This is what I have seen so far:

* White smoke indicates (usually) non plastic explosives, increasing the chance it's amateur or opportunistic.
* NO credible threats leading up to this, international or domestic
* Speculation about the timing ranges from, yes it's Tax Day in Boston, to "weird shit just happens in April with too few events (McVeigh, Waco) to be a pattern"

If it wasn't for the fact that we have many sworn international enemies who have stated that US civilians are their target, it would look at first blush, like domestic terrorism.
