Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Wii U bundle and 3DS XL bundle preordered for a day 1 arrival at home (I hope) on Amazon.

What am I doing with my life ?

I HAVE NO REGRETS

Heh, true but it's not so bad given the franchise's history. Capcom didn't exactly handle it well on Wii. I'm not sure about the other handheld MH games, but I think Portable 3rd may have supported voice chat on PSP, but that game didn't come out overseas. I suppose the PS3 version of the game may have supported it as well (but again, it didn't release outside of Japan either). At least the Wii U version has what seems to be the definite version of any MH game. You get the convenience of optionally putting the HUD on the touch pad , off-TV play, voice chat support without the need for a headset (unless the quality of the GamePad speakers prove to be inadequate), and being able to suspend the game so you can surf the internet to look up MH guides and videos. Lastly, there's of course, Miiverse 3DS connectivity support too.

MHP games on PSP never had online. Probably it didn't matter so much because xlink kai (which seemed pretty popular in Japan) and (eventually) ad hoc party existed.

Man, I'm excited for the 3DS game.

I pre-ordered from a futuristic shop here in Canada and hope it arrives in time for me to bring it with me to PAX East. It will make the drive more fun and I might even be able to go on hunts with fellow paxers :D

I'm betting on FS for my 3DS copy as well, hoping I get it before the weekend because I don't think I can survive another 7 days without this game. Obviously can't get the Wii U version early since I'm going eshop for that.

EB did come through big time for me with Fire Emblem but I don't expect lightning to strike twice. And FS has always been at least a day early for me lately.

Oh, so that's how it was with those games. I wasn't quite sure about how things worked in the Japanese versions due to adhoc. Well, then it just make the Wii U version look better for supporting it.

Any word out of Japan regarding how well the voice chat works? Here's hoping it works better than the wii version - that thing just flat out didn't work.

11 days until I finally get my first handheld since the GBA and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I'm constantly thinking about it and have no fun in doing playing anything else. Aaaah.

MHP Third HD for the PS3 let you could connect to 1 or 2 MHP 3rd players and go online. (You wouldn't really need to go online if you had 3 local PSP players and 1 HD player since you'd already be a party of 4.)

If you had a PS3, you could also take 3 local Third PSP players online to look for a fourth with ad hoc party, so the PS3 was more flexible.

You know you've hit rock bottom when you spend a good chunk of your weekend watching people stream the demo.

I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely love the logo animation.

I do too. It's funny because when I'm commuting to work I'll watch trailers for games I want and hype myself up. This is one of them... the comic-con trailer shows up SUPER clear on my Android. :D

The barren demo and pretty ugly visuals dettered me after intial hype, but I think I'll pick this up. If I can convince my only other Wii U owning friend to get it I can see a lot of fun questing being had!

im getting really nervous about the input lag storys on the official forum. im considering buying a WiiU just for that one game, so the experience should actually be better than Tri was...

The demo feels fine :/

Make sure your HDTV doesn't have one of its "enhanced" modes on... those introduce lag.

I'm a little concern too. It will take me sometime to get used to the lag but damn it is very annoying.

The HD version of Portable 3rd was still using the Ad Hoc Party app. Which is more flexible, but not were near as reliable as a complete online server. One of the other reason why it never made it over here. They were not willing to create and support a Monster Hunter Server for the game.

I have mhp3 hd and mhp3 and i tried that set up several times and it never worked. It was just way to confusing to get the thing running. Hope the wiiu,3ds one will be more intuitive

I find it odd that the input lag hasn't been addressed already. It doesn't seem like something that would be left unnoticed.

I wonder if Off-Play TV will have a quicker response time.

Just a heads up in case you guys didn't know:

Athena's MH3G/U Charm Table Search v0.32b :

http://forums.minegarde.com/topic/6...arch-for-monster-hunter-3g-monster-hunter-3u/

Go to mingarde and you will see her post and download link.

The file is .rar so you will need winzip or another program to open/run it.

She has translated all charms, which tables they are on, and provided a very nice FAQ on charms and tables. Everything in one place.

What's interesting to me is the "cursed tables"

Most tables have 20,000+ charms on them but tables 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 have only between 200 - 800 charms. These are being refered to as the "Cursed Tables". Less charms and generally lesser quality as well from my (limited) searching. confirmed to have the worst quality, e.g. table 16 has NO (read ZERO) 3 slot charms. Some skills won't even show up on the Cursed Tables either.

After learning this I have decided that I will be trying for a charm table when I start the game. I know that this means reversing my position on charms and letting chips fall where they may but those "Cursed Tables" are B.S. I don't care about getting the best table but 800 charms when other tables have 20,000? LOL. Screw that.

Anyway, hope this helps guys!

edit:

posted *some* findings for OOO charms in post #6.

edit#2:
http://mh.websimu.mydns.jp./ This is the site that Athena used to compile names/data

edit#3:

Athena also has another program "ASS" or Armor Set Search (lol)

http://forums.minegarde.com/topic/5304-athenas-armor-set-search-for-mh3g/

This program has a feature that can help you determine which charm table you are on.

edit -- on the input lag issue, I have zero idea what people are talking about. I play on the Wii U and it's fine.

I heard about that before and it's super dumb. How fast can you advance to the point when you can test which table you are on?

A few ms of lag.

Everything is in this thread on the Capcom-Unity forums: http://www.capcom-unity.com/monster_hunter/go/thread/view/7451/29802803/will-the-input-lag-of-the-wii-u-version-be-patched

This video in that thread best illustrates it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh1HA_hNgsw
Thanks for the links. I never noticed something like that. Then again I'm not a hardcore MH player and do not time my rolls to the ms to use invincibility frames and what have you.

I do feel the lag of camera control but always attributed that to the digital nature, even though it is mapped to the analogue stick.

Charm Table Stuff

I saw people on SA talking about this stuff today. I don't think I'm going to worry about it, but I guess there is a way to try and get the best table, which is 10 I guess.

Social Dissonance posted:

1) Turn off wi-fi (slide the WIRELESS button)
2) Set date to January 21st, 2012
3) Set the clock to 00:13:00, start your stopwatch right when you touch OK
4) Open the game and go to the “create new character” menu – you must confirm that you indeed want to start a new character by letting go off the A button when the clock hits 00:14:44
That's for the 3DS version at least. Not sure if it works on the Wii U. It seems the table you get is based on the time you make your character or something.

I've been going through the game for reviewing purposes and it hasn't managed to captivate me in any form.

I'm not a Monster Hunter buff though but this game feels REALLY old, all this loading between areas and the almost archaic graphics... damn.
Just give it a 9/10 and call it a day, we will give you some thousands of clicks.

Are you playing the 3DS or Wii U version?

Why has no one posted this new "Battle Trailer" yet?

HYPE
Meh, they keep focusing on MH3 monsters, nobody cares. We want to fight Zinogre, Nargacuga, Duramboros, etc.

You need to do the tutorial and three key quests to unlock the fleet, then note what kind of fish they catch. That's apparently decided by the same table, and there's an online tool to evaluate that data here: http://mhvuze.de/3ucharm/fishEN/

You need to enter the data in the exact same order as it appears in the box, and depending on the table, it's necessary to repeat the process multiple times - that's why there are nine rows. Still takes a while, but it's definitely a lot faster than using charm drops to determine the table.

I'm sad I'm at the mercy of Newegg's shipping. I didn't get CoD for over a week after it's official release date and ACIII I had major issues getting and didn't get it til about a month later.

After the ACIII debacle I told myself I wouldn't use them again but I have Monster Hunter pre-ordered from them awhile ago with one of their $12 off days. They better not screw up my Monster Hunter shipping, my hype is growing too much the closer we get.

Never heard of this before! :S. Is it decided randomly when you create a character or is it name-based (like PSO)?

It's set once you start a new game. There are a few FAQS around on Unity and GameFAQS.

Also, if you download Athena's program, the charm table one, she has a comprehensive FAQ included with it.

Reports suggest that it will take 30-45 mins to check which table you are on from starting a new game.

[...]STUFF[...]

there is also this:
http://youtu.be/wIIJ9PkXRik

I tested it with tri. took about 2 hours to get to that point (but I hadn't played mh in a while... so it should be manageable in unter 1:30.
I am not sure what triggers the fleet to return. I got access as soon as I encountered lagiacrus for the first time. or maybe it's triggered after a certain amount of quests are completed?

I almost wish I didn't know about this charm table stuff now what if I get a cursed one oh noes I probably will (looks at avatar)

Thanks, I think I will do this.

The whole "3DS online app" is pointless. If you have a Wii U, you are going to play the Wii U version online. Luckily for me, I have 3 local buddies who I plan on playing with, so online isn't too big of a factor for me. Does MH4 have online?

MH4 will have online play on the 3DS, yes. Makes me hope Capcom localizes it sooner rather than later, assuming MH3U does well.

Yuri confirmed this morning that both 3DS and Wii U are the same and both have the table issue. He replied in the link I gave on Capcom Unity.

Tables 1 and 10 are considered the "best" by the Japanese but pretty much any table besides the 5 Cursed ones are good.

Athena's program will let you see for yourself all the charms on every table.

It should be a crime, namely fraud, to label your game as HD when all you did was up the anti aliasing.

This is not anywhere near what could reasonably be considered HD.

The game is 1080p isn't it? Seems pretty HD to me.

Edit: Also, not sure if this was linked in that info you gave Fly, but here's a Charm Table Guide video. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet since I'm at work, but there might be some good info in it.

HD = High Definition

It has nothing to do with graphics, this is a 3DS game in 1080p with better shadows, etc. And why were you expecting MH to look like DD again? lol

A crime is to advertise HD games on sub-HD platforms like Vita.

Don't make me get banned a week before the release date.

To be fair, MGS HD Collection does have a clarification on the back of the Vita box!

Which is ironic, given that it's a sub-native game.

What are these charms you speak of? Are they this game´s version of shiny pokemon? Will I have to restart my game over and over until I get a decent one? What if I don´t? Would I then be the MH equivalent of a Slaking?

Can someone explain why Capcom ported the 3ds version instead of tri? From what I've seen and played tri and 3ds version are the same locations but 3ds version has more monster variation and 4 new ones? Tri HD would have looked 100x better and it did when I tested tri on Dolphin.
