Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

I picked it up last Tuesday. I'm loving it as well.

I understand there was a patch?

The patch rebalanced levels do there are no more cheap deaths when moving to a new screen and getting killed by an enemy that was out of your view. And it added different music for the different worlds.

I started playing after the patch and am enjoying it!

Yeah, before there were more cheap deaths, and more importantly, before there was one solitary song playing throughout the whole thing. The best thing they did in my opinion was add a unique song to each system. And even better that each song was made either WITH that system's hardware or emulated so that it sounds like it was made with that system's hardware.

Yeah, I've been enjoying Life of Pixel post-patch. Unfortunately I lost my save post-patch.

Pre-patch had repetitive music and the levels were highly unbalanced. Probably the only "unbalanced" level now here is Pools of Death because you have to estimate how far to jump, but that can be remedied by easy markers (star positioning).

Life of pixel is amazing!

it's a one trick game.

instead of doing the same thing but with different graphics (eras of gaming) it should've offered something new every time, like the pixel going from Pitfall to Time Pilot and actually change the core gameplay.

and don't give me the " it's cheap" excuse, there are some super cheap iOS games that have lots of crap in them.

i like the concept but i don't think it's actually a good platformer. worth playing for the novelty of going through all the system audio-visual styles at that price though.

sounds much better post patch. one song would be maddening and i hate the times i die moving from screen to screen already so more would suuuck.

I want to give the opposite excuse - that's expensive, programming time wise. And given PSM sales, not worth doing. What he does, he does well.

I see what you're saying, but I don't have a problem with it personally. It's not trying to be completely accurate to each era, it's just a platformer set in different consoles. It's cool for what it is. I wouldn't have really wanted it to have different gameplay since I wanted to play a platformer.

Or maybe a new ability each new level?

Tell me about iOS that do that...

How come no one said Disgaea 3 was such a fun game? I played the first few maps, got bored and dropped it. Just returned recently and I'm at the fourth chapter and having a lot of fun. Here's to Disgaea 4 on the Vita as well!

Some of those PSone Classics are bizarre choices. One is a dating sim, and a few are RPGs. How is it a good idea to release them only in Japanese?

the disgaea games always take a bit to get into. given past history I would expect disgaea 4 in 2014 on the vita.

There are people who live in NA who speak japanese and would like to be able to play those games legally without having to import the game disks or without having to change their region on the vita?

I really don't know of any of them, but i am guessing the company is just bringing over bigger sellers that they have rights to from the japanese PSN just because they can.

It was a rhetorical question. Because what you said is nonsensical.

But still a valid point - what games on iOS are like Pixel but change things up more often?

I don't have iOS so I dunno, but I've seen quite a few ports of mobile titles and most aren't any deeper than Pixel. To the contrary, most seem basically only have the same gameplay (and often just a few levels, or even one, like Canabalt)

Like Super Crate Box. Its gameplay never changes. You get what, 5 different levels, all one screen?

Not to mention, sales on PS Mobile seem to be pretty awful. Based on comparing it to Haunt the House Terrortown, which has apparently sold 1100 copies as of a month or so ago, Pixel has probably sold 2000 copies? As the Icon guy said, that would pay a salary for half a month. And yet it was in the works for I think 4 months.

Does anyone here have Need For Speed Most Wanted? I still need 5 friends and to do a speedlist for trophies.

My PSN is Roe-Bear if anyone wants to add me.

We might get lucky and see the Japanese release of D4 Vita this year, considering D2 is out in a week or two. D4 and D3 Vita came out in the same year! But we in NA and EU will definitely see it in 2014.

im more going by this

disgaea 1 release year 2003, disgaea 1 psp release 2006
disgaea 2 release year 2006, disgaea 2 psp release 2009
disgaea 3 release year 2008, disgaea 3 vita release 2011
disgaea 4 release year 2011, disgaea 4 vita release 20??

every other portable version has come out 3 years later than the original release, even if disgaea D2 manages to come out early (like disgaea 3 did compared to the disgaea 2 psp release) i see it more likely that the portable version will come out 3 years later than in the same year as the d2 release.

Has Retro City Rampage disappeared from the store for anyone else? Try as I might I can't seem to find it. I'm using the Australian store, if that matters.

Edit: A friend (also Aus) bought it last week with no problems, but now he's saying he can't see it on the store either. What is this?

sadly it's still in the US store.

Sony Australia is saving you from a really shitty game.

Difference is, we can't control those cheap iOS junk games.

$40 for Ace Combat?
why bamco, why

lol

I imagine most have moved onto TriG 3DS anyway

Someone buys a Vita because of Big Boob Ninja, PSO2, or wanting to play Gravity Rush, etc. and decides to buy a hunting action game. Do they buy the new IP, or go for a 2900yen bundle of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd? I dunno.

Here's what Capcom has put on sale

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G + Monster Hunter Portable 3rd Bundle
4590 yen to 2990 yen

Monster Hunter Poka Poka Airu Village G
3600 yen to 2990 yen

Puzzle de Airu
2700 yen to 1990 yen

Okay, I'm joking about Capcom wanting to kill SS, but it's a fairly interesting time to put these games on sale.

I'm about to start playing it.

Add me as a friend. PSN = Dingotech-US

Anybody else that has Most Wanted feel free to send me an invite as well. :)

Recently Bamco has lowered "UMD passport program" of God Eater Burst to 0, free, nada.
Obviously they are wanting to pave the road for GE2 Vita version.
Interesting thing was whether you have GE Burst as a whole or just the "append disk", they'll give you DL version for free.

I honestly think you should stop caring too much about what Capcom think about Vita or what Capcom do,focus on what Vita got and publishers that deserve your effort.

kinda same strategy as Tecmo with NGS+/Ps+

it's a nice strategy to get more new fans onto the ship.(it can backfire tho)

And i was wondering why GE briefly reapered on charts last week or two ago in Japan.

It also fixed the god awful slowdown. Felt like you were playing in mud for the later stages. And the double jump actually works now

Anyone have the red vita? Would like to hear impressions. I am so close to buying one at the local store. I mean shit, it is only $200 thanks to the weaker yen now.

Just received Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2+ and just after i opened it, got shipping notification for Phantasy Star Online 2!
Any other PSO newbs, send me a PM so i know how wants to get their multi on when my copy arrives :)
