I'm kinda shocked that actually made it set in the LTTP world. Why bother restricting yourself to that? NSMB was one thing but this is really gunning for nostalgia points.

Not a fan of the artstyle and gimmicky 3D stuff like bones flying up when blocked either.

Hyped by the thread title, cooled by the perspective. I understand why they did it but it still looks weird to me. Oh, well. I cannot afford (time/money) all the fucking announced games anyway.

I will play this game and expect another whole fucking dimension to explore when I clock the game, if it doesn't happen Nintendo, you will be dead to me.

Sequel to my favorite game of all time?

YES, PLEASE!

It's boring that they are, yet again, playing it so extremely safe. Was hoping for well maybe not a reboot but a shakeup, instead we get something looking perilously close to regression.

For the main Zelda installment on 3DS in 2013, I'm baffled that they didn't go for a full blown 3D-game (not top-down).

When was the last time we got a 2D, top down zelda again? How is that safe after years of full-blown 3D zeldas on both handhelds and consoles?

New Super mario Bros formula applied to Zelda. It was expected.

I don't like this art-style AT ALL. A hand drawn style would have been much more beautiful. in a sense, ALTTP is much more beautiful... Sounds effects are really great and the 3D looks cool.

I will buy it of course. And I'm sure I will love it. But it's another missed opportunity...

I think its a safe bet to think that in addition to this there is a full blown 3d Zelda in the works, for those who are complaining. After all Wind Waker HD is not the only Zelda coming to the WiiU.

I'm sort of disappointed that I abandoned Link to the Past as I got into the first room of Turtle Rock Dungeon.

My excitement for this is mild but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out. I would've preferred a slightly lower camera angle but I understand the 3D concern.

The trailer in the eshop looks much better than the stream. I'm expecting some great vertical dungeons from this, plus the paper mechanic looks really cool and well suited to core Zelda gameplay.

Still hoping for an FSA sequel however.

ALLTP had the first story heavy Zelda world, so there's definitely places they could take it, if they bothered to. Making it a sequel to LTTP is probably a deliberate choice, unlike Mario where the characters and world are just pulled from stock set pieces.

I think the art on the overworld looks really nice, and even if the dungeon isn't anything to write home about right now, I'm sure there will be a number of those in the game! I watched the video on the 3DS and I'm liking the feel of the vertical dungeon design so far. The 2D Link also looks like it could be used in really cool ways, and takes greater advantage of a 3D world. I'm looking forward to playing this later in the year!

I don't know if people remember the original reception ALTTP got, but when it was released it was criticized for the underwhelming graphics that did not take advantage of the SNES. I found the EGM review: http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=7826650&publicUserId=5739595

ED: "Everything except the graphics gets the best score possible. Unfortunately Nintendo let us down when it comes to the graphics, there is nothing spectacular here."

Martin: "The graphics aren't the best for the Super NES, but they are an improvement over the first 2 titles"

I guess my point is, ALTTP looking like ass didn't prevent it from being one of the best Zelda games, so I'm hyped for this one! :)

Ehhhh.
This is a new game, not a remake, I'd expect a MM remake too of course, but this game is what Miyamoto had hinted at for a few years.
And if we're finding things to complain about, all I'm going to say is the crows look shit and should have pointer beaks.

This is the best looking Zelda game in years.

Hopefully they don't ruin it with a helper character who talks too much and solves every puzzle for you.

Why are people so excited? Because it's a sequel to ALttP? I love a ALttP, but this looks WAAAAY more like Phantom Hourglass. I thought NeoGAF hated that game.

This NeoGaf guy keeps popping up. I'd like to see him/her post some day.

I've never played Phantom Hourglass, but this game doesn't look anything like it.

I'm sure it will be a very fun game, but i feel a little disappointed, especially coming from the Ocarina of Time 3D which was a gorgeous game.
Somehow this game looks very bland, i'm sure they could do much better.

I mean i was expecting something like this:

I didnt like Phantom Hourglass and I dont like the NSMB games, some people say it looks like that.

I loved Mario 3d Land though and I think new zelda looks exactly like Mario 3d Land, AND its top down. those 2 reasons are enough for me to love it already.

it looks graphically different from an art standpoint, and radically different from a gameplay perspective

The lower the point of view, the less straight-lines you get and platforms/objects actually start to obstruct parts of the scenery/levels.
A higher camera is the easiest way to solve the issue of bringing classic 2D Zelda in 3D.

yea for sure. they could do it but it'd require lots of work. the game would have to be designed with that in mind.

So okay, where does this fit the timeline? I mean, unofficially AST happens after ALttP and then the Oracle games, then Link's Awakening. So this happens somewhere in all of that and before LoZ and AoL?

WHO CARES SO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. BEST LINK IS BACK.

Looks like we dodged a bullet!

Good lord, all this game has done is make me wish that I finally sit down and finish that link to the past save game that i've had on my gba cart for years now. problem is that i wouldn't know where to go from there, it's been that long.

New game son. Fresh start. Drink it in.

And buy it for virtual console so you can play on a TV.

Yes it would be completely feasible to make an entire game look like that. And it's completely in keeping with the game's art style?

Huh? Isn't that what I'm doing in this thread? Heheh!

It looks like an evolution of PH/ST. Even the way Link attacks slower, and the physics of how the enemy flies back is identical to the DS games.

EDIT: UGH! Hang on. The links are broken. I promise they look really similar, though! Haha
