hardware to finally make good on their promise. (Aside from the fact that they promised it on PS3...)

In light of the recent reveal, I don't have high hopes for next gen. Watch_Dogs was the best thing shown because it was at least different and new and it's even playable on Wii U.

-Final Fantasy VIII and X are the best in the series while FFVII and FFXII are overrated.
-Tales of Graces f's battle system does not appeal to me, I prefer Abyss's and Symphonia's.
-Turn-based battle systems trumps real-time battle systems.
-Street Fighter IV is the worst in the series, New Generation and Second Impact were awesome.
-Capcom vs SNK series is way better than Marvel vs Capcom, and I thought the first one CvS was better than the second one.
-Although Tekken 4's gameplay was considered garbage, nothing compares to the atmosphere and the storyline in Tekken 4 when it comes to other Tekkens.
-Soul Calibur 1 for DC beats any other Soul Caliburs, and yes, that includes Soul Calibur II & V.
-Dreamcast is the best system ever.
-JRPGs> WRPGs

- Despise pretty much every single thing about the halo series... Generic, uninspired and boring as hell
- Resident Evil 4 absolutely ruined the series, I present 5 and 6 as evidence
- While its far from the greatest, I DID enjoy ff13
- portal 2 was a massive let down
- I would much prefer a great single player experience over multiplayer in any way shape or form

In my personal and completely biased opinion, most "AAA" titles are really boring. Doesn't matter the genre either, I rarely find myself finishing them. They do not hold my interest at all. They pander to a demographic that I'm not obviously the target of. I'd rather play a lot more "niche" titles that most people don't play.

I guess that makes me some sort of gaming hipster, or something.

*Takes a deep breath* here I go...:

-FFXIII is the best FF since IX. FFXIII-2 is pretty boring though, and I can't bring myself to finish it. Meh to Lightning Returns
-FFVII is the best FF, and the best game of all time
-FFVI is incredibly overrated
-RE5 & 6 really weren't that bad, and aren't too different from RE4 IMO.
-I can't stand most fetch quests and side quests, and would rather play an RPG by doing the bare minimum. Can't stand grinding.
-I find the Legend of Zelda games incredibly boring. Bland story and characters, and tedious dungeon crawling.
-Sonic > Mario. Always.
-I despise backtracking. Probably why I can't bring myself to play the Metroid/Castlevania games
-The Mass Effect games are horrible. Boring dialog, boring gameplay. Seems to suffer from an identity crisis. Does it want to be an RPG or a shooter?
-All FPSes on console are awful. Can't really say much about FPSes on PC, since I've never really tried them
-I can't bring myself to enjoy most western developed games, with some exceptions (Uncharted, Heavy Rain, etc).
-I can't stand Smash Bros, and laugh when people call it a "serious" fighting game
-I found Vanquish pretty boring, and think it's overrated. With that said, I've enjoyed most of the other Platinum games this gen.
-Assassin's Creed is an awful franchise, and ACIII might be one of the worst games I've played in recent time.
-Halo sucks
-GTA sucks, and GTAIV was god awful.

And I'm sure I can think of a lot more.

Vroom!

i know this is a controversy thread.

I agree to some extent, I do feel though that single character games can be really good at showing a continuous experience.

I paid £10 for Journey and finished it in an hour. I kind of felt cheated after buying it based on GAF opinions.

I was left thoroughly underwhelmed, after hearing all the hyperbole on GAF about how it made them change their way of thinking, I expected something more. I guess I expected to play something worthy of a GOTY title.

The art was nice but there was nearly zero gameplay and I don't really feel I got my moneys worth.

I guess I was disappointed, in part, due to how much praise it gets on GAF.

I guess it didn't help that I never saw a single person through my (very short) play-through.

Haha. I enjoyed FFXIII a lot, and can't understand why it's considered the black sheep of the series. And people say FFXIII-2 is better? Maybe in terms of gameplay...everything else though? Nope.

Edit: On second thought, I do understand why so many people hated XIII. Didn't stop me from enjoying it, though.

Platinum Games are corny, lame, and overrated.

I've sat down with Bayonetta on multiple occasions and I still don't get it.

I might get trash thrown at me but:

Vaas from Far Cry 3 was one of the most interesting and memorable villains in any video game this generation. It's just sad he basically got shoe-horned into the "junkie lackey" role when his story involving Citra and the rest of the island could have been so much more.

Final Fantasy XII had a great universe and a horrible everything else. My least favorite Final Fantasy mainline entry.
