I'm in Boston right now and was cheering on a friend running the marathon. Thankfully my group was far enough away, and my friend wasn't near finishing either so everyone I know is safe. It's still very scary around the city with so many hysterical and confused people.

Glad to hear you're safe. I have some friends who ran the marathon but weren't there when the bomb went off. Prayers and thoughts going out to everyone there.
 
That Steve Silva video, holy fuck. You could literally feel when regular life turns to panic, some heroic dudes jumping the fence to help out those injured imo

WASHINGTON (AP) — A law enforcement official says cellphone service has been shut down in the Boston area to prevent any potential remote detonations of explosives.

Authorities have not identified what caused the explosives that erupted at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.

The explosions have killed two people and injured at least 23 others.

This is grisly. My thoughts go out to anyone affected and I hope those in the area on GAF and in general are safe

Some of the images coming out of this are genuinely unsettling.

The Police Commissioner who went on air stated it was an explosion.

It is possible that it was both, that someone set the Library on fire in the hopes to get rescue workers in the explosion.
 
JFK Library is at UMass-Boston near the Boston Globe's HQ in South Boston/Dorchester area. Marathon finish is in Back Bay, which is about 4 miles northwest of the library.

Also, as a half-Bostonian, fuck whoever did this. I hope they catch them soon.
 
The Boston.com vid is among the most surreal/scary things I've watched in a long while. True props to those first responders
 
Just heard about this on the radio after driving back from hike. RIP to the innocent involved and wish a fast recovery for the injured.
Just makes you wonder what goes on in the mind of a human being that pulls shit like this. All over the world. Mentality is the worst enemy of mankind if one is not fully conscious.
 
I have heard, like others, that "multiple" undetonated devices have been discovered throughout the city. That is freakin' nuts! I wonder how many they have actually found.

The entire library thing is weird. At first it was being investigated, I heard it wasn't related and was an electrical fire. Then an hour or two later I get an AP alert with the police commissioner saying it WAS related and there was an explosion just the same there as well.

This is so awful.

The cameraman who filmed that street level view of the explosion is absolutely insane to have run towards the site of the explosion, considering the possibility of a secondary IED.
