College Football 2006/2007 Bowls: Keep it going!

The most delicious irony of all of this is that LSU and the BCS National Champion Florida Gators--the teams that humbled the two overrated, overhyped yankee football colossi that ESPN and sportswriters have been assuring us were great since July--both lost to Auburn. And another team (Arkansas) actually won the SEC West. I think it's strongly possible that all three teams would have gone 12-0 in the Big 10 this year.

Interesting game last night. I am not really suprised FL won, kinda had the feeling the whole 1)OSU 2)UM..............everyone else thing was wrong after the Rose Bowl. I am very suprised that FL's average (and I mean that) offense was able to score 41 points on any body. Florida's front 7 are probably the best in the country so the sacks and the OSU rushing yardage wasn't suprising but I did think Smith would be able to throw a little better than he did.

Looking to next year I really think we should be in a pretty good position to make a run at the SEC we drop LSU and add Mississippi St. and have Georgia and Arkansas at home but Florida on the road. I really think we will have the talent to win hopefully our coaches don't drop the ball (which will happen).

Also anyone think someone else besides Fl will get a first place vote in the AP poll?

You don't honestly believe that do you? o_O Sure, Saban is a good college coach, but it's hard to top Jimbo, Trickett and Dawsey (all coached at LSU during their championship run, Trickett turned a 2-star recruit into a Remington winner, etc.) along with the Riverboat Gambler.

Better yet, our QB is better than his QB.

Nor do you? o_O Bama has a great QB commit in Robert Marve, but he's said for months that he'd jump to FSU the minute we offered him. Problem is that we've got about 5 QB's on scholarship as is, so it's unlikely. On roster, the Bama QB's are about average at best I'd say (all 3-star players).

X Lee should flourish under Jimbo, but I'm quite excited about ol D'Vo Richardson who many feel might be the best we've got on our team and will be a RS Freshman next year. Dual Threat QBs are where it's at, woo!

In my mind, John Parker Wilson is better than Croyle was. It had to be said and I said it. :D

The AP poll was already released. Boise State got the only first place vote that didn't go to Florida, but they ended up finishing 5th overall. That sounds about right for the only unbeaten team in the nation...

Christ, I hate the poll system.

We've got a head coach that still actually can remember the last few years ;)

And your Best Defensive Coach. And 2 other great Defensive coaches. Apparently, we're only playing Defense next year!

And I'll have to agree about JPW over Croyle. I liked Croyle alot, he had a great arm. His running ability wasn't as bad as perscribed, but damn, did he get injured alot or what. Didn't JPW have the single season passing yard record at Alabama this year? I know the TD passes.

It's won us a national title before!!! :D

Steele was our best positions coach.. but out best defensive coach is still Mickey Andrews. :D Alabama does have a great looking defensive staff though, I'll give em that. I just hope we can get the situation worked out with NCSU.. come on Wolfpack, let us have The Chest back!

:lol Your right man I am slow. We are still ranked? Awesome. We will be a top 10 team again next year after the last 2 years.

Since 98 we have been to the SEC championship game every 3 years and the last time we went was 2004....

How the hell does OSU stay #2 after that brutalizing?

Isn't that traditionally what happens? I'm too lazy to look up past years.

It's surprising to me that Ginn got injured on his "celebration", because it didn't look like he did any celebrating at all.

Not to take anything away from that great Florida defense, but Ginn's loss was just as critical to OSU's self destruction. With Ginn on the field, Smith stays more composed and spreads the ball around to all of his receivers. With Ginn out, he was just firing it to Gonzales every time he dropped back to pass. I also saw several times where he was trying to Be Troy Smith and make a play instead of throwing the ball away. Very uncharacteristic this for him this season-especially when you consider the way he shredded Michigan's defense.

The other thing that frustrates me is the media constantly bringing up the 50-day layoff. Whenever a Big Ten team is in contention for a national championship, that's always going to be an issue with this bowl setup. The Big Ten is never going to change its season to have it end later. I'm disappointed that Tressel didn't have that team more ready to play, given those circumstances.

Monday's awful performance aside, it was still a great season for the Buckeyes:

-Undefeated regular season and outright Big Ten Championship.

-Troy Smith adds another Heisman Trophy to the cabinet, and easily cements himself as the best OSU quarterback ever (and to those of you saying all of a sudden he didn't deserve it, give me a break. He still had the best individual year of anyone out there, and in case you didn't notice, all three finalists lost.). I do agree that this probably torpedos his draft potential.

-Another Top Five Finish in the polls. And the Big Ten still finished with three teams in the Top 10, so I'm not so ready to proclaim them as worthless yet. I expect all of the teams to get better next year.

Ohio State's likely going to have rebuilding year next year, with the number of seniors leaving, and depending on what underclassmen leave, so I'm content (for now) to just enjoy the successes of this season, and see what the do in the offseason.

Thanks for saying it so I didn't have to :)

Last night was a great night for me for a variety of reasons:

1. SEC pride (congrats pixxxeeeelllll eyes)

2. Auburn won the Pontiac game-changing play (a victory is a victory)

3. Ohio State is now 0-8 against the SEC in bowl games

4. I finished in second place with a 24-8 record and the most correct picks in the bowl pick'em

5. I can now annoy everyone by saying that Auburn beat THE National Champion (get your Boise St nonsense out of here!!!)

On another note, no one has brought up the comparison, but last night really reminded me of Alabama's championship in 1992. The SEC completely destroyed a team that was supposedly unbeatable thanks to amazing defense and timely offense.

Boise St/Oklahoma was the best game of the bowl season, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ohio State and Notre Dame destroyed by the SEC in the last two bowls.

For the last time for a while, War Damn Eagle!

I thought of that game as well. I get all teary-eyed everytime I think of it though. I remember all of the crow that was served to all of the so called "experts". Alabama didn't stand a chance even though we had the #1 defense in the nation, the 'Canes were supposed to be too much for us.

Troy Smith reminded me of Gino Toretta last night.

What a shellacking!

Good to see the overrated Buckeyes and Irish get their asses handed to them in back to back weeks. :D

We were the only other team that seemed to figure out how to contain OSU (17-10 Illini loss), so it was refreshing to see a team with 10x the talent execute and finish the damn job. I cannot wait for next year to start.

I too can't wait for next year. First season of Bama football without Dad will be emotional, but to see what kind of team Saban puts out there. He'll probably run people off the team by being so strict, but the remaining players, plus new recruits....it's exciting.

Reminds me of '92 as well, and I was a Canes fan at the time. :( But this also reminded me of '96. Despite our ranking, people didn't really think we were that good, and not many gave us a legit chance against FSU. For one, it's our main rival, and also b/c they looked like a better team. But that SEC strength came up, and we beat the tar out of them that year to earn the national championship.

Next season, the expectations are of a repeat championship, nothing less. But even then, Lee Corso didn't have UF in his early Top 5. Bizarro. PEACE.

Didn't FSU beat Florida earlier that year? There was precedent in thinking FSU would win again.

Bush is gone too:

Louisville running back Michael Bush announced Tuesday he will enter the NFL draft instead of returning to the Cardinals.

Michael Bush, seen here before his 2006 season was cut short by a broken leg, won't return to Louisville for 2007.The news was first reported by ESPN.com's Pat Forde, who also reported that Louisville has agreed to terms with Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe on a five-year deal to replace Bobby Petrino.

One thing I still can't quite understand is why, why, WHY Tressel decided to get away from the power running game after they had just drove the ball down the field for a touchdown.

It's not that bizarre. You're going to have a first year quarterback (yes I know he played a little this year but that's different) who will only be a Sophomore.

Not to mention they are losing a lot on Defense.

Are you complaining about Lee Corso NOT picking you to repeat? Luck is already on your side.

Corso picked the Gates to win last night actually. I can't imagine a repeat.. Tebow starting, lots of underclassmen leaving early, lots of seniors graduating. I fully expect a bit of a down year for UF next season (comparatively speaking). I wouldn't be surprised if both the Noles and Gators finished up around 10-3.

They have one month to get their offense in order. And one month to recover from a brutal SEC schedule. For people to file this game away already is a huge mistake."

So how many of you are going to jump on the Leak bandwagon now?

You'd think they'd atleast wait to see which underclassmen are leaving first.

Plus their wrong about Michigan losing their entire starting linebacker corps because as far as I know Crable is still coming back.

Personally I'd rather start a few spots back. Its more fun to move up through the season and I'm really not sold on our D next year. Especially the secondary/

****ing Pete Carrol better not leave for Miami just so he can fail again in the NFL.

Pete Carroll needs to exorcise the NFL demons of his past. We support you a 100% in your endeavors out here in Westwood, Coach!

edit: lololololol Notre Dame

Notre Dame contacted UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker last month about joining the Irish coaching staff, Irish Illustrated has learned. The Bruins assistant has decided to stay put in Los Angeles.

"Bitch please, I saw what you people did to Ty Willingham."

He didn't return my calls when I called him to be our DC.

He's stated a couple of times he wants to be a head coach and I think he's banking on one of the following two things happening next season:

1. UCLA goes to a BCS bowl (pretend we had a competent head coach for a minute, it's perfectly possible with next year's schedule and roster). Karl Dorrell moves on to the NFL (something he's said he wants lololol) and lazy ass UCLA promotes Coach Walker instead of doing a real search for a replacement.

2. UCLA sucks again and Karl Dorrell gets fired. Lazy ass UCLA promotes Coach Walker instead of doing a real search for a replacement.

I mean be seriously he could either hang out with a bunch of hippies or come to the south where people actually care about football. I think he should listen to my offers

This is exactly why PC won't go back. He can't have the kind of fun in the NFL that he has coaching at USC. NFL players won't take him seriously when he's running around on kickoff drills or what have you.

Sorry Karakand Big Balls Pete is here to stay.

We don't have the spread out here except for Florida and I guess us to an extent but Meyer will be in the pros in 2-3 years and I could care less if our defense practice squad sucks.

Although he if runs the prevent like he did against ND the deals off, if I want a prevent defense I can stay with what I got.

We ran cover 2 on the last play (I know I said otherwise but I watched the game live on a shitty 5 inch black and white TV at work so sue me). Not quite as bad as prevent but still an awful call in that situation.

No offense to the ugly skanks that go to every other school but ASU has you beat hands down.... Where do you think all the B average California girls go? Oregon? Washington? nope... they come to ASU since those Cali schools are way to ****ing hard to get into and Oregon's/Washington's climate blows. Well over 300 days of sunshine also implies skimpy clothes, god I hope I get into ASU law after I get my undergrad this semester.

We have the same problem here. Here's this years squad:

2006squad02.jpg

I bet I could find 10 better looking girls if I spent 5 minutes on facebook. Hell I'd just hit one of the half dozen "I'm a model" groups and it'd be over.

From what I understand ASU usually has better looking girls than the rest of the Pac10 when it comes Playboy time. USC girls don't even turn out for it.

And that's probably the best looking bRuin cheerleader I've ever seen.

Dwayne Jarret hired an agent and is going pro. Sucks but its definately the best thing for him. Patrick Turner's gonna have to step it up next season.

I'm not a PT believer. Guy seems invisible half the time he's on the field and doesn't have much confidence. Even DJ didn't seem like that his freshman year. Young WR corps and no returning dominant RB. Could be a tough start on offense.
